An ideal protective filter for outdoor use, the Tiffen 86mm UV Haze 2A Filter - Coarse Threadsfrom Tiffen 86mm UV Haze 2A Filter - Coarse Threadsis a clear UV filter that helps to reduce haze and unwanted blue color casts when photographing at high altitudes or near water. The 2A strength of this filter is more effective that the standard Haze-1 filter at reducing haze and is especially well-suited for aerial and drone photography applications. Additionally, as a clear filter, it can also be used as general protection for the front of your lens to guard against scratches, fingerprints, dust, and other elements.

The filter is constructed using Tiffen's ColorCore technology, which involves laminating the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, grounding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and mounting within an aluminum alloy ring. The coarse thread version of the filter has a thread pitch of 1.0.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this filter cause vignetting on a 24 mm lens such as the Nikon 24-120 VR?

A: It should not at 24mm. The determining factors are the body you are shooting (full frame or cropped sensor). Full frame cameras are more likely to have vignetting issues. There are so many camera & lens combinations it is impossible for us to test with all of them. If you want to be sure, you can purchase item # 77WIDHZE, which has lower profile rings to avoid vignetting:https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/163477-REG/Tiffen_77WIDHZE_77mm_UV_Haze_1_Wide.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/163477-REG/Tiffen_77WIDHZE_77mm_UV_Haze_1_Wide.html/a

Q: 2. Thia filter absorbs all UV light. What are the advantages and disadvantages of absorbing all UV light.

A: UV 2A rated filters are recommended for photographers who are going to be doing shoots at higher elevations such as mountains etc, where the UV Haze that is present in the atmosphere has a different level of effect than it does closer to sea level. Essentially at higher elevations there are greater amounts of UV light present which need to be filtered out for clearer images. They remove the bluish cast caused by UV light. In general there are no disadvantages to this filter.

Q: 3. Good MorningMy question is very simple. Generally are UV Haze Filters, like this one, also recommended for HD CAMCORDERS wide lenses ? Or you recommend another one ?Carlos

A: You may use UV Haze filters on both still cameras and camcorders alike. However, the B+W 72mm UV Haze SC 010 Filter listed above would be a good recommendation for cameras that have a 35mm film full-frame focal length equivalent of 24mm or longer (to prevent vignetting). If the lens you own has a full-frame equivalent focal length wider than 24mm, then a slim filter would be recommended for use. As such, for wider lenses, I would instead recommend either the B+W 72mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter, B&H # BWUVMCS72, or the B+W 72mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter, B&H # BWUVXSP72.

Q: 4. I just purchased the Nikon 10-24. Any vignetting issues with wide angle lenses? Is ring thin enough?

A: For a super wide-angle lens like your Nikon 10-24, you'd be better off with the more expensive B+W XS-PRO UV Haze because it's slimmer. Mary B's response is utterly irrelevant because she's referring to a telephoto lens.

Q: 5. Hi, What is the exat difference between Tiffen Haze 1 and Haze 2A filters? I don't see any clear difference, besides the cost. Thank you!!

A: Hi Aquiles,According to Tiffen, the 2A absorbs all ultraviolet light, whereas the 1 absorbs only 71% of UV. Film and sensors detect UV as additional brightness in subjects like the sky even though our eyes don't, so a UV filter renders photos that are closer to what we perceive. I think you will see slightly richer colors overall with the 2A, but the 1 would make a noticeable improvement. You won't be able to see a difference by just looking through the filter because our eyes naturally filter out the UV.If the extra cost bugs you, go with the Type 1. It will improve your photos as compared with no filter. If you want to get the bluest sky, the Type 2A is better. Incidentally, a polarizing filter can do an even better job of darkening the blue in the sky.Jim

Q: 6. Will this filter work with a Canon 70-300mm USM IS telephoto lens?

A: yes it will and a good solid uv filter

Q: 7. What is the thread pitch for this filter?

A: This filter has a 39mm filter thread.

Q: 8. Will this filter work with the Nikon 500mm f/4.0P IF ED manual focus lens? Thank you

A: If any filter would work, the B+W would as they are the best make of filter available. With a brass black mount and optically perfect glass, you should not have any problems.

Q: 9. Will this filter fit on a Canon EF 70-200mm lens?

A: It depends upon which version of the 70-200mm you have: the f/4 versions have a 67mm filter thread, while the f/2.8 versions have a 77mm thread. Check exactly which version you do own (there are five by now!) and look at the filter thread or filter size in specs.

Q: 10. will this fit the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-120 mm f/4G ED VR lens??

A: This filter is too large as it is a 122mm diameter, the Nikon AF-S 24-120mm F4 VR lens requires a 77mm sized filter.

[Aluminum] Granted I am an enthusiast level photographer but I can't imagine anyone needing a $450 filter! Not when this one is so sweet and sharp.

[86 mm] I have been looking for a filter to take the haze out of the photos I've been taking from our new house. As we live across a river from our nearest large city which by chance has a mountain for a back drop we inherently get a large amount of haze. Especially on fine days, this filter takes care of that problem perfectly. I now do not get the white-grey saltwater haze that comes of the river or the blue haze that chokes out the mountain, it's brilliant!
