Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The LiveU competitor VidiU lets you broadcast directly to Youtube from its admin page at no cost provided you do not want to do bonding. Does LiveU offer something similar not requiring a service or is it straight RTMP when not provisioned with a cloud service?

A: yes LiveU will allow you to broadcast directly to a CDN without the use of their service. you can go to youtube, vimeo or any other platforms

Q: 2. How many camera licenses come with the unit?

A: This NVR comes with 8 camera licenses.

Q: 3. Does this hook up directly to internet/YouTube or to a laptop and from there to internet-YouTube?

A: This connects directly to youtube, etc through an internet connection. It does not need a laptop to function in the field. We have used a cellular usb modem, direct Cat5 internet connection, wifi, and a Cradlepoint cellular device to access the internet with no issues. We start the stream by accessing the Solo website with a smartphone. The events can be pre-configured using a pc but its not required. I hope this helps and we highly recommend using the LiveU Solo.

Q: 4. Can this unit connect through rj45 (ethernet cable) to my ubiquiti Gateway and provide internet to my local network on site while uploading my live stream? Would I just not use an hdmi or sdi and allow wirecast to use the internet provided by this units bonded modems? Or is it only for upload and no download?

A: We're afraid not. According to LiveU this unit will not provide internet to an outside device however it will take an Ethernet connection for streaming.

Q: 5. Do 5G USB modems exist? Looking at LiveU devices but wondering if they exist at all.

A: The LiveU LU300S Encoder Field Unit with 4 x 4G/5G Modems BH #LILU300S5G4G • MFR #LU300S-5G-2-4G-2 comes with 4 x 4G/5G modems.

Q: 6. Could this stream simultaneously to Facebook and YouTube and Twitter?Does it get the streaming keys by itself after initial setup, or they have to be inputted every session?Once setup is it a simple operation? Thanks a lotMichael

A: Reports indicate that you can only use one stream at a time. If you log into YouTube, it gets the keys by itself and you can use the same set-up time and time again. If you use Facebook, you have to set it up each time.

Q: 7. Can I live-stream video to some platforms (Wowza, Facebook, ...) without your bonding ( like other encoders: VidiU Pro, Broadcaster Pro, ... ) ?

A: Yes, The LRT (which includes bonding) can be disabled. To do so click the toggle switch Labeled LRT . This can be located by click the orange destination cloud under the Modes tab. This will allow the unit to operate in Direct RTMP mode which will only utilize one connection and send the RTMP stream directly to your destination.

Q: 8. Can you record into the SD card? if Yes, what are the processes?

A: Yes, the LiveU Solo has a microSD slot for recording in H.264: 1280 x 720 to 1920 x 1080 at 24p, 25p, 30p, 50i, 50p, 59.94i, and 60p,

Q: 9. Can an external battery be used? Also, can this unit work while charging the unit?

A: Hi Brian, Yes, you can use an external battery accessory with the unit and it can work while charging. Thank you for your question.

Q: 10. Whats in the box? Does it come with the AC adaptor for non bundle package?

A: An AC power adapter is included in the box.

[16x HDMI Female] This is a professional equipment to keep your connection stable during livestream! You can have two connections for redundancy to avoid loose of signal. 100% recommended.

[16x HDMI Female] Bought this and its matching tx. They seem pretty good. You can select different definitions, FHD, HD, SD, and then can assign them to the 3 types, and allocate bit rates for each. Eg you can select HD, send that to SD and a bit rate of 800 and FHD to HD and a bit rate of 2000 etc. It then selects the resolution type, eg 720P. The only limitation I find a bit strange is that the full range of resolutions, are not available all the time. They vary what is available depending on the Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz of the incoming HDMI. I am using 60Hz, and this does not have 1080i, but if I was using 50Hz, then 1080i would be included.
60Hz has 480i, 480P, 720P, 1080P.
50Hz has 576i, 576P, 720P, 1080P, 1080i.
The other strange thing I notice is that if I select a bit rate of 800Kbps, and then monitor the link at the IP level, it seems to be using about 3.5Mbps.
However, for quality and ease of use, these seem to be great devices.

[16x HDMI Female] Using with the 4kQuad-4Channel and this works reliably in a 24/7 environment. 1080i59.94 and 1080p30 sources. I'm using with the internal SFP port and not the built in network. It's a little bit funky to get it to swap between the two, but once it's set, it says there.

[Yes] Bought this to provide better video stream than my JVC GY LS300's RTSP feed (it has a big delay and sketchy feed). This is magnificent uncompressed quality. Already have a NewTek connect Spark, but this makes production a breeze. Been using it with a Church client's live stream and convinced them to go with Bird Dog products. They're not gonna regret it.

[Yes] The Osprey is quite versatile and reliable. We have purchased dozens of the G1 & G2 encoders for use throughout numerous facilities in our extensive network. Our primary use is for multicasting, but we also do a number of unicasts and YouTube streams.
Osprey tech support is so helpful and knowledgeable, which is another huge selling point.
We have used numerous other manufacturers products (HaiVision, Evertz, Ensemble Design, and Lynx). All of them work fine but Osprey offered the best quality and reliability for the price.

[20 to 80%] Almost any camcorder produced before 2018 doesn't have NDI capabilities but with the addition of the Birddog Mini, you can make a leap into the world of networked video without any heavy lifting.

Excellent choice for any church or school that needs to stream video but doesn't want to incur the cost of wiring for video. Any HDMI source can be plugged into the Mini and using a local network, connected to a computer with a streaming application such as vMix or OBS. No capture card necessary - it just works.

This is a device that needs to be in the toolbox of any serious videographer.
