[Full Frame] I create outdoor style content for various companies that are looking to have their products showcased in an outdoor setting. I have this lens paired with the Canon C70 and EF/RF adapter. Together, they are unstoppable. Canon has really done a great job by allowing the RF/EF adapter to work with these non RF lenses. This combo is put to work every day for 8-10 hours and rarely sees indoor work. It has been in rain, smoke, wind, sand, etc and never misses a beat. I have a slew of photo RF lenses from Canon but none of them hold a candle to the 18-80 for video work. This one lens has elevated my video content to look so good that it has separated me from the local competition. I get business inquiries almost daily asking for my services. Thank you Canon for making such a beautiful lens. I'm keeping this one indefinitely.

[Yes] Fantastically sharp and perfect for run and gun. I use it on an FS7 and it's brilliant, other than the rec button on the servo not working on a Sony cam.

[Full Frame] This is an excellent lens to really enable your C300 II to serve as both a beautiful cinema camera as well as an excellent run and gun ENG camera. Period. Parfocal is flawless. Quality of the output is stunning.

If on the other hand, you like lugging around a backpack or rolling case with a bunch of lenses, and your sound capturing devices then just keep that workflow. Hopefully, you have everything properly set up and dialed in before your subject either slithers away or the moment or action is over.

And, if you look at the sweet spot for all of your fast lenses, is it really f/1.7-2.8? Seriously doubt it. The shallow depth of field for the T4.4 is beautiful.


If the price is too high for you, then simple. Don't buy it.

[T2.4] Bought this lens a few weeks ago and love it. Communicates well with the EVA-1 and the Servo Zoom is awesome. I would have liked a faster lens but $$ wise, a great purchase. Thanks B& H.

[ARRI PL] Great companion for the Blackmagic Design STUDIO CAMERA 6K PRO. The zoom range is decent, yet not as great as the numbers may indicate. Good when paired with the 70-200MM side-by-side. The parfocal and 4.4F stop are good for this price range.

[ARRI PL] I use this lens for short films and it is great for just that. The zoom range is perfect on a s35 and its very quiet. This lens works very well on any of the C series cameras, we use it on the C100 and its great. The servo zoom is a great feature to have if you need to creep the focus in on a subject really slowly or fast. The t4.4 is comparable to f/4 and in my experience about 1/5 of a stop brighter, depending on the lens. I have yet to use its gears for follow focus, but I imagine that will be nice to use. The IS seems to be a little different than the EF still lenses, but I have no knowledge on this other than it appears to be geared toward video and smooths out the IS correction, whereas still lenses would make hard adjustments on occasion. This lens never leaves our Bcam because of the flexibility of the lens and the great image it produces, clean nuetral colors, sharp image and smooth Beaukeh (Bokeh). If you have 5G's and shoot primarily short films, and docs, this lens is well worth it.

[45 to 135mm] This is a really well constructed lens. It feels like it's worth every penny. The optics are crystal clear, no distortion of any kind that I can detect. The giant focus ring turns and turns - very nice for pulling focus. On the downside, at longer distances with the aperature wide open, the depth of field is razor thin, and the focus ring has increasingly less travel between steps at further distances. I realize this is physics, but I was personally surprised by how touchy focus is at 40-50' in lower light situations.

[Yes] This lens had been purchased to be used with a Canon C300 Mk III. It is sharp, renders beautifully and is relatively lightweight for a zoom of this magnitude. The accompanying grip, however, represents a terrible mismatch for the C300 with its own grip attached, as they come so physically close as to make either one unusable. I have removed the lens grip and have placed it back into the box that it had arrived in and I suspect that it will never see the light of day. It really is a shame, since the lens grip allows for modulated zooms that excel when compared to the controls mounted on the lens itself. In summary, I would give 5 stars for the lens, and and 0 for the grip.

[11] I have read several reviews that have taken issue with this lens being labeled as a 'cine' lens. The reviewers had not been specific about their complaints, but I have found the lens to be a much sharper renderer than its non servo, EF equivalent which I do own. With a 3rd party zoom rocker it functions smoothly. That said, when combined with a Canon C300 Mk III, its C-AF is somewhat slow, but accurate. The OIS, on the other hand, functions beautifully.
