Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. when this lens will be available to buy?

A: Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated arrival date for the Nikon PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED Tilt-Shift Lens at this time. If you havent already, you could choose the Request Stock Alert option on the lenss page on our site. We would then send you an email when the lens came into stock. That being said, we are accepting preorders on the lens at this time.

Q: 2. Will this lens work on the Z6 (with adapter)?

A: Yes.

Q: 3. For architectural work do you think this 19mm or the 24mm tilt/shift is the better overall option to have on a job?

A: The 19mm is the first NIKKOR tilt-shift that allows you to rotate the angle of tilt. There are times when this can be a great advantage. I've never used the 24mm; but the 19mm can get closer and is so sharp on a 36 M-pixel body that if I must shoot from further away, I can crop the smaller image and blow it up to the desired size.

Q: 4. Will this also be compatible with the Pyxis? Similar to bridgeplates for Arri?

A: The Blackmagic Design 19mm Baseplate for URSA Cine 12K is not compatible with the PYXIS.

Q: 5. Mounted on the d850, can you use the focusing zebra stripes in live view mode with this lens and if so is it accurate?

A: When in Movie mode on the Nikon D850, one can enable zebra stripes while this lens is in use. The accuracy will not differ as compared to the accuracy when using other lenses.

Q: 6. Is the bayonet fitting just for the cap? It would be very useful to have a hood for this lens even if it was designed only for the unshifted/tilted FOV

A: Just for the cap (unless Nikon plan to come along with a hood sometime later...but I doubt it). $70 for the cap if you need a replacement -- so take care of it!

Q: 7. No hood available from Nikon, is one not needed? How bad is glare and reduced contrast when key light is in front/side of camera? Note front glass bulbs out. Nano coating can only do so much, no? Any success in using flags in lieu of a hood? Or is lack of a hood not a concern with this lens?

A: There is a good reason why there are no hoods for very wide lenses; to wit, a hood that actually protects the lens from flare is also visible in the frame. My rule of thumb to make sure no light is flaring or causing ghosts on my lens is this: From moderately wide to tele lens length, I use lens hoods, or matte boxes or adjustable sunshades on the camera to block the spurious light. However, on very wide lenses, the flare has to be flagged at the light source that is causing the problem. Even outside and it is the sun hitting the lens, use a grip flag on a stand to stop the direct light of the sun. Do not have such equipment? Then have a friend hold any rectangular object so the the flare from the sun is blocked. How to know it is working? Make sure the shadow of the flag covers the front element of the lens. Nikkor lenses are among the finest in the world. The lens coatings on this lens are no less than that. You can be sure that for all but the most direct specular light rays, light hitting this lens will be flare and ghost free.

Q: 8. Does this not come with the lamp holder?

A: No, the Profoto Zoom Rod Small does not come with the lamp holder.

Q: 9. Can the aperture be set with the camera like the other Nikon tilt-shift lenses?

A: Yes, it can, just use A mode on the camera.

Q: 10. My microphone, Sony ECM-MS2 has a 24mm diameter. Does this windcover which is for 23mm stretch to fit or will it be necessary to get the 25mm version, which will probably be a loose fit?

A: The Cavision SWJ223 should be fine for the Sony ECM-MS2; a tight fit most likely given the 1mm difference. FYI, this is a special order item however, and is non-cancelable and non-returnable.

[19 mm] If your cameras can quickly go from handheld, to gimbals/ steady cam, to sticks, (as they should) this bridge is absolutely necessary and pairs perfectly with the nucleus handles. So if you have the nucleus 2/3 motor system, you absolutely need this bridge for your setup.

[Stainless Steel] I use this as a substitute to the cheap Nucleus-M 15mm bushings. Built super solid, the motor has zero movement when you torque this thing down.

[2] Solid rod. Fraction of the price of competitors.
Can't argue with that...

[Stainless Steel] I liked this 19-15 adaptor. Im steadicam operator and all my brackets are Jerry Hill. sometimes is difficult fit the motor on the lens and when I saw this, I realiza you can change the measure of the rods. I used twice since I bought and it works.

[19 mm] I used to use 15mm carbon fiber and aluminum rods. After you've tried steel or titanium rods, you'll never go back. They're more expensive and probably overkill for the majority of prosumer videographers with small mirrorless cameras, but if you're using a fully decked out Arri or RED cinema camera for film or TV projects, I recommend steel or titanium, and Tilta has a good track record with quality camera accessories.
