Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this support both portrait and landscape orientations on a 3 way head?

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff Mobile Phone Clamp with Dovetail Jaw BH #RECLMPWTHDOV supports both portrait and landscape mode.

Q: 2. What range of focal lengths does this work with?

A: It would depend on the physical length of the lens and camera. You don't want the rail to be much longer than the lens that it would appear in the photo and also not too small that you won't be able to find the nodal of the lens. Really Right Stuff MPR-CL Rail with Integral Clamp (5.7") will fit well a lens and camera that measures about 5.7 inches.

Q: 3. CAN this be used as a macro rail?

A: It could be used as a macro rail, but since you would have to loosen and re position by hand it would not be as precise as a rail designed for use as a macro rail like this Manfrotto https://bhpho.to/2xWM0hO.

Q: 4. Is the Really Right Stuff MPR-192 & Mini-Clamps Package the same as the 192 PPP sold on RRS website?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 5. How is camera twist prevented when using this product? The anti-twist feature does not work.

A: This is meant to be used with RRS plates with the lip to prevent any sort of lens twist. On a larger lens foot with two 1/4'-20 screw holes, you can put in both screws to prevent twist.

Q: 6. Does this come with 1 or 2 3/8”screws? Photos show 2 but the description says 1

A: This plate comes with 2x 3/8" screws.

Q: 7. What is the accessory seen in the 4th picture of the product? Looks like a macro rail adapter but I could not find any information about it.

A: That is a part that RRS does not make any more. And you can use many other rails with that as it is Arca-Swiss style connection.

Q: 8. Cant get the clamps to rotate. Loosed the screw and it still won't work? Any ideas?

A: Once you loosen the screw with the hex key one full rotation, then pull clamps apart. Rotate 90 degrees, seat back together, and tighten the screw.

Q: 9. Does it work for Canon EF 100-400 mm lens?

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff 6" Multi-Purpose Rail (1/4"-20) is compatible with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens.

Q: 10. Is that with new rrs logo?

A: This will be the latest product available from RSS.

[1.65 lb] It’s RRS, well made and substantial as expected.

[Black] Works just like it's supposed to. The build quality is excellent, typical of RRS. It's easy to calibrate the lenses and negate parallax.

[Black] I am using this to hold a Canon G7X Mark III and I have added to it the RRS QR Mount and RRS Cold Shoe this allows me to add an off camera microphone. Then this bundle is held on a tripod with a arca-swiss ball head. Rock solid at all points of contact. Fully trustable and overkill for this setup but you get what you pay for and then some.

[1.65 lb] Build quality is perfect but the larger 7.4” rail is likely a better option for 99% of dslr users (I returned this and ordered the 7.4”). I bought this 5.7” because I wanted to use it for panoramas with my Sigma 14mm 1.8 art lens and the rrs online video recommended the shorter plate for ultra wide angle lenses but given that the nodal point of those lenses are right near the front optic, I ran out of plate for the clamp to hold before I could get the nodal point. The 7.4” clamp will not get in the way of the wide image unless you have a very short ultrawide angle like the Old Nikon 14mm 2.8 prime. Most ultrawide zooms are long enough that the longer one will not interfere.

[1.65 lb] The markings are easy to read, also easy to setup and use in conjunction with a panoramic gimbal head.

[Black] You get RRS because everything in the RRS line is beautifully manufactured and of the highest quality. Itâ€s a solid piece and the engravings are etched legibly and very importantly the location of the bubble-level is smartly placed where it can be seen with a camera attached. (Not the case for many other alternative rails out there.)
This piece works perfectly for me being both an adapter for using a new gimbal head with my RRS L-bracket as well as for quickly identifying the so-called “nodal point setup for shooting panoramic stitched photos.
The RRS website has the best information about finding the “nodal point for any camera and lens — as well as sharing the actual nodal point measurement for several dozen camera and lens combinations using this rail! They make it so easy.
