Drawing from the well-regarded design of the sE4400 multipattern condenser microphone, the sE4100 offers the same performance with a few improvements and a fixed cardioid pattern.

  • Twin gold-sputtered 1" mylar diaphragms offer excellent results on a wide array of sound sources
  • True condenser technology with high-precision parts for excellent sound quality
  • Improved self noise, from 13 dBA on the sE4400 to only 9 dBA on the sE4100
  • Enhanced dynamic range over the sE4400 (128 instead of 124 dB)
  • Each capsule is handcrafted and individually tuned in sE Electronics' own factory

Swapping out the multipattern design of the sE4400 for the cardioid capture of the sE4100 offers improved off-axis rejection and a more affordable mic without sacrificing sound quality.

  • Minimizes signal bleed from unwanted sources, especially helpful in untreated spaces
  • Ensures high gain before feedback across the whole frequency range
  • Enhances directivity from the source by preventing coloration from indirect reflections and reverb

The sE4100 sports the same pad with metal switches found on the sE4400, providing:

  • An extended dynamic range, up to 148 dB
  • Greater range of applications due to wider SPL resistance
  • Support for close miking of loud sources such as electric guitars, brass instruments, and kick drums

The improved high-pass filter on the sE4100 changes values to 80 and 160 Hz for improved versatility. With the high-pass filter, you can eliminate low-frequency rumble or footfall noise. It also helps compensate for excessive bass when using close-miking techniques.

  • Road worthy die-cast housing and solid spring-steel grille for a robust build
  • Efficient rejection of electromagnetic interference and noise
  • Premium finish ensures an eye-catching look for many years of regular use
  • Handmade by sE Electronics engineers
  • Rigorously tested and tuned in house for excellent quality control

[Phantom Power] This is a fantastic bundle over-all, with a few nitpicks. First, the good stuff-The microphone itself is fantastic. It sounds great (I am using this for voice-over work as well as singing in my home studio), and the build quality is very impressive (solid brass body). I have used microphones that cost as much as $3,000 and while this mic doesn't sound like that, it sounds VERY CLOSE for a heck of a lot less money. The reflection filter works as advertised, and it significantly reduced the "room tone" in my recordings (I am tracking in an apartment). The shock mount and pop filter are first rate (again, great VALUE). The only things that I didn't like are that the cable is basically a throw-away or a spare because it seems like a generic cable that they just threw in (that's OK, I have good cables already). Also, the actual switches on the mic seem a little cheap. This is not that big of a deal, since once you set them, you don't really need to change them, but I thought it was worth noting. Over-all, I am VERY happy with the bundle and it arrived quickly and well packaged (thanks B&H!).

[Black] I live in a tiny home and needed something to help record my baritone voice for an audio book project. The microphone is smooth and clear. I like the 80hz low cut option for my voice. The build quality on everything is good, although, the shock mount feels like the cheapest part. Nice bundle for the price

[Phantom Power] All jokes aside (which is a very true and accurate statement), this microphone really did put a smile on my face. It didn't need EQ or compression for it to accurately portray the sounds I put in front of it. I bought a pair of these and set one up in front of my guitar and one for my vocal and played a live song that I tracked into pro tools. I couldn't have been happier with the results. Great product and an even better one for the price!

[Black] These live in my studio as drum overheads, exclusively. I had recently purchased the multi-pattern version but returned them when these came out a week later. At a fourth of the cost of Coles, these are the way to go if you on a budget or just getting started. Recording drums gets expensive quick!

[Mono] The quality of this large diaphragm mic's sound is sensitive, crisp, and clear. The response is well balanced. But the feature that stands out is the ability to select a pickup pattern. We use these in live bluegrass band shows, in the old '30s style where we all crowd around a single mic stand. The wide cardioid pattern is perfect for this. I also use several of these for recording. Versatile, well worth the money.

[-10 / -20 dB] When I received these mics I had a slightly mixed first impression. The case was nice but the slots for the mics left them very slightly loose. The foam windscreens fit the mics perfect and are more uniform than many I've seen. The fit and finish of the spreader bar is less than stellar and the mic clips are pretty basic. The fit and finish of the mics themselves is excellent.

After just a bit of testing I was grinning and couldn't be happier with my purchase. The sound is silky smooth and very natural. I prefer a neutral sound from a mic, and these deliver. I haven't done a ton of testing yet, but from my initial testing I'm extremely pleased with the sound. What sound profile you prefer is fairly subjective, but I think these are going to be great for me.

The main thing that impressed me with these mics is the low noise floor. I tested these along side a Rode NT5. Based on the specs I hoped the noise floor would be better, but it's night and day. My NT5 has a noise floor that isn't terrible, but it never impressed me. Maybe I just got a poor sample. Either way, after making test recordings I listened first to the NT5. When I switched to the sE8 my eyes went wide because it was not a subtle difference. The sE8 has a far lower noise floor.

They are a bit heavier, if that's an issue for you.

With the adjustable pads and high-pass filters, smooth sound and low noise these mics are versatile and offer great performance. Not the cheapest out there, but highly recommended for the price.

[Side Address] I did a lot of research for a matched pair of SDC mics that can get close to Neumann 184s in quality but for a LOT less money. These are it. They have a great neutral-sounding response, perfect for acoustic instruments. Recommended.
