This matched pair of DC-96C mics from Milab offers musicians and engineers two workhorse microphones for studio vocals and instruments, each with a rubber-fitted large-diaphragm condenser element based on the legendary Milab 2900 rectangular capsule. The original DC-96 was released in the late 1960s. After an update, it was replaced by the DC-96B in 1983, which would become one of the most iconic Milab models. The DC-96C is the latest iteration, and now features transformerless circuitry for outstanding clarity and transparency while retaining the low-end warmth that made the DC-96B so sought after.

A side-address microphone, the DC-96C offers a full frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and is suitable for a wide range of vocal and instrumental duties, including leads and backgrounds, acoustic guitar, piano, hi-hats, overheads, guitar amps, and more. The cardioid pickup pattern focuses audio capture in front of the mic, helping to reduce bleed from other instruments and performers. Engage the -12 dB pad and the mic can handle loud sources up to 144 dB. This set's matched pair of mics allows for a wide variety of stereo recording configurations including X/Y, A/B, and ORTF setups.

The DC-96C features a gold-plated XLR connector and requires 48V phantom power for operation. This set includes two slip-on foam windscreens to reduce wind, breath, and plosive noises. Two microphone clips and an SKB 3i case for secure storage and transport are also supplied.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How well would these work on a boom mount in a home studio, plugged directly into a Blackmagic Pocket 4K?

A: You could only plug 1 of these mics directly into the BMPC camera since it only has 1 xlr connection providing phantom power. You would also need an adapter cable to make that connection, BH #CACTF3MT3220. As long as the mic is within 3' of the person speaking, these would work fine.

Q: 2. Can these take batteries, or is it phantom power only?

A: These small diaphragm condenser microphones require +48 volt phantom power, and do not have a battery power option.

Q: 3. How long are the XLR cables?

A: The ECM-MS2 from Sony features a permanently attached 15 cable.

Q: 4. What dead cat will fit the M3? I have the Rode WS3 foam one already, looking for something to use outside.

A: The RODE M3 Versatile End-Address Condenser Microphone (BH # ROM3) will work with the WindTech Fur Fitted Microphone Windshield (B&H # WIMM600). The Mic-Muff on average provides up to 20db of wind-noise reduction in a 20 mph wind, while producing no negative effect on frequency response. Typically, this windshield can be fitted directly over the foam windscreen that came with your microphone or video camera, but some models may require placement over the microphone alone.

Q: 5. I recently purchased the SONY PXW-X70 PROFESSIONAL XDCAM CAMCORDER. It comes with an XLR handle with microphone holder, but no mic. Is this the right one to pair with it? Are there other (better) options? I want to outfit the camera right. Thanks.

A: I purchased this microphone over a year ago for my PD150; and I've been very happy with it's performance and ease of use.

Q: 6. Is this mic compatible with the Sony HXR-NX3/1?

A: Yes it is. The camera will provide the phantom power that the mic requires. You might want to get these o-rings (SAROCS) to keep it in place if you mount it on the camera's mount.

Q: 7. Does this come with a microphone cable?

A: it comes with a female xlr- male 1/4 . So basically the male 1/4 needs to go into the mixer end.

Q: 8. I recently purchased the SONY PXW-X70 PROFESSIONAL XDCAM CAMCORDER. It comes with an XLR handle with microphone holder, but no mic. Is this the right one to pair with it? Are there other (better) options? I want to outfit the camera right. Thanks. I am referring to the Sony ECM-MS2 Stereo Electret Condenser Microphone BTW.

A: The correct mic for your PXW-X70 would depend on your application. The ECM-MS2 is a stereo mic. It is compatible with your camera, and great for recording audio such as general ambience, music and situations where left/right positional information is required. For interview and speech recording in front of the camera many prefer a mono shotgun mic such as the Rode NTG-1 due to its tighter pickup pattern and minimal off axis pickup. a href= http://bhpho.to/1hg4l94 target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1hg4l94/a

Q: 9. Is it working well (no noises on signal) with 48v phantom power? I need a simple talkback mic to a unit with 48v phantom power which is on while recording with a condenser mic.

A: It doesn't work with phantom power. It takes a 9v battery in the base and needs the battery in order to operate. There is an audible click/pop when the switch is pushed (the volume of which is moderate - neither particularly loud or soft).

Q: 10. Confused about correct MS config: The manual says white plug is channel 1 and red plug channel 2. But Sony product photos with camcorder show other way around. Which one is correct? I do not get proper stereo image when decoding mid side.

A: The XLR connectors for the Sony ECM-MS2 Stereo Electret Condenser Microphone are marked in different colors to indicate left and right. The red connector is for the right channel and the white connector is for the left channel. Channel 1 on the camera is typically for the left and channel 2 on the camera is typically for the right.

[Cardioid] These Rode M5 compact microphones are way more than awesome!! They are not what I expected but they were much much more. I just received them last week and have already used them on a filming job of a choir. When I did a run thru very first time with the choir last Thursday I had my headphones on just making the necessary audio adjustments and my other videographer on camera #2 looked at me from across the room where he was running his camera and said Looks like you are happy about something!! I bet it's those new Rode mics!! Never seen you with a smile like that in a long time!!! I just gave him a thumbs up and was totally way overwhelmed. The sound is what I would expect from a $2,000 plus microphone. Anyway, this is a MUST BUY and you probably better buy quickly from B&H because the pricing on this won't stay this cheap for long.

[Black] Small , light weight as well as affordable.
But the best part of my purchase was the patient sales fellow who took me item by item through my list of equipment - adding his thoughts and suggestions. He was exactly what I failed to get at a competitor. Thanks so much for making it both an easy and educational experience.

[Phantom Power] With the pair of microphones mounted on the stereo bar I was able to easily capture a conversation of two documentary subjects, avoiding the hassle of panning a single shotgun mic or fussing with lav mics. The sound quality in the recording was lovely, and the convenience of mounting the mics next to each other and directed toward the subjects was phenomenal. This setup opens up many possibilities at a modest price. My first real-world use case was a resounding success.
