Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are there any compatible pan handles with clamps included? I'm looking to add an extra pan handle.

A: The correct handle for the Miller CX8 would be Miller Telescopic Pan Handle for ArrowX Heads BH #MI696 • MFR #696 https://bhpho.to/3DcqxEf ( A clamp is included)

Q: 2. Is the sliding plate interchangeable with the AirAV model?

A: No, the AirV fluid head (#1044) uses the “Versa” camera plate (#1201) The AIR fluid head (#1042) uses the standard camera plate(#1205) However, you could add a receiver onto the AIR that would allow you to use the AirV Versa plate on the AIR Head. Manfrotto 577 Rapid Connect Adapter with Sliding Mounting Plate (501PL) BH #MA577

Q: 3. Does a standard manfrotto plate fit in this head?

A: We're afraid not. This tripod has its own quick release plate system, it is not compatible with Manfrotto plates.

Q: 4. Does anyone have any experience using this head with lighter cameras like a GH5 or Blackmagic Pocket Cam? How does the counterblance work at the lower end of it's settings?

A: With 16 selectable counter balance positions ( including 0 ) as well as 4 drag settings ( including 0 ) , running light weight cameras such as the GH5 or Pocket Cinema Camera do well.

Q: 5. I have some old Bogen/Manffroto telescopic pan arms with rosette clamps. will these fit on the CX series head rosettes? they look similar but my CX6 tripod system hasn't arrived yet so I can't try it...

A: We cant know for certain without knowing the exact model tripod arm however it is usually safe to assume that it will not work. There is no universal standard rosette size/pattern for tripod arms and even Manfrotto/Bogen have a few variations of their rosette arm.

Q: 6. Does the head come with a Pan Handle stick?

A: The Tripod head does come with a pan handle.

Q: 7. How do you adjust the height of the pedestal?

A: The Miller Miller System Arrowx 5 includes a pump. Once the pedestal has been filled with air and balanced out properly, Simply unlock the column and use the top ring/wheel (where head is mounted) to lift it up and down.

Q: 8. Is the 3rd step of drag on the CX6 similar to the 5th step on the CX8 or is it less? Is the difference just fewer steps in-between or is it less drag overall?

A: Comparisons between the drag settings is not something listed by Miller on any head. The key in this case is that the CX8 offers more adjust-ability with 5 steps over 3 steps on the CX6. However we are not aware of a direct comparison between the steps.

Q: 9. Will this 100mm head fit on a Vinten tripod with 100mm bowl?

A: The Miller CX10 Fluid Head (B&H# MI1096) will fit in tripods, hi-hats, and bowl adapters conforming to the 100mm bowl standard. Please note that the particulars of inter-brand fit can vary, however, so we cannot promise that every user will be satisfied with every combination. However, we do offer 30 days to return this item (with all packaging items and packing materials, and in the same shape it was received) if it does not meet your needs.

Q: 10. Does this head come with a pan bar, or is it optional?

A: It comes with a pan handle. You can however get an extra one if you wish. Miller 681 Pan Bar Handle for Select Video Heads B&H # MI681.

[Black] Buttery smooth pans and tilts. Easy to counter balance. Easy to mount and unmount your camera.

[Black] I am mainly interested in birds photography, my recent set up is Sony A9, 2x teleconverter and sone 400mm f2.8, the head supports the setup well and provides good fluid motion, for both photography and video purposes, I also own an miller DS20 which is too “hard” for the Sony set up, but the ds20 is great for Nikon DSLR with the 800nn f5.6vr

The major drawback of miller is the plate design, different to the rest of the world, I am asking my local craftsman to handmade some plates with supporting skeleton for my systems

[Black] Have been using it since October of 2021, and I am very happy with it. The adjustments took a little getting used to, there is a learning curve. Needed to practice to get the hang of it (by that I mean ability to adjust during a shoot without thinking).

The CS6 is more than adequate for my light set up (Red Komodo or R5 with a Canon 100-400 or 100-500 lens). Buttery smooth pans and tilts. Feels good in my hands, a pleasure to use. Should be good for much heavier setups but be careful to make sure you have the right model for your needs.

[Black] great tripod and head for light to hefty dslr frankenrigs and very smooth and adjustable pan and tilt drag. pretty good counterbalance.
specially if you get the long slide plate and use a long dove plate on it when using long and heavy lenses with matte boxes, etc.
wish there was hook under the head to stabilize with weight!!

[Black] Been using Manfrotto heads for far too long. I have always known that I needed to upgrade from my reliance on Manfrotto. I am glad did! This head from Miller is a night and day difference for me. So much better in every way. Lighted bubble head, counter balance, and extremely smooth drag and pan. It's so good!

[Black] Heavy, sleek and quality head throughout. At maximum, Im sporting about an 18lb camera package, so Im well below the load rating. But the head feels really solidly built, pans are smooth with no kickback at the tails, tilt range is muy bueno. The counterbalance setup takes a little getting used to, but does what its supposed to do very well. Curious to see how well the CB system will hold up over time, as the click-in settings may wear down the control knob over the years. Its a tiny thing, but I like the thoughtful design touch of having a home for spare mount screws. For anyone concerned about only 3 steps of drag settings, dont be. You get used to the setting range almost immediately, and for the most part all the hoopla about 5+ steps is pure nonsense. All in all, pretty solid selection for my particular needs.

[Black] This head is fantastic! It is replacing a 25 year old Vinten Vision 5. While I have loved the Vinten, the infinite adjustable friction has worn out. I love the gears in this one and the 16 step counter balance. Also the Vinten heads only have a range for which they can be counter balanced, like 7 pounds to 14 pounds. This guy can go all the way from zero to 26.4 pounds. That means I can use a heavy camera or a DSLR and still balance the weight. Excellent design!

[Black] This is the best fluid head I've used for my GH5S. Counterbalance set to 1 is just right for a minimal body/lens/mic setup and setting 2 is perfect for a more elaborate setup. Been a longtime fan of Miller quality and to my knowledge they are one of the few that hasn't been sold to a large corporation that are known to cut corners to reduce costs, you simply can't find this quality elsewhere at this price point. The only thing missing is drag controls but the drag is set to a level I'm comfortable with, and having an illuminated bubble level would have been nice. I'll take the tradeoff of overall build quality over having a bunch of bells and whistles any day. Even though this was a special order item it shipped very quickly from the Miller branch in New Jersey. They are also very easy to get on the phone with if service or parts are ever needed.
