The Portman P1 Mini RGBW Decorative LED Light uses advanced warm white LEDs that are supplemented by RGBW LEDs to add a soft color-variable glow in a similar form to its larger counterparts. It can link to multiple units to pass through both power and DMX control signals.

A septet configuration of LED sources gives the P1 Mini a near-identical look to its tungsten counterpart. The color capabilities of the LED cells are veritably futuristic, yet the tubular 3W light sources contained within mimic warm-white halogen bulbs for a recognizably retro appearance. While these sources are adjustable only within a 1600-3200K tungsten color temperature range, they are backed up by a dynamic display of full-color spectrum light. This effect is achieved by 10W LEDs hidden behind the tungsten-type bulbs to provide consistent glows of a wide range of hues. Their red/green/blue/white configuration ensures a consistent rendition of cover across the entirety of their dimming range. The P1 Mini light fixture is enough to draw the attention of audiences, but rigging multiple units in an expansive structure is a sure way to mesmerize crowds.

Though it sports a particularly old-school façade, the P1 Mini operates using modern systems familiar to most lighting techs and stage designers. Located on the rear of the unit is a convenient LCD with four tactile buttons for navigating menus to set color, intensity, and other parameters to fit the needs of the production. As the P1 Mini is equipped with the Portman Color Feedback System, the buttons are backlit by RGB LEDs and will indicate a variety of current settings for hands-free monitoring of the light. When operating the fixture at a distance is preferred, a 5-pin XLR input is available for controlling these same settings as well as programmed macros using one's DMX control surfaces; a DMX output also allows for daisy-chaining up to 32 units at once. With the purchase of an optional wireless module from Portman, the P1 Mini may also be operated via WDMX.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can it connect to the app?

A: No, the SmallRig Vibe P108 Pro Mini LED Video Light is not app compatible.

Q: 2. The Mini Moon requires two NP-F batteries to work, and will not work with one of the two battery slots empty. My question is, do the two batteries filling the slots have to be identical? Thanks!

A: No, the two NP-F batteries do not have to be identical. It is possible to use two different size/brand NP-F batteries with the Genaray Mini Moon 11" Bicolor Soft LED light. However, do note that when the smaller of the two batteries runs out of power, the light fixture will stop working, regardless if the larger battery still has a charge.

Q: 3. what are the lumens at full brightness?

A: 1700 lux at 3.28 feet

Q: 4. Can an additional soft box be added or is the light itself soft enough?

A: Unfortunately, this light cannot accept a softbox.

Q: 5. Does this have a fan?

A: No, the Genaray Mini Moon 11" Bicolor Soft LED Light does not have a built-in fan; it uses passive cooling.

Q: 6. Will a Watson F550 battery power this light?

A: The Watson NP-F550 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.4V, 2200mAh) can be used to power the Genaray Mini Moon 11" Bicolor Soft LED Light.

Q: 7. The Mini Moon is pictured with a Watson Pro 14.4V 158Wh Slim Li-Ion Battery, which I know is NOT included. What pair of NP-F type battery is the equivalent of the Watson battery, and am I better off with one (the V-mount battery) or the other (a pair of NP-F batteries)? Thanks!

A: Two Watson NPF975 (or similar) would come closest with 115 watt hrs. That would run the light at full power for 1.9 hours. A 158Wh V mount would run it for 2.6 hrs.

Q: 8. Are two of these 11" lights ideal for talking heading videos at a computer desk or would a larger light with a softbox/dome be more ideal?

A: This would be a good choice and would take up less room than using softboxes.

Q: 9. Does it have a charging % indicator?

A: It does have a battery power indicator, represented by 3 bars for indication of approximate charge from 1 to 3 bars, with 3 being fully charged.

Q: 10. Are the LEDs in the rim or behind the diffuser?

A: The LED in this fixture are forward facing.

[90 W] Red...Green...Blue...White...Cyan...Magenta...Amber...Orange...you pick and choose.

Fire up DMX and not only do you have a nice color palette, but unlike nearly every derby effect light out there you can actually dim the intensity of each color! Really works well when combined with static lighting to get just enough movement blended into your look.

Loving it so far!

[Special Design] Despite the confusion in the Q&A above, this does have a fan on the bottom, see picture. It's *much* quieter than either of the two ADJ Dekker models which are the closest comparison I'm aware of. RGBW light quality is identical to those, although with a different dimming curve and strobe timing. The CMYO beams are projected opposing RGBW not mixed with them, which is a neat effect (see other picture of blue and orange channels from a single fixture). Be warned that if you're using SoundSwitch for DMX control, controlling CMYO requires attribute cues not simple color/intensity automation.

There are a couple issues with the manual, if I could take off half a star for them I would. The cyan and magenta channels are swapped, and the description of the movement channel could be better. The manual says 001-255, motor speed slow to fast. More accurate would be 0-127 indexed positions, 128-255 fast to slow then slow to fast direction and rotation.

The constant rotation gives you a much wider range of movement options vs the ADJ Dekkers, although there's no automated back and forth thus more programming required if you want a basic derby effect (requires attribute cues in SoundSwitch which is kind of a pain).

[7x Zone] Plug and play, I ordered 2 and hang them together. Quick and effect light show for small events. Cannot get much simpler

[Strobe] This is very good for the price. It's actually a bit bright so I have it turned all the way down. It would be nice to be able to dim it further, but its a steal at the price regardless

[LCD / 3-Button] Our church has been using off brand low quality led lights for our backline stage lighting the last 7 years. We were using traditional halogen based par 56's and 64's for our FOH facial lighting. We are not a very technical church and we don't do follow spots, color, or scene changes during our services. At the beginning of the year we set out to remove all of our off brand lights and traditional fixtures and replace them with a lower quantity, higher quality fixtures. When it came time to purchase the FOH replacements, the Blizzard Lb-Par RGBW met all the requirements we were looking for. We staggered 2 on each side of our sanctuary over the congregation roughly 20-30' away from the stage and they give just the right wash for our FOH facial lighting. The lights are so much brighter than what we were using that it made our naturally bright sanctuary feel slightly darker. I would highly recommend these lights for anyone needing basic stage washing of light. I know they would look great coming from the backline as well with a color wash.

[1800K] Very versatile light with multiple mounting options and full color spectrum. Nice for small sets and close up work. Soft, even illumination. App seems to work well so far too.

[90 W] I bought two of these. They have a lot of nice features and are easily set up. I got one hung and it worked perfectly, although for our stage it was a pretty wide wash. We may put barn doors on it. We have about a 24’ throw from that position.

For the other light, we accidentally put it through an abuse test. It got dropped from a 12’ height onto a concrete floor. The lens broke into several pieces and a two inch chunk of the metal case broke off. Amazingly enough, we put in the second lens and it worked fine. No LED or circuitry failure. Very tough little light. We are going to use it until it chooses to fail.

[Special Design] If you are a musician and you are tired of playing on dark stages where the women can't even see you, then I would suggest buying some of these mini-pars. They are individually dimmable (you do not need a lightboard controller) they give you a wide variety of colors and you won't have to take out a bank loan to own them. Programming is a snap. Just plug 'em in, and you are lit up ready to go. And the women will be throwing themselves at you !!
