Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, I lost my screen for this light. Where can I buy a replacement?

A: Scott, it looks like B&H carries them. Here's the product number: B&H # LOPSTL

Q: 2. What is the difference in application for the white versus basic umbrella?

A: The Basic Umbrella Kit offers a Lowel Silver Tota-Brella, which is better for adding contrast or brighter highlights, while this particular Tota-Light One Light Kit offers a Lowel White Tota-Brella for a softer light quality.

Q: 3. What would be a comparable LED setup?

A: The Lowel TotaLED Daylight LED 1-Light Kit, B&H # LOTOTALED1K, along with the additional purchase of the Lowel Umbrella - Tota-Brella - Silver - 27", B&H # LOTBS, would offer a similar LED alternative to the tungsten Lowel Tota-Light One-Light Kit listed above.

Q: 4. What tripod is recommended for this light?

A: Pretty much any light stand will work.

Q: 5. Can I use a Photoflex softbox with this Impact ring? The photoflex speed ring for Lowel Tota light looks identical to this, despite being a hundred dollars more expensive.

A: If the rings are the same size diagonally from rod plug-in point to plug-in point, it is probably physically possible to make this substitution. However, you will have to use one of Photoflex's softboxes which are constructed to be heat resistant. I bought an Impact kit of two large softboxes with rings and stands from B&H earlier this year because the Photoflex softboxes I own are for strobes and could never stand the heat from the 750watt quartz lamps in the Tota lights. The Impact boxes are constructed of fairly heavy material and actually have vent flaps in the side walls to let heat escape. I see that Photoflex offers at least one softbox meant for hot lights, but having never used it I can't offer any input on comparison with the Impact box. If you are looking to use an existing Photoflex softbox which is actually meant for strobe use, you may be flirting with disaster. I hope this helps.

Q: 6. Is there a soft box that works with this product instead of using the umbrella?

A: Yes there is. Chimera makes a nice video softbox and speed ring (adapter ring to mount the softbox) that would work well with the light. See the links below for details:http://bhpho.to/ryfFJDhttp://bhpho.to/JzoWDG

Q: 7. My 750w bulb burns after few minutes, the power rating of my country is 220v, what do i do?

A: Also, make sure that the barn doors are not too close to the glass of the lamps (open up the doors fully), and make sure that the bulbs are clean (can clean with rubbing alcohol and soft cloth) so that dust and grease are not burning on the surface.

Q: 8. Can you use an umbrella that you would use with strobe lights with this light or do you need a special umbrella made to work with this hot tungsten bulb?

A: The umbrella would need to be rated for use with hot lights, preferably one that is rated for 1000 watts or higher.

Q: 9. Does this light come with the bulb ?

A: No, it does not. Bulbs are around $5

Q: 10. Can this be used with the chimera pancake softboxes?

A: Yes, as long as your Tota lamp doesn't exceed the rating of 1500 watts. For any softbox, you absolutely must check the manufacturer's watt ratings. Lowell Totas typically use lamps at 500, 750, or 1,000 watts -- far too hot for most softboxes. Many softboxes are rated only for strobes or for flourescent lights, With these boxes, Tota lights present a serious fire hazard. Even if you're within the maximum rating, remove the inner fabric diffuser, open the vents, turn your lights off at every opportunity, and keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

[4] I was able to bring new life to my old Lowel Total-Light. This speed ring and a soft box make for a beautiful interview light. I shoot video and I'm always looking for great soft light... this is it.

[4] My daughter needed a new light and fast. A good friend suggested that I call customer service and I am so glad I did. The support guy listened carefully to what I needed and what our price range was and offered two options. I took a leap and went with Tota. This little thing puts out a ton of light for being so small and lightweight. In fact, I ordered a white umbrella today to filter but it was perfect to eliminate backlight shadows. I love that it is so lightweight since we have been working with some older, bulky lights. I wish I had ordered the stand cause we had to find and rig one up since the one I had wasn't sturdy enough to handle the way the light sits off balance on the stand.

[Lowel Tota] A lot of light in a small package. Lightweight and packs small for travel, I use them for video. When size and weight matters , they can't be beat. They do run hot, and draw about 7 amps.

[2.035 lb] This was one of the first video lights I ever used over 15 years ago and it's still one of my favorites for budget applications. For the price, this kit is an excellent choice for schools, churches, community groups, and small businesses who need an inexpensive way to drastically improve the look of their videos. It's sturdy and lightweight and the umbrella included with this kit essentially makes it an inexpensive alternative to a softbox that costs nearly 3x as much. The only downside is that it gets very hot, but that's a given with any tungsten light.

[4] Not much to say. It's well built and holds the softbox.

[2.035 lb] I typically use these for back light but they are excellent you need a bright dimmable light in a tight space. The gel frame is a nice ad-on but before I go one, I would carefully rig the light with cloths pins. With an umbrella, this light gets even more versatile. My only caution is, this is tungsten so it gets hot.

[4] I really like this light as it's sturdy and portable. It's very bright, and can be used for photoshoot and filming videos as it's not heavy or clunky. Highly recommend!
