The M2 Ultra is built from two M2 Max dies connected through UltraFusion, which is Apple's custom-built packaging technology. UltraFusion uses a silicon interposer that connects the dies with more than 10,000 signals, providing over 2.5 TB/s of low latency interprocessor bandwidth. UltraFusion's architecture enables the M2 Ultra to appear as a single chip to software. This means code doesn't need to be rewritten to utilize the extreme performance of the M2 Ultra.

The 24-Core CPU of the M2 Ultra consists of 16 next-gen performance cores and eight next-gen high-efficiency cores, delivering up to 20% faster performance than its predecessor, the M1 Ultra. Combined with a 76-core GPU and 64GB of unified RAM with 800 GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, this Mac Pro has the performance of not just one, but seven Afterburner cards built-in. It also features the industry-leading media engine, allowing playback of up to 22 streams of 8K ProRes video.

Combine Apple silicon performance with the versatility of PCI expansion. The Mac Pro features six PCIe Gen 4.0 slots, which provide twice the bandwidth for audio and video I/O, networking, and storage cards. There are two double-height PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 slots, two single-height PCIe 4.0 x8 slots, and two double-height PCIe 4.0 x 8 slots. There is also a half-length PCIe 3.0 x4 slot that is occupied by the Apple I/O card.

The Mac Pro offers a wide array of connectivity, starting with eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, which support up to 40 Gb/s data transfer rates and DisplayPort. There are also two HDMI ports that support high-bandwidth 48 Gb/s HDMI, enabling resolutions up to 8K and refresh rates up to 240 Hz. The two USB-A ports can handle legacy USB devices while the 3.5mm audio jack provides headphone support. There are also wireless connectivity enhancements, such as Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.3. You can also opt for a reliable, wired connection via the dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN jacks.

The Mac Pro maintains its unique stainless steel space frame, removable aluminum housing, and advanced thermal system. The chassis is solid and stable. And thanks to the power efficiency of Apple silicon, the Mac Pro runs even cooler and quieter under heavy workloads.

Thousands of pro apps are optimized for Apple silicon. Because macOS was designed to scale with Apple silicon, the M2 Ultra brings a huge boost in app performance and capability to the Mac Pro. And there are thousands of apps optimized to unlock the full power of Apple silicon. From rendering effects to compositing 8K scenes to analyzing enormous data sets, your go-to apps run faster and smoother than ever.

The Mac Pro was designed with the environment in mind, including 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, and 100 percent recycled gold plating and tin soldering in multiple printed circuit boards. The Mac Pro also uses far less energy than desktop computers in the same class, and over 40 percent less than the ENERGY STAR efficiency requirement. The Mac Pro is free of mercury, PVC, beryllium, and over 95 percent of the packaging is fiber based.

Q: 1. Can you add memory later?

A: Yes, I immediately swapped my memory and put 64GB - not too large of an investment (I used a reputable aftermarket company that will take the old memory in trade). My thought is this, buy the base model (4 core) and when the 12 core CPU comes down in price you have a plug and play 4X throughput improvement (not 4x the speed for every application - only if the app is written for multithread operations) - 12 core is also great if you run lots of concurrent applications. Get a fast thunderbolt external drive for storage. My favorite computer over the last 30 years (love the design, super powerful and no white noise) and I've been building systems since high end was adding a 8087 math coprocessor to your 4.77MHz 8088 PC... (On a side note 64GB of ram would have cost $24,000,000 when I first started playing with these types of toys)

Q: 2. If i buy this mac, can i use a 4k 50 samsung smart tv as monitor for it ?

    A: Yes. I have a Samsung 55 4K smart tv that I use as a monitor.

Q: 3. I will be purchasing the 6 core Mac Pro. I plan on mainly using it with Final Cut Pro X. Will I see that much difference compared to the 4 core Mac Pro?

A: I really can't answer your question. I have no comparison between the 4 and 6 core. I do know that I am very satisfied with my quad core. It meets all my needs. I use bought it mainly for Capture One Pro 10 and It does a great job. I did add the AMD 300s. tony system

Q: 4. What sort of adapter gizmo do I need to connect multiple Firewire external HDs to this beast?

