Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do they make a swing away adapter for this?

A: We are not aware of a Swing Away Adapter for this Matte Box.

Q: 2. is there any shaded tray that we can adapt for this mattbox to use 4x4 filters in a 4x5.6 tray?

A: No, Tilta does offer a 4 x 4 filter tray option for the Tilta 3-Stage 4 x 5.65" Carbon Fiber Clip-On Matte Box.

Q: 3. I'm looking for something that fits the sony PZ 28-135mm. Would this fit the 105mm diameter with an adapter?

A: No, the Tilta 3-Stage 4 x 5.65” Carbon Fiber Clip-On Matte Box will not be able to attach to the Sony PZ 28-135 mm. You would need to measure the front of the lens with a caliper to get the diameter of the end of the lens. Another option would be to work with the included 15 mm rod mount and a 15 mm baseplate that allows you to work with 15 mm rods. It could be mounted that way.

Q: 4. Is there a 85mm Clamp-On Adapter for MB-T12 Matte Box? Will the 87mm Clamp-on work for a 85mm lens?

A: The 85mm adapter compatible with the Tilta MB-T12 Matte Box would be the Tilta Clamp-On Adapter for MB-T12 Matte Box (85mm), B&H # TIMBT1285.

Q: 5. will this work with Xeen 117mm front diameter?

A: The Rokinon Xeen lenses have a 114mm front diameter. They will work with this matte box

Q: 6. Has anyone been able to use this with the Canon f/2 28-70mm RF lens?

A: The Tilta 3-Stage 4 x 5.65" Carbon Fiber Clip-On Matte Box (95mm Back) would not be able to be used with the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 L USM Lens as it is designed to clamp onto cinema-style lenses.

Q: 7. Is it possible to configure this matte box to be use with only 2 filter stages?

A: Sorry, but we do not see any way to reconfigure this matte box to two filters stages.

Q: 8. How much this adapter weight?

A: The Simmod ARRI PL to FUJINON X Cine Pro Adapter weighs 1lb.

Q: 9. Does the mattebox hole rod fit and align with smallrig baseplate rod and 15mm rod ? Im planning to use this mattebox with smallrig rod and smallrig rod baseplate

A: This mattebox support all standard 15mm light weight rod spacing, as long at the base-plate adhere to the 15mm standards it will fit the the provided 15mm rod attachment on this matte box

Q: 10. Can you use a circular VND with this matte box?

A: The Tilta MB-T12 Matte Box can be used in conjunction with lenses that have screw-in circular VND lens filters such as the Tiffen 82mm Variable Neutral Density Filter (B&H # TIVND82), but it does not work with circular filters that use larger filter trays like the Tilta 95mm Variable ND Filter for Mirage Matte Box (B&H # TIMBT16VND).

[0.245 lb] I bought this because I was tired of seeing all the blooming filters. This gives a great look that doesn't look like everything else you see.

[Black] I have so many vintage lenses and I want to convert them all into LPL mount. And I love and trust Simmod. This adapter is expensive, yes, should it worth this much? No. But it’s made of very high quality materials. Not sure if it’s the L mount or this adapter but it wiggles just a tiny bit. Tiny but it’s there. Doesn’t bother me. My next step will be getting their conversion kit for FD SSC lenses. Then this expensive purchase will become more valuable. Also, super happy that Simmod partnered with BH! This way I can get all the simmod parts, accessories with free shipping and no tax with Payboo!

[6061 Aluminum] I've tried a few different PL mount adapters of varying prices from low to high. I can say with certainty that this is one of the best I've ever used. It has great machining, tight tolerances with no play when locked in. The lens feel supported and secure with the handful of lens sets I've tried. I have used other Simmod products in the past and have been happy so far with the quality of everything. I highly recommend giving this a try.

[0.245 lb] Really love this lens for indoor filming and filming outdoors at night. It creates a nice atmosphere and lowers contrast. Gives your footage a mood.

[Black] Having dealt with adapters over many years, you know that nothing comes close to a PL mount (don't get me started on positive lock EF, not even close... plus even Canon has kicked EF to the curb). LPL now takes PL and makes it literally bigger and better. For whatever reason, changing PL lenses always took a while to get it to sit in perfect for the lock to work, but so far with LPL it's been a piece of cake every time. Maybe that's an added bonus thanks to the rear guide? Anyhow, you may be thinking well the LPL to L is still a click-in adapter to the camera body. Correct, but Ron has created a collar that allows you to bolt the collar down to a plate along with the camera cage, then tighten the collar on the adapter and it's not moving. To be honest, even without the collar, these mounts are super accurate, so very little play with them to start with, but the collar just locks everything down tight. I always hated when using a follow focus (especially a focus motor) and every time you made an adjustment it shifted the lens in the mounts. Even the tiniest bit of movement showed up in the shot, so when you have two weak points, you get a lot of movement when you throw in some torque. With this setup, any movement between the lens and camera is now completely gone. I bought 4 LPL to L mounts and collars, instantly you should realize that is a big investment, but 100% worth it. Every time I use them, they make me happy, so thank you Ron and crew for continuing to push this industry forward!!

[0.245 lb] I own (and love) my newer Blackmagic Design 6k camera with full frame sensor and Leica L mount. I also have a number of wonderful new and old Zeiss PL mount fixed cinema lenses. (18mm - 200mm) So when I saw this adapter for sale at B&H, along with a good review of it, I took the plunge. I am not disappointed.

With this adapter, a fairly heavy Zeiss lens with ARRI PL mount, like their CP.2 25mm for example, hangs off the Blackmagic camera with no discernible wiggle. The lens goes on and off a bit tight, but hey, that's what I wanted. It looks great too, with excellent machining and black surface coating.

Note that — nothing to do with this excellent adapter itself — my oldest 1970s vintage Zeiss Super-16 lenses, while still producing great images, do vignette at the image corners, from 9mm to 16mm when the Blackmagic camera is set to FF 6k, exactly as I expected. But I could not have verified that without this Simmod adapter. Note also that simply changing the Blackmagic camera setting to capture a more restrictive Super-35 4k size, allowed more of my older PL mount Super-16 lenses to be used. The lens coating on those older Zeiss is not quite as nice as the newer CP.2 or CP.3 but still hard to see much difference in most lighting conditions. Again, this Simmod adapter allowed me to test all this.
