Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the head come with a Pan Handle stick?

A: The Tripod head does come with a pan handle.

Q: 2. does the side mount system in these heads work directly with arri style long dove plates? or will I have to screw it onto the head's proprietary plate?

A: Miller has their own proprietary quick release plate system. You will need to add a dovetail if you intend to use this tripod with Arri standard dovetail mounts.

Q: 3. Does a standard manfrotto plate fit in this head?

A: We're afraid not. This tripod has its own quick release plate system, it is not compatible with Manfrotto plates.

Q: 4. Is the 75mm bowl proprietary to Miller tripods? Will this head fit any brand of tripod with a 75mm bowl? For example, experience taught me Sachtler bowls are proprietary to the tripods.

A: Yes.

Q: 5. Does anyone have any experience using this head with lighter cameras like a GH5 or Blackmagic Pocket Cam? How does the counterblance work at the lower end of it's settings?

A: With 16 selectable counter balance positions ( including 0 ) as well as 4 drag settings ( including 0 ) , running light weight cameras such as the GH5 or Pocket Cinema Camera do well.

Q: 6. If I would would buy Miller legs with 100mm fitting to go with this head, do I also need to buy a 100mm ball leveler seperately to lock it on the legs or does it come with this CX10 head? If so which one should I buy from B&H? I could not find it...

A: Every 75mm or higher fluid head comes with a ball clamp.

Q: 7. Is the 3rd step of drag on the CX6 similar to the 5th step on the CX8 or is it less? Is the difference just fewer steps in-between or is it less drag overall?

A: Comparisons between the drag settings is not something listed by Miller on any head. The key in this case is that the CX8 offers more adjust-ability with 5 steps over 3 steps on the CX6. However we are not aware of a direct comparison between the steps.

Q: 8. Is the plate compatible with Arca Swiss? Or is it still Miller's original plate? I have everything with arca swiss...

A: The Miller Versa CXV8 Fluid Head with Pan Handle does not have a Arca Swiss compatibility. You can mount a Arca Swiss clamp to the Miller quick release plate.

Q: 9. What is the height of the head to the flat mount (without the ball)? I'm looking to place this on a slider and travel jib.

A: The non-removable ball integrates a flat base. The dimension from the top to bottom is 6.0" / 153mm. https://www.millertripods.com/us/mwdownloads/download/link/id/6/

Q: 10. What is the temperature rating of this head?

A: This head has a Temperature Range between -40° to +149°F.

[Yes] Have been using it since October of 2021, and I am very happy with it. The adjustments took a little getting used to, there is a learning curve. Needed to practice to get the hang of it (by that I mean ability to adjust during a shoot without thinking).

The CS6 is more than adequate for my light set up (Red Komodo or R5 with a Canon 100-400 or 100-500 lens). Buttery smooth pans and tilts. Feels good in my hands, a pleasure to use. Should be good for much heavier setups but be careful to make sure you have the right model for your needs.

[Yes] Ive been using this head for two months and dont have any complaints. This is a great head that has all I need for medium heavy weight cameras like Sony FS7. And Ive been using it with Arri Amira comfortably as well.

[Yes] As my cameras got bigger, I had to upgrade my fluid head from really old Manfrotto. I first tried the Miller Air fluid head, but found it did not have the range or resolution for counterbalance adjustment I was looking for. The CX10 is substantially more expensive, but the 16-steps of counterbalance and 5 steps of drag adjustment are just perfect for me. The counterbalance setup is simple: set drag to zero, slide the camera-plate forward/backward to locate the center of mass, then increase the counterbalance to get the best balance over the range planned for the shot. Finally bring-up the drag to get the feel you want.

