This is a really great speed light. Everything about it is next generation, and there are improvements everywhere compared to the Neewer Z1 released only a year before. The Z2 has a better LCD screen a modern round head shape, an intuitive menu system and a huge capacity rechargeable battery cell. This flash works with in the entire neewer accessories system and wireless flash triggers.

The improvements over the Z1 are quantum leaped improved although the units look similar. This Z2 speed light works perfect in both manual and TTL settings with my Sony a7cii (only looking a little ridiculous because of the small footprint of the a7c2). If you need a speed light /flash system this is a great one to consider at one fourth the cost of a Sony branded flash system.

The Neewer Z2-S (Sony) works with every Sony mirrorless E system camera. (Both FE systems as well as ASP-C) It comes with a nice storage case, stand, battery pack, battery charger, USB-C cable and instructions with full illustrations. (You will however need reading glasses for the micro sized print.)

The unit's construction is similar in quality to a Sony NG60 sized flash and is slightly bigger and heavier than the Sony HVL-F46RM (25oz v 19oz with batteries). There are slight indentations, when the flash head is swiveled or rotated, but overall, the movements fill tight and well built. The flash has a nice quick release for the hot-shoe. I like the large rechargeable battery pack and never having to deal with AA batteries again.

[-7 to +90°] My Nikon SB-700 flash died after several years of moderate use. probably overheating. Bought this as an emergency replacement.
Cons -
Slightly larger and heavier than the Nikon.
A little noisy as it changes zoom
If wearing a hat, especially a hardhat the buttons on the back get actuated by the brim VERY easily.


Pros -
It works! It works really well! It works better in TTL than my Nikon flash ever did.
Those easy to mess up buttons that change function or level with a slight touch,,,they make it REALLY fast and easy to change settings when you want to! No more trying to remember all the Nikon button combinations and sequences if you don't use it every day.
Powerful! At least as good as the SB-700 maybe better.


Oh and in case you're wondering...IT WORKS ON A CANON EOS RP!!!....at least in manual mode!


One flash for both major brands...I can live with that!

[Shoe] This works very well to help stop the action on my macro photos. I'm happy with this flash.

[-7 to +90°] One technique in capturing images of hummingbirds is to use a bank of 3 or 4 strobes (flashes) to provide the light source and capture or stop the motion. After numerous brands and models of strobes I selected the Neewer NW620 because it did what I needed to do ... use a flash in manual control at a minimum output to eliminate the time for the flash to recharge itself. The flash, the Neewer NW620 out performed what I thought it would do. Using the Yongnuo RF603C II transmitters, I was able to have the strobes (3 or 4) simultaneously flash when the camera was making an exposure. Here are a few examples.

[1/8" / 3.5 mm] Pre-pandemic, we had a business taking photographs at events like weddings, parties, corporate events, etc. Mainly indoors and mainly in the evening. We then made prints and turned them into refrigerator magnets for the attendees. I used two of these units on a D5500 and D5600, in fill-flash mode. With fresh batteries they lasted all evening, never let me down. Great results, very flexible. They adjust automatically to match the zoom setting of the lens, and it was easy to dial up or down on the intensity of the fill flash.
