Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How heavy is it, and how quickly would I get tired from holding it up?

A: It's not very heavy vs the other ones. I think this one (even though it's price) is one of the lighter glidecams. It has very nice fine tune adjustments and can be flipped upside down. But to be honest, I quickly realized that a cheaper Laing stabilizer on Amazon for $280 is exactly the same thing and just as amazing if not better because I'm saving a 3rd of my money. It literally does the same exact thing. I say check it out and see if it interests you, but if you must have the glidecam brand then this is the best and I would recommend getting an arm brace or start lifting weights lol ... It can feel somewhat heavy after 15-20 mins.

Q: 2. I use arca swiss for my camera. Can you recommend a good adaptor?

A: The ProMediaGear PM501 Manfrotto-Type Quick Release Plate with Arca-Type Clamp (BH #PRPM501 MFR #PM501) can slot into Manfrotto 501PL, RC3, RC5, and NG heads like this stabilizer’s, while accepting Arca-style plates/cameras on the top. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1354246-REG/promediagear_pm501_manfrotto_type_quick_release.html

Q: 3. Hi, I have the Canon C100 and I use Canon 24-70mm lens most of the time. Is that equipment to heavy for this Glidecam? I know it says 12lb but is that not to much?

A: You should be good!

Q: 4. Is the removable plate a '504PLONG' type?

A: The plate is compatible with Manfrotto 5xx series plates.

Q: 5. Does the Glidecam support the Panasonic AG-AC160?

A: YES, YOU CAN USE IT!

Q: 6. can i balance blackmagic pocket cinema camera 6k on this?

A: Yes you can. This system has a load capacity between 2 to 12 pounds. It is a great choice for the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K.

Q: 7. What is diameter of balancing pin?

A: unfortunately this information is not provided by the manufacturer

Q: 8. What size is the thread on the foot? None of my lens supports can screw into it. They have 1/4-20 screws.

A: Simmod says the thread size of the mounting point on the foot of the Simmod ARRI PL to Sony E Cine Pro Adapter is 1/4 20.

Q: 9. What is the difference between the Devin Graham version vs. the regular HD 4000?

A: this is soooooooooooooooooo much better...Saving time to balance..Lighter weight . less space while travelling......Adjustable ........I think they should trough out the HD 4000 and just ask people to buy this version

Q: 10. I would like to purchase this hood for my olympus rc with a 40mm lens. It should fit but will it show in photos?

A: No, it won't show.

[43.5 mm] I own (and love) my newer Blackmagic Design 6k camera with full frame sensor and Leica L mount. I also have a number of wonderful new and old Zeiss PL mount fixed cinema lenses. (18mm - 200mm) So when I saw this adapter for sale at B&H, along with a good review of it, I took the plunge. I am not disappointed.

With this adapter, a fairly heavy Zeiss lens with ARRI PL mount, like their CP.2 25mm for example, hangs off the Blackmagic camera with no discernible wiggle. The lens goes on and off a bit tight, but hey, that's what I wanted. It looks great too, with excellent machining and black surface coating.

Note that — nothing to do with this excellent adapter itself — my oldest 1970s vintage Zeiss Super-16 lenses, while still producing great images, do vignette at the image corners, from 9mm to 16mm when the Blackmagic camera is set to FF 6k, exactly as I expected. But I could not have verified that without this Simmod adapter. Note also that simply changing the Blackmagic camera setting to capture a more restrictive Super-35 4k size, allowed more of my older PL mount Super-16 lenses to be used. The lens coating on those older Zeiss is not quite as nice as the newer CP.2 or CP.3 but still hard to see much difference in most lighting conditions. Again, this Simmod adapter allowed me to test all this.

[Aluminum] Having dealt with adapters over many years, you know that nothing comes close to a PL mount (don't get me started on positive lock EF, not even close... plus even Canon has kicked EF to the curb). LPL now takes PL and makes it literally bigger and better. For whatever reason, changing PL lenses always took a while to get it to sit in perfect for the lock to work, but so far with LPL it's been a piece of cake every time. Maybe that's an added bonus thanks to the rear guide? Anyhow, you may be thinking well the LPL to L is still a click-in adapter to the camera body. Correct, but Ron has created a collar that allows you to bolt the collar down to a plate along with the camera cage, then tighten the collar on the adapter and it's not moving. To be honest, even without the collar, these mounts are super accurate, so very little play with them to start with, but the collar just locks everything down tight. I always hated when using a follow focus (especially a focus motor) and every time you made an adjustment it shifted the lens in the mounts. Even the tiniest bit of movement showed up in the shot, so when you have two weak points, you get a lot of movement when you throw in some torque. With this setup, any movement between the lens and camera is now completely gone. I bought 4 LPL to L mounts and collars, instantly you should realize that is a big investment, but 100% worth it. Every time I use them, they make me happy, so thank you Ron and crew for continuing to push this industry forward!!

[43.5 mm] I have so many vintage lenses and I want to convert them all into LPL mount. And I love and trust Simmod. This adapter is expensive, yes, should it worth this much? No. But it’s made of very high quality materials. Not sure if it’s the L mount or this adapter but it wiggles just a tiny bit. Tiny but it’s there. Doesn’t bother me. My next step will be getting their conversion kit for FD SSC lenses. Then this expensive purchase will become more valuable. Also, super happy that Simmod partnered with BH! This way I can get all the simmod parts, accessories with free shipping and no tax with Payboo!

[43.5 mm] Do I really need this ? Absolutely, no! But I love Simmod. I love modding my own lenses. And this mat helps keeping everything organized. I'm happy with this mat. You can tell the quality the moment you hold it. Next, Simmod LPL to L mount adapter.

[Aluminum] I've tried a few different PL mount adapters of varying prices from low to high. I can say with certainty that this is one of the best I've ever used. It has great machining, tight tolerances with no play when locked in. The lens feel supported and secure with the handful of lens sets I've tried. I have used other Simmod products in the past and have been happy so far with the quality of everything. I highly recommend giving this a try.
