Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When broadcasting sports, I have found that what we currently have does a poor job handling higher voice inflection and sudden increases in loudness. Will this headset do a good job of limiting that issue?

A: The Sennheiser HMD 26-II Broadcast Headset is designed for use in professional TV and radio applications, and works well in noisy environments. It has a frequency response range of 40 Hz to 16 kHz and a maximum sound pressure level of 128 dB. The attached microphone is dynamic and has a hypercardioid pickup pattern with a sensitivity level of 0.4 mV/Pa. It would be helpful to have some information about the headset that you are currently using to be able to compare the specs. It would also be helpful to know what the headset is connecting to and how that may affect the ability to adjust the sound. Please contact us by phone or through live chat on the website so we can best assist you.

Q: 2. Are the XLR and 1/4" ends for different feeds? Like one is for microphone, the other for listening?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser HMD 26-II-100 uses a 1/4" TRS connection for its headphones and XLR for its microphone.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with the HMD 280-13 headset?

A: The Sennheiser BMD42 will not work with the HMD 280-13. For a replacement, please request a special order through our phone system for a Sennheiser catalog # 083411.

Q: 4. Can you recommend an Audio Interface suitable for hmdc27?

A: There are numerous options for a USB audio interface that can be used to connect the Sennheiser HMDC 27 Professional Broadcast Headset and Cable to a computer. One of the most popular models is the Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB Audio Interface (B&H # FOSCARSOLO3GO), and the Arturia MiniFuse 1 Portable 1x2 USB Type-C Audio Interface (B&H # ARMINIFUSE1B) is another good option. The headset's mic connects to the XLR input on the interface while the headphones connect to the unit's 1/4" TRS headphone jack. You will need to set up your computer's system preferences for audio (sound) to select the interface as the option for the input and output device so the headset's mic and headphones are what will be used for the mic and speakers.

Q: 5. looking for a headphone like this to use for sports announcer, need 4 pin for clearcom and mic out for mixer. what does the 1/4 connect output and what does the 3-pin xlr do?

A: XLR is the Microphone connector, 1/4 is the Headphone connector.

Q: 6. Is this the headset only without the cable? Or does this include a cable?

A: This listing for the Sennheiser Single-Sided Broadcast Headset with Hyper-Cardioid Dynamic Microphone does not include a cable, which should be selected and added separately.

Q: 7. How does one specify the termination & pinouts?

A: This headset provides a bare-wire pigtail for soldering your own connectors.

Q: 8. Does Shure BRH441M-LC include cable?

A: I was wondering the same thing. After further checking item number on the Shure web site, the cable is not included. I'm guessing the "LC" in the item number stands for "less cable".

Q: 9. I have a technical question, I'm hoping you can help. - I own a Zoom H5. - I have just purchased the BPHS1 - I want to record Skype interviews (for my podcast) but am a little unsure on how to configure Zoom to achieve this. From my Mac, I have a cable that goes from the audio out, into the TRS input #2 on the H5 - to record my guest's voice. My headset/mic will be plugged into the XLR input #1 on the H5 - to record my voice. What do I need to do, to be able to HEAR my guest's voice? Is there anything in particular I need to configure on the H5?

A: The scenario you are describing requires the routing of audio in a way that is a bit more complex, and would best be served by using a mixer and audio interface. Connect the BPHS1 into a mixer like the Alto ZMX862 Zephyr. Take AUX SEND 1 out and plug it into input 1 of an audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB Audio Interface (2nd Generation). With regards to the skype audio in your computer, Take the master out of the audio interface and plug it into a stereo channel of the alto mixer. Now that all of the audio is in the mixer, take the master output and plug it into your Zoom H5 to record .

Q: 10. Will this Mic perform PA duties at a sporting event ?

A: Yes, but you would need the unterminated cable (B&H # SECABLEII6) available for separate purchase and you would have to solder on your own connectors. If you are looking for a headset that comes with the capability of connecting to the XLR mic input on a mixer and the 1/4'' headphone output on the same mixer, for connection to a PA system at a sporting event, the Sennheiser HMD 26-600-II-XQ comes with the connectors built onto the cable (B&H # SEHMD266IIXQ) and the Audio-Technica BPHS1 (B&H # AUBPHS1) is also a very popular option.

[150 dB] I cannot say it enough just how good these Sportscaster headphones are, the sound is very clear and the microphone is supreme. Headset is built very well, and will hold up for field use.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] Have purchased and used many Sennheiser products through the years. The HMD-25 was great. The HMD-26 was flawed, but many issues were corrected with the HMD-26-II. The HMD-27 has the around ear style. Personal preference for the 26-II on ear style. Noise canceling is very effective. We think the 600-ohm version (vs 100-ohm) is worth it. If you purchase the no cable option you'll need

[150 dB] Based on the reviews alone, I would have passed on this headset. I think the problem is people don't understand this is an ON ear headset and not an OVER ear headset. I work as a lighting designer and sometimes have to wear a headset for 15 hours straight. I was turned on to these after a show caller at an event had them, and her voice sounded amazing over intercom. These sound great in the ears, mic sounds great, and the look really professional too. I love that I can swing the earcup back to make it a single when I need to hear the room. I will agree that since it's an on ear headset it isn't as comfortable as some of the over ears. With that said, they are still way more comfortable than any of the clearcom or telex offerings, and sound SO MUCH BETTER. The noise isolation is really good too. I use these in combination with 15db molded earplugs in arena settings, and the SPL out of the headset is good enough to crank up and hear production, and the mic sounds better than my David Clarks. I love being able to swap the 4 pin cable out for an XLR/TRS cable that I can use for video conferences and remote support applications. I am very happy with this headset.

[4 mV/Pa] Exactly what we expected from Sennheiser. Very good quality and does what we need for outdoor sports broadcasting. Note that this large windscreen is much larger than the standard windscreen that comes with a new HMD-26 headset.

[1.4 lb] This is one of the best sounding Sportscasters we have ever used. Comes completely wired with the correct connections already installed, it is also well built and will hold up to TV Broadcast field use.

[0.5%] Easily the best headset I've had for speech. The mic is crisp, clear, and the pattern drops virtually all background noise.
