Refining the essence of the respected HS series speakers in a more compact, creator-friendly housing, the black HS4 Studio Monitors from Yamaha are two speakers, one active that powers both speakers, which have 2-way nearfield monitors that provide a wide and accurate frequency response. Designed to deliver uncompromising audio quality for creatives with limited space, the HS4 monitors excel in applications such as music production and video editing.

The HS4 sports a 1" dome tweeter and a 4.5" cone woofer fed by a 26W amplifier. The rear panel features 3-way room correction trim switches for boosting low frequencies and attenuating or boosting high frequencies, letting you quickly tune your speakers for your unique acoustic environment, while volume control is available on the front panel. XLR-1/4" combo, stereo 3.5mm, and stereo RCA inputs provide balanced and unbalanced connection options, while a dedicated front-panel 3.5mm headphone output lets you quickly switch between monitors and headphones for mixing reference or in-room recording. The HS4 studio monitors include a speaker cable, a stereo 3.5mm to RCA cable, and eight antislip pads.

Ever since the 1970s, the iconic white woofer and signature sound of Yamaha's nearfield reference monitors have become a genuine industry standard for a reason—their accuracy. Unlike studio monitors with added bass or treble frequencies, which may sound more flattering at first, HS Series speakers were designed to give you the most honest, precise reference possible, providing an ideal sonic platform to build on throughout the mixing process.

By combining acquired knowledge and expertise with state-of-the-art sound technologies, Yamaha's speaker engineering team have examined, then optimized, every aspect that has contributed to making these monitors the most trusted in the business.

The HS4 continues the design philosophy and know-how of previous Yamaha studio monitors. No effort has been spared in the pursuit of the optimal product, and the resulting speakers are comprised of carefully selected parts such as a high-performance Class-D amp, highly resilient MDF cabinets, and woofers and soft dome tweeters that deliver a sound that is faithful to the source despite their small size.

They also feature proprietary Twisted Flare Port technology that reduces air turbulence noise in the bass reflex port, providing clear and accurate bass. That’s the secret to why the HS4 delivers outstanding resolution, sound image, and depth, with a flat response across all bandwidths without any coloring of the original sound.

The rear panel of the HS4 is equipped with combination XLR-1/4" TRS, RCA, and 3.5mm jacks, allowing you to connect to a wide range of professional and consumer equipment such as computers, audio interfaces, audio mixers, and electric instruments. The most commonly used features—power button, volume knob, and headphone jack—are located in the front for easy access.

The sound produced by speakers is sometimes affected by the surrounding environment. The rear panels of the HS4 are equipped with Room Control and High Trim functions that allow you to make adjustments to achieve the ideal sound for any environment, such as reducing the unneeded, exaggerated low-end that can often occur when speakers are placed next to walls.

The compact size of the HS4 is made possible thanks to the highly efficient Class-D amp. Using one amp for two speakers has enabled Yamaha to both reduce the weight of the speakers and simplify the cable connections. They take up little space even in a small bedroom studio, and are easy to take with you on the road.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When recording 32 tracks via a DAW with TB3, can a second Daw be connected to run a backup recording?

A: No this can only be connected to one computer at a time.

Q: 2. I have a set of 8 ohm speakers and a set of 6 ohm speakers I want to use at the same time.Do I set the impedence selecter to low or high? Thanks,Joe.

A: Set the impedance switch to "LOW"

Q: 3. Will this case fit the Canon RF 28-70 f/2 with the hood?

A: Yes, the RF 28-70mm f/2 does fit the Ruggard 6 x 4.5 lens case, but it is quite snug and the lens hood does meet some resistance going in.

Q: 4. which dimension, 6 or 4 1/2, is the diameter?

A: The interior diameter of the Ruggard Lens Case 6 x 4.5" (Black) is 4.5".

Q: 5. Previous answer about 15" speakers inadequate. Would this unit support Pioneer CS-99A speakers?

A: Thank you for supplying the brand and model number of this speaker. DESCRIPTION: Pioneer CS-99A Speakers...1973-1980 Specifications Type: 5 way, 6 driver loudspeaker system Frequency Response: 25Hz to 22kHz Power Handling: 100W Crossover Frequency: 800, 2000, 5000, 1000Hz Impedance: 8Ω Sensitivity: 97dB This integrated Yamaha amplifier will drive these speakers fairly well in a small to medium sized room. But to hear their true potential, I would suggest an amplifier that delivers over 150W per channel RMS at 8 ohms.