Some reviews of the CX series complain they can not get perfect balance, and experience kick-back and drift at the tails of tilts or pans (especially when using long lenses where the effect is amplified). But I have found that a combination of proper balance setting, higher drag, and user technique can give me perfect starts and stops with zero kick-back. One of the keys is to use a high drag setting and a firm had to initiate the tilt/pan. Then ease-up to the stopping point, and just hold briefly for a second before releasing the handle. This works perfectly for me every time. And by the way, poor tripod torsional stiffness can make even a perfect fluid head appear to have pan-axis kickback, but in reality it is the tripod legs kicking-back, not the head (mount this on the 26 pound Kessler K-pod tripod, and you will see how perfectly it works with an infinitely-stiff tripod). For typical shooting situations, I mount this on a Manfrotto 536 and it is a great combination.

This head is tremendously sturdy and solid - really well-made with silky-smooth bearings and absolutely zero play in any axis. I also love the size, grip and feel of the pan bar (handle) - it is big and beefy, feels great in the hand. Now that I have it, I wish I had bought a nice fluid head years ago! Miller has done a great job on this one!

[Incremental] Purchased in Feb 2022 with the Solo Q 100mm sticks. My previous tripod was a Vinten 5LF. I loved the Vinten, but with lighter cameras I no longer needed a head that could hold 40 lbs or more. The CX10 holds from 0 to 26 pounds and the 16 steps of counter balance and 5 levels of friction in both directions make for the perfect tool. I use both a Canon cinema camera and a Canon ENG camera on this tripod. No matter which camera or lens, I get remarkably smooth moves. And the CX10 / SoloQ is very light, about 10 pounds. My old Vinten was 16 to 18 pounds at least. The Carbon fiber legs are stiff and rigid. A wonderful purchase.

[Fluid Head] Buttery smooth pans and tilts. Easy to counter balance. Easy to mount and unmount your camera.

[Yes] I purchased the Miller CX10 Fluid Head specifically for use with a Sony A7iii and Sony 200-600 G zoom lens in a rig weighing about 13 pounds. I use this setup as a moving camera for closeups in concerts. It's important to have smooth action with (near) perfect balance. The CX10 meets all of my need and expectations. It is also compact, rugged, and very easy to adjust. It is a true fluid head, so adjusting the drag is easy, since you aren't working against spring tension found in friction heads. The counterbalance is also easy to adjust, without undue resistance. I can point it to any position and let go of the handle without sag and very little springback. Hold for just a second or two, and the springback disappears.

[Yes] I ordered this head to use on my Gitzo series 5 tripod along with the gitzo 100mm half bowl. Quality is fantastic, motion is smooth and fluid and is extremely durable. Only issue, the stud that mounts to the ball clamp is too short and needed to be longer to use on the Gitzo tripod. Called Miller US and had them send me a longer one, without issue.

[Yes] Heavy, sleek and quality head throughout. At maximum, Im sporting about an 18lb camera package, so Im well below the load rating. But the head feels really solidly built, pans are smooth with no kickback at the tails, tilt range is muy bueno. The counterbalance setup takes a little getting used to, but does what its supposed to do very well. Curious to see how well the CB system will hold up over time, as the click-in settings may wear down the control knob over the years. Its a tiny thing, but I like the thoughtful design touch of having a home for spare mount screws. For anyone concerned about only 3 steps of drag settings, dont be. You get used to the setting range almost immediately, and for the most part all the hoopla about 5+ steps is pure nonsense. All in all, pretty solid selection for my particular needs.

[Yes] This replaced a well know brand fluid head and the difference was night and day. The counter balance is smooth, super easy to use, and convenient top plate loading.

I have no disappointment and am considering the accessory plate.

[Incremental] This head is fantastic! It is replacing a 25 year old Vinten Vision 5. While I have loved the Vinten, the infinite adjustable friction has worn out. I love the gears in this one and the 16 step counter balance. Also the Vinten heads only have a range for which they can be counter balanced, like 7 pounds to 14 pounds. This guy can go all the way from zero to 26.4 pounds. That means I can use a heavy camera or a DSLR and still balance the weight. Excellent design!
