A: It certainly can hold a speed light. I am using it with an Atomos Ninja Blade and a Sennheiser shotgun microphone attached to it. However, it is not very sturdy and for controlled situations on a tripod only.

A: This bracket will allow you to mount the camera and a mic on a tripod. The mount will also allow you to point the mic in a different direction. Not sure about 40 degrees, but it does allow you to change the direction of the mic.
