The RODE Blimp Windshield and Rycote Shock Mount Systemfrom RODE Blimp Windshield and Rycote Shock Mount Systemis designed to provide your shotgun microphone with protection from wind noise and isolation from shock and vibration. It fits the Rode NTG1, NTG2, NTG3, NTG4, NTG4+, NTG5, and any shotgun mic up to 12.75" in length.

The Blimp attaches to any standard boompole with the 3/8" thread attachment at the base. Housed inside the grip is a Mogami microphone cable which splits via a junction box to a flexible thin cable inside the Blimp, to minimize the transference of vibration to the microphone.

A: Yes. If you are attaching it to a studio Mike stand you will need an adapter. Rode makes one for 10 bucks.

A: While the Rycote Super-Blimp NTG5 Windshield Kit for Rode NTG5 Microphone is designed for a 19mm diameter microphone such as the Rode NTG5, its lyres may stretch to accommodate a 23mm diameter microphone such as the Oktava MK-012-01.

A: Aiden, I hope I can help a bit... I can tell you about the blimp and tell you it's the best I've found for outdoor recording especially on windy day. I have tried 5-10 different Foam/Fur wind blockers there are. None of them work in a 10+ MPH direct wind. The Capsule makes the difference! Your Mic mounts to the Capsule frame via two Shock Mounts. This alone is a great use even before you slide the Capsule on the frame. There is no less than 2 of air space from the Mic Body and the fully indirect capsule now surrounding your Mic, there still a full Faux Fur cover for even more separation! A real winning combination! If there's a better solution I've not found it in the last 25 years...

Q: 9. How many inches long is the windshield - I have a shotgun mic (Azden SMG 2x) that is 10 inches long? Will this windshield cover it?

A: This windshield is actually just the cover. Its is not a shell. It was specifically designed for the rode blimp. It is possible that this cover might fit over a different shell but if you just have the shotgun mic then no. It won't. You'll need the ride blimp as well.

Q: 10. What must I plug the mic into so I'm portable inside out. I'm just starting out

A: This item acts as a shock mount to protect a condenser mic from vibrations, and as windscreen that fits a variety of Rode brand shotgun microphones. The blimp includes a a short XLR pigtail cable for connecting the mic cable to a boom pole with ease. I am not sure what type of scenario you will be using the mic for, but generally a shotgun mic would attach to a boom pole and be aimed at talent to pick up isolated dialog. The mic would be connected directly into a camera, or into a field mixer/recorder.

[Gray] Excellent blimp! Perhaps a little larger than necessary, but just fits length-ways into carry-on flight case. The XLR cable that runs through the handle is removable, which is great as we use it with a Sennheiser MKH-416-P48U3 shotgun mic with a Sennheiser SKP 500 G4 Pro Wireless Plus-On Transmitter attached to it. The handle attached nicely to our Rode 10ft carbon fiber boom pole. 5

[3/8"-16 Female] The wind deadening ability of this thing is fantastic, I live in a windswept part of the world, outside recording was a impossibility until getting this. It's very comfortable to by used handheld and is not so heavy on the end of a boom pole. 5

[3/8"-16 Female] If you are looking at this you have decided that a "dead cat" is not enough. We own two of these now and have been using them for 7-8 years. They have great features, durable and get the job done. They are like magic when it comes to dealing with wind, you won't be disappointed.. the only thing better is no wind! 5

[Gray] Received and tried out with the dead wombat cover attached during sustained wind of 20 mph with both Rode NTG4+ and Sennheiser MKE600 microphones. Performance was impressive with very little to no wind noise recorded, depending on microphone position relative to actual wind direction. I probably will not film with wind this high, but the Rode blimp performed admirably in the test. Actual construction is very light and seems fragile, but it comes with a 10 year warranty. This speaks well for Rode durability. No carrying case, but it seems to do the job for which it is intended. All good so far. 5
