Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this microphone connect withOUT an adapter to my D610 or my D500?

A: This mic can connect directly to any camera with a 3.5mm external mic input, such as the Nikon D610 or the Nikon D500.

Q: 2. what is the main difference between ECM-MS2 and ECM-VG1?

A: The ECM-MS2 has Stereo (M-S) and Mono capabilities, and the ECM-VG is Mono only. The ECM-MS2 is much shorter in length ( 5.5"), making it more suitable for placing on a smaller camera and the ECM-VG is over 8" in length. Both of these microphones require phantom power (40-52 V DC).

Q: 3. Some of the original mini cables that came from Rode with their NT4 mikes had 12 dB pads built into the XLR5 connector. Does this cable have such pads in it? Or is it just straight wire from XLR to mini? I'm looking for one that doesn't have the resistive pads.

A: I bought this cable as a back-up for the one provided with my Audio-Technica stereo mic, and it's much less efficient, so I suspect that there is an unseen pad in the XLR, or the cable is simply more resistive. I'm returning it -- the signal into my Marantz digital recorder is too low.

Q: 4. Is the Sony ECM-MS2 microphone compatible with the Sony HXR-NX100?

A: Yes the Sony ECM-MS2 microphone is compatible with the Sony HXR-NX100 camcorder.

Q: 5. I recently purchased the SONY PXW-X70 PROFESSIONAL XDCAM CAMCORDER. It comes with an XLR handle with microphone holder, but no mic. Is this the right one to pair with it? Are there other (better) options? I want to outfit the camera right. Thanks.

A: I purchased this microphone over a year ago for my PD150; and I've been very happy with it's performance and ease of use.

Q: 6. How does this mic get power from the camera? Must it be attached to the camera's hot shoe to work? Or, does the power come to it thru its cable connector? Will it work if attached to B&H# VECB4800?

A: It gets its power from the Mic jack. It can be used off camera like the Shoe V-Bracket ,Vello CB-4800 Triple Shoe V-Bracket (6.5 Wide)B&H # VECB4800 Mfr # CB-4800http://bhpho.to/1jnwCuW

Q: 7. Is this microphone works with Sony pxw-fs5m2

A: Yes. This microphone will let you record stereo audio into the camera.

Q: 8. Confused about correct MS config: The manual says white plug is channel 1 and red plug channel 2. But Sony product photos with camcorder show other way around. Which one is correct? I do not get proper stereo image when decoding mid side.

A: The XLR connectors for the Sony ECM-MS2 Stereo Electret Condenser Microphone are marked in different colors to indicate left and right. The red connector is for the right channel and the white connector is for the left channel. Channel 1 on the camera is typically for the left and channel 2 on the camera is typically for the right.

Q: 9. Is this mic compatible with the Sony HXR-NX3/1?

A: Yes it is. The camera will provide the phantom power that the mic requires. You might want to get these o-rings (SAROCS) to keep it in place if you mount it on the camera's mount.

Q: 10. Is this what I need to connect my Azden SGM 1X condenser mic to my sony HDR-CX900 camera 3.5 mm mic input?

A: This is a specialty cable designed for a 5 pin stereo XLR connection. Use this: Kopul LMT100 - Low to High Impedance Matching Transformer (1.5') B&H # KOLMT100

[Phantom Power] Used for field/outside recording, this is a nice stereo microhpone for a middle cost. Phantom 24V is very useful.

[30 to 48 V] I current own a total of seven other microphones, which ranged in price from about $100 to $400.00. They include the Rode NT3, Sennheiser MKE with Cardioid and Omni capsules, Rode Stereo Video Mic, Shure SM57 & 58, Audio Technica 822, ect. The Rode NT4 is a dramatically better sounding mic than all of then in comparable situations. The quality of my live environment recordings has greatly improved since I started using this mic. From loud rock bands to mellow string quartets, this mic excels. Spend a little more, get a lot more. The Rode NT4 is a great mic, perhaps even a steal at the current price. Buy it now!

[Mono / Stereo] I got the NT4 to use in conjunction with my Sony Z7U. I've been recording live bands for the past 3 years and my current setup is the Sony, Nikon D7000, and a Zoom H4N. I wasn't getting great sound with the shotgun mic on the Sony because its a directional mic and it's better for voice only. I was relying on my H4n for all the live audio which sounds great but I needed another mic as a backup. Instead of purchasing another H4N I decided for look into better XLR mics for my Sony and came across the NT4. I'll probably be using the NT4 and my primary audio source over the H4N mainly because of how clear and precise the audio sounds! Amazing audio quality and i'm totally happy with my purchase. Plus it comes with a hard-case so I don't have to worry about it getting tossed around in my camera bag.

[30 to 48 V] I got this to record music and theater performances, and its the perfect tool for the job.

The sound quality is great, and It gives an outstanding stereo separation.  It really makes my recordings sound like I know what I am doing.

It pairs perfectly with my Zoom F4 recorder, which combines the left and right feeds into a single stereo track.  And as a bonus, it lets me record a separate stereo track at a different level.  Thats perfect for live performances where I cant be at the recorder to set levels; I set a loud level and a quiet level, and I always have one that is right.

[Phantom Power] This is a beautiful-sounding microphone, and it's provided fabulous results even when using it for ADR and VO on-the-fly. It has a very low noisefloor and captures well-articulated sound. The real bonus is the ability to use a 9V for phantom instead of P48 - works great when using with mobile recorders that don't have enough juice for long-duration and reliable P48. In Dead air roomtone tests, differences between internal 9V versus P48 were quite negligible except for some slightly better articulation of sub 100Hz frequencies. The real plus to this microphone is that although it has a wide cardiod pattern because of the twin capsules, its perceived polar pattern and off-axis rejection are very tight with a long throw, nearly matched to that of a hypercardiod shotgun mic. One can really drill down on what they want to record with this and not pick up excess ambient noise. A fantastic mic for sound effects and recording, and even intimate foley recording in close proximity. It would be great if it had an 80Hz High Pass and 10dB Pad switch, but that's only a minor letdown amidst the fantastic microphone that it is. The 10 Year Warranty is fantastic, a great piece of mind to have.

[Mono / Stereo] WOW! I'm using a Sony PCM-D100 stereo field recorder which has it all excepting dedicated balance XLR inputs. It does however have a 3.5mm PCR input and after a lot of research and aided by the really knowledgeable audio gurus at B & H, was able to determine that the Rode NT4 would prove to be an excellent match and after trying it, am astounded by the recordings I am experiencing!

[Black] Great addition to my BMPCC4K, Sound Devices 702, and RDE NTG3 gear. I needed a mic to capture some ambient sound, and live music. This mic impressed me with both. Works great also for dialogue when you need it fast. I had no problem mounting it on my camera (mounted on a stationary tripod). And I was ok moving around with it as well. Running and gunning is not impossible but keep in mind that may be somewhat difficult.

[Side Address] Love this microphone with my acoustic guitar. It sounds wonderful. It's a hearty microphone, a bit bigger than I imagined. I bought the optional fuzzy windscreen too. It takes a 9 volt battery or you can use phantom power from your board or recording device.

[Phantom Power] This microphone is more professional than i am. The first use, I can hear noticeable better clarity then the Azden mic I have been using. Don't get me wrong, for the money the Azden mic is great, and I still use it. I record and video amateur live music videos with a Zoom F4 and with this mic I am excited about the quality of sound I should be able to obtain with this equipment.