A: Apple makes an adaptor for thunderbolt to Firefire. Due to the insane speed of thunderbolt, you can probably run several drives daisy chained on one adaptor. There are six thunderbolt ports on this computer.

Q: 5. On my Ipad air, I can't connect the samsung T3 easily. Can I on Ipad pro, or any current iPad, or does that require a laptop?

A: Yes, the Apple 12.9" iPad Pro M2 Chip (Late 2022, 512GB, Wi-Fi Only, Space Gray), B&H # APMNXU3LLA, supports external drives like the Samsung T3. A laptop is not required.

    Q: 6. Is this model 5th Generation?

    A: The Apple 12.9" iPad Pro M2 Chip (Late 2022, 256GB, Wi-Fi + 5G LTE, Silver) BH #APMP613LLA is a 6th gen iPad.

Q: 8. The 12 core mac pro(2013) is the original upgrade?

A: The Mac Pro CPU options have changed over the years (this is in reference to the Mac Pro that was released in late 2013).The 12 core CPU is the fastest offered in the Mac Pro at this time. The performance is impressive for both the 8 & 12 core machines.Make sure you get plenty of RAM for the programs you will be running.

Q: 9. what did this item sell for?

    A: $2,499

    Q: 10. good for video editing?Thanks.

A: I had a top of the line iMac and switched over to the Pro, Well worth the money. The first key is to buy as much memory as you can afford....64GB if possible. Second key is buying the hottest graphics card available....then it domes down to how many cores. More cores handle more threads. Video is nothing but threads of data so more cores is better. I love my Pro and as soon as thy come out with the next generation I will be in line to buy it. This thing is hot hot hot

[Integrated] Great machine. It's fast and handle all I throw at it such as handling a DAW for music editing and HD Graphic software. I don't know why it took me so long to migrate over to Mac mini from a desktop PC.

[1280 W with IEC] Needed a new desktop Mac to replace my 2020 Mini, and caught this Mini M2 Pro 512/16 on sale. My original plan was to hold out for the new M4 model, but I couldn't wait any longer. My primary use is photo editing (Lightroom Classic) and occasional 4k video in Final Cut Pro. The speed and performance boost was immediately noticeable - tasks that used to bog down my older Mini now feel effortless with this M2 Pro. Having 4 Thunderbolt ports instead of 2 also means less drive-swapping, this is a very welcome addition. Very happy with this Mini M2 Pro!

[2x HDMI Output] I know the M4's are around the corner but I could not wait any longer. I'm a creative professional and my 2017 iMac was not cutting it anymore. So after MONTHS of research I chose the M2 Pro 16/512 set-up. I also bought an Apple Studio display refurbished from Apple. I immediately noticed a tremendous difference in performance when it came to Lightroom. I could easily go thru my photos without a multi-second lag. When I use the AI denoise feature - it's MUCH faster - with my 2017 iMac it would take about 35 seconds - with my m2 pro Mac Mini it completes the task in less than 10 seconds. When you apply that to HUNDREDS of photos the time saved is worth it alone. Editing 4K footage in Premiere is effortless.

I also bought an SSD enclosure with a 2TB Western Digital SSD to serve as my scratch disk. Finally I got the magic trackpad and touch ID keyboard.

    I'm loving this set-up!

[5.3] I was using an Apple Mini M1 and it was great, but struggled with two monitors. The M2 took care of that problem. Too, when I upgraded I went to 32MB Ram and 1TG SSD. I'm not sure I need all this power, but it's there if and when I ever do. Love my Mac!

[Mid 2023] I love it when a computer is fast and this one really is. Reliable, quiet, takes up very little space on my desk and the screen redraws in a blink of an eye. I'm glad I bought it.

[1280 W with IEC] This machine lacks the bells and whistles of an iMac, but makes up for it in performance. Fancy sound and video can be added later.
I chose the Mac mini M2 Pro to handle processing large image files. So far, everything seems faster, and less of a burden for the machine.
    I love it.
