Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what is the difference between this and the rde videomic pro

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro is designed as a compact camera mountable solution. Generally used with DSLR or smaller camcorders. Both offer great sound quality, however since directionality of the pickup is related to the length of the mic tube, the NTG-2 offers a more narrow pickup and more effective at rejecting surrounding ambience.

Q: 2. Does it comes with some kind of box or something for the hole Kit?

A: No, everything is separate. So you need to get a case or a bag if you want to have eveything neatly stored.

Q: 3. Where is the XLR cable?

A: XLR cables are a required but not included accessory for this microphone. We list several cabling options under the ACCESSORIES tab for this microphone.

Q: 4. Will this work well for picking up actors' lines for a live theatre event?

A: The Rode NTG2 Shotgun Microphone is highly directional, meaning it will pick up what it is pointed at in a range of 2-3 feet, but not much else. Unless the actors are stationary or there is an operator that will move this mic along with the actors as they move, I would not recommend using the NTG2 for this purpose.

Q: 5. Is this a stereo mic?

A: The NTG-2 is a mono microphone.

Q: 6. How long does a single AA battery last in the mic?

A: While there isn't a published run time for AA, as they vary too much and also depend on the chemistry of the battery, on average you can expect around 50 hours (+/-)

Q: 7. How long is the mic?

A: The mic is 11 inches

Q: 8. Does this work well with video booths? Like not picking up a lot of the DJ music and crowd talking? I just want to make sure the video recorded you can hear the people talking and making the video.

A: that's kind of a tough question. I love my NTg2 mic, it works much better than I thought using a windscreen and as well as being directional to block out some noise. If you are in a noisy environment why not double up on this along with a lab mic for best results?

Q: 9. will this work well as a boom mic or the Rode NTG 2 for short films. I use zoom h5 or at times the h1.

A: yeah, totally, We use it like a boom mic in several works

Q: 10. How do I know if the mic is on?

A: As soon as you put the battery in then it's turned on. You'll need to monitor it some how, either with headphones or some kind of battery level display. I always take the battery out after i'm done using the mic for a day because if not it will just drain the battery dead in storage because it's always on. What I do is I hook the mic up to my zoom H1. You just need a small XLR to 1/8th input and then you're able to monitor the levels with headphones attached to the zoom H1. I hope this helps.

[Black] Great fit! I use the cable for a wired microphone for my video camera.

[Black] Well built, sturdy cables for stage use. There are far more expensive cables meant for studio use that are simply not meant for the rigors of live bands on stage. These cables will hold up!

[Black] This cable is excellent! I use it mostly from going from a mixer to a cabled boom, and this does an excellent job. It holds up in exteriors, interiors, hot weather (haven't tested cold weather, but I'm sure it'll be fine). I have other Kopul cables that hold the coils a bit too much, but this cable is pliable even when its been coiled for days on end in a box. 10/10 worth the money.

[Black] I have used mogami cables for my lab since the 2000s. I have never had a problem with any piece from mogami. I have moved my studio several times over the years and these stand the test of time. They have handled anything I have thrown at them so far. Price worth the quality.
