[Pad] We use this as a podum mic for spoken voice with PA, in hotel venues. We generally use wireless lavs on the principal talent, but the C1000S handles other people and also serves as backup. The hypercardioid insert provides an extra measure of resistance to feedback and ambient noise. This allows us to set it back a couple of inches further, which in turn provides more consistent level if the talent moves around a bit, and also discourages them from crowding the mic. Combined with a Sabine Feedback Exterminator, we can get adequate levels in almost any room, although sound-to-tape isn't nearly as dry as the sound coming from the lavs. Depending on the person speaking (especially with female voices) we sometimes need a bit of bass cut because the bass frequencies are enhanced by reflected sound from the podium surface.

[-10 dB] Now this Mic is AWESOME considering its low price. Designed for voice recording and instruments. Gives you that FAT Sound you always wanted. The quality is about the same with more features. Shelf Filter and a (-10dB Cut). It now uses (2) AA Batteries - Finally! My only complaint? The Foam Windscreen is loose and can fall off. Who cares! This thing is great.

[Phantom Power] I couldn't be happier with this product. Telefunken truly hit the mark in delivering something that brings professional grade quality to us laypeople. Yes. $1,000 is still a lot of money for a microphone, especially for me, but this TF-11 was worth it, even if it means top ramen for the next couple of months. [Cardioid] I bought a pair of these about a year ago to use as piano close mics for a jazz duo album, and Ive been impressed every time Ive used them after that.


Since then, Ive used these whenever I have an instrument which needs just a little more warmth and a little less brilliance (oboes, recorders, piccolos, sax players desiring a dark tone, etc.). Not only that, the WA-47jr has become my voice-over mic of choice. It suits baritone and bass voices extremely well.


Think of this mic as a perfect contrast to the modern ideal female vocal mics- a round, warm tone, but with vastly better-defined highs than even the best ribbons. When someone wants a dark tone, this is it!


The only issues I had with the mic were-
- The default shockmounts are absolutely terrible- the thumbscrew mechanism was barely able to hold the mic in place. I understand why they included them, but the first thing I did was order of a pair of replacement mounts.
- My old Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 (1st Gen) had trouble with background noise. Not sure if it was an impedance, phantom power, or other issue, but using a higher-end preamp, these work flawlessly. I guess its just however those two devices are designed doesnt quite play nice.


Hands-down, this is easily my top recommendation for a LDC under $300, especially for male/low voice and acoustic instruments. Multiple polar patterns, highs that dont sound like garbage, good off-axis coloration, and solid noise performance.

[Cardioid] I already have two mics: AKG C 214 and C 2000. This new one gives me a new color to my small collection, transparent sound, almost no noise, great natural sounding timbre... for sure, the right choice avoiding similar sound among my mics.

[Cardioid] In terms of noise, distortion, sensitivity, coloration and (as far as I could tell, polar pattern) there's nothing to fault. It's a very good LDC mic.

Such high fidelity reveals everything in the recording environment too. I would have to spend a fortune on acoustic treatment and sacrifice other uses for my room before I could tolerate the sounds it produces here.

Analogy: an ultra hi-res camera reveals all the things impairing the focus and contrast in your photos: defocus and motion blur, lens deficiencies, etc.

[Black] This is a mic that belongs in major studios across the country. On vocals, it gives a warmth and fullness to the voice that must be heard to be believed. Let any singer try this microphone and they'll be asking for it again, I promise. I'm a vocalist myself and I've tried a lot of different mics over the years, across different budgets. This is the mic I'd choose. As an engineer, I'd use it everyday. It's great on vocals, yes, but it can work for any other application you'd use an LDC for.

An added bonus is that it looks great! Classy, vintage, and it stands out from the crowd. If you see this mic anywhere, you'll instantly recognize it. and even though when it comes to mics looks technically don't matter, that's still good product development - something users can immediately recognize.

I've not found any flaws. It's pricey, yes, and this isn't a purchase someone should make if they're not serious about making music. But once you try it out you'll see why it costs what it does. It will last forever, and you'll never want to get rid of it!

[Pad] Had one years ago, even tried taping the windscreen back on as it still provided a very decent sound. The improvements in the switch and changeover to AA batteries as well as the vocal attachment make it one of the most versatile mic's in my arsenal. Whether voice, amp drums or instruments, it provides clear concise and fully articulated recreation of the original source. You can find more expensive solutions but be hard pressed to find a better one.

[End Address] This is an excellent microphone for both vocals and acoustic instruments. The battery power gives you phantom power equivalent in situations that don't have phantom power. A great, versatile mic to have for traveling musicians who want to make sure they have a consistent excellent sound.
