Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would it work for SmartLav+ to Zoom H6 XLR inputs?

A: Yes it will but you will need to get an adapter for your SmartLav as the connector on the SmartLav is a TRRS. In order for you to use the XLR Power Converter you will need an adapter to change the lav connector from TRRS to TRS. This is the B&H part number for the adapter B&H#ROSC3. Once your TRRS becomes a TRS them you can use the XLR power converter with the H6.

Q: 2. If I want to connect my Røde videomicro to a recorder or mixer with an XLR input should I use this and switch on phantom power or will a dummy 3.5mm to XLR suffice without phantom power?

A: The VideoMicro does require plugin power. So yes, you will use the VXLR Plus to convert Phantom to Plugin.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with balanced or unbalanced XLR?

A: The VXLR+ is designed to convert high voltage phantom power used with pro balanced XLR mic inputs into much lower bias voltage (plug-in power) that is needed by many unbalanced electret condenser mics like lavalier mics and shotgun style camera mics.

Q: 4. Will this work with VC1 3.5mm 10' Extension cable that requires a plugin power or do I need VXLR Pro ?

A: Yes the Rode VC1 extension cable will work with the Rode VXLR+ adapter.

Q: 5. Is this adapter fully compatible with Sennheiser ME2 lapel mics?

A: Yes, it works with the ME2. The VXLR-Plus is the perfect alternative to going wireless. So I nstead of connecting the ME2 to the G3 wireless transmitter, simply connect your ME2 (or most other 3.5mm lapels) to the Rode VXLR-Plus and you have a hard-wired connection. Just make sure that the device you are connecting the VXLR-Plus to (i.e. your camera or recorder), has 48 volt phantom power enabled and you should be good to go.

Q: 6. Can someone describe what is connected to each 1/8 in. connection (tip. ring, sleeve) in terms of signal, power, and ground? (This would help to answer a lot of other questions.)

A: The specific TRS input wiring schematic is not available for the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, however we can confirm that the VXLR+ is compatible with microphones using the 3.5mm "Sennheiser" wiring configuration for compatibility. This adapter is not compatible with microphones wired for compatibility with Sony input connections.

Q: 7. Hello. I have the f3 zoom. Is this adapter necessary with phanton power??? because the f3 has the option to give phantom power. I don't understand very well what it would be used for

A: The RODE VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter would be used when you have a lavalier microphone with a 3.5mm connector, and you want to connect it to an XLR input. Lavalier microphones require a certain type of power, which is different from the 48v phantom power provided by XLR audio recorders. This adapter can convert that 48v phantom power to the special plugin power the lavalier needs. Compatibility will depend on the specific model of your lavalier.

Q: 8. Hoping this works with a Rode Videomicro which has a male mini jack with two rings?

A: Not a combo I would try. Reason? The VideoMicro is depending on the camera for external power. Not the sort of power it is going to get through the VXLR adapter. You need to think in terms of mics that have their own power.

Q: 9. Will this work with the Deity W lav Pro (that is, instead of the similar Deity adapter)? Thanks!

A: This adapter should work with the mini jack connection provided in the W lav kit.

Q: 10. I have a pair of rode videomicros (requires plugin power) and a pair of wireless lavaliers. I will be using them interchangeably depending on the project. I want to get 2 of this item because the videomicro requires power but I need to know if it will still pass the signal without phantom power because the lavaliers don't need plugin power?

A: Yes, this will pass audio without power.

[0.635 lb] Want to know the secret to looking like a professional?

Hint: It's to use cables that aren't black.

It doesn't matter what mic or recorder you have, if you are using boring black cables, people will judge you.

A neon-green XLR cable is like having a Matte Box for your camera. Sure it isn't doing too much, but holy cow, are you a professional? Look at how professional all of this gear looks?

Get ready to lease a 1-bedroom apartment in LA, because we are moving to Hollywood after you use these bad boys.

Look like a pro, use a cable with a color to accent your equipment.