Q: 6. Which Ruggard Lens case is the right size for a Canon 24-70?

A: I have my 24-70mm and 2 screw on filters (in lens cases) in the lid of the 8 inch Ruggard Lens Case. This works very well for me.

Q: 7. Hello...will this be capable of holding a TS-E 24 mm ii lens? Are there other options like Lenscoat lens pouch that can fit this lens?

A: This case is more than capable of holding any lens that does not exceed the specified dimensions. I amusing the 12 long version of this product for a tele zoom I purchased that did not come with a travel bag. I have had it out in the rain, and there was no damage to the contents inside. It is nicely padded and comes with handy loops and straps and velcro loops to attach to a backpack or other luggage. Based on my experience, it is my opinion that this is a good value for the $, and provides more that adequate level of protection for my investment. Just verify that the internal dimensions are larger than the lens you intend to use it for. And for further piece of mind, I wrap the narrow end of my tele zoom with a piece of bubble wrap and/or foam to keep it centered in the case. Hope this helps.

Q: 8. What is the distance from the side 1/4 20 connector to the bottom arm?

A: That spec is not listed as this arm is specifically for ANDYCINE Monitors between 4.5 to 5.7 inches. If you have an ANDYCINE monitor in that size range this will work.

Q: 9. Will the 6x4.5 fit the Nikon z85 1.2S lens?

A: Yes, the Ruggard Lens Case 6 x 4.5" (Black) will fit the Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S Lens (Nikon Z) with the hood reverse mounted.

Q: 10. Will this bag fit a Nikon Z 24-200mm lens?

A: Yes, the Ruggard Lens Case 6 x 4.5" can accommodate the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR Lens (B&H # NIZ24200).

[Black] I own a video production service company wherein I do most of our editing as well as sound design for client videos. I use these monitors in my editing bay. They are interfaced with a dedicated card. These 8 inch monitors with built in amplification provide a descent flat, clean response for the price. After some configuration of the speakers and the room, I have what I feel like is really good sound imaging from these speakers. I compared other brands and sizes and from my research, I determined these to be in the sweet spot of what I was looking for without breaking the bank. And, I have not been disappointed.

[18.655 lb] I was looking for some monitors for my music production system, and found these Yamaha HS8 were just right. They are not too big, and just the right size to place on either side of my keyboards. The sound is clear and they have the right connections on the back.

[Stereo Pair] After doing much research, bought as gift for family member who is a music producer. He has been on the road a lot, and was using a smaller, 5 nearfield monitor that is more geared toward the EDM and hip hop crowd. Short of breaking the thousand dollar barrier, this seemed to be the most well reviewed among the ported designs in terms of accuracy and bass response. Upon receipt, were surprised by their size; if you are coming from a 5 monitor, these seem to be about twice as big. That said, build quality seems excellent, and he is extremely pleased with the results. Initially the neutrality and accuracy were kind of shocking for him. Once he adjusted, however, he said his music sounds exponentially better when mixed on the HS8s and then played in different environments. He said did not realize how much his older monitors were coloring his music. Says base response is vastly improved and detail is great across the spectrum.

[Black] These HS8 monitors were the perfect match to use with a keyboard. I enjoy pipe organ music so don't forget the HS8S matching subwoofer!

[Stereo Pair] I ordered a full Yamaha HS8 setup and have been incredibly impressed. I have two of these HS8 monitors and 1 of the HS8S (matching subwoofers).

Together these bring insanely high-quality studio sound to my setup. The speakers fit great on the side of my desk (I have a larger 80x30 desk), and the sound quality is fantastic.

I highly recommend it!

[18.655 lb] Just got these speakers today and my thoughts were that these are not that loud. I am running the volume knob on the speaker itself on max, and controlling audio on my M-Audio USB interface. It usually sits at around half for music playback. In terms of audio quality, these monitors are honest. It wont give you a punchy bass unless you send it through an EQ. Build quality is perfect! No defects on paint, cones or anything that I could pick out.
