Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do I need this adaptor to connect a Rodelink receiver to my zoom h5?

A: Also, to connect your Rodelink receiver, you will need a Kramer 3.5mm Male to 3.5mm Male Stereo Audio Cable (25') you can find here on B&H, or something similar, to channel your data from the receiver to the recorder.

Q: 2. Can I use this for plugging my trrs headphones on a regular trs output device?

A: Yes, the Rode SC3 3.5mm TRRS Female to 3.5mm TRS Male Adapter can be used to convert the TRRS plug on your headphones to TRS to enable compatibility with the standard TRS audio output on a device,

Q: 3. What's the purpose of this adapter?

A: This adapter is made specifically to adapt a SmartLav+ or similar mic made for mobile devices, and allow it to connect to a camera or any other device with standard TRS 3.5mm mic input.

Q: 4. Is this what you need to connect your smart lav from RODE to your Osmo Pocket?

A: Not sure what the Osmo pocket is . I used this to connect an extension to my Rode Laviler mic

Q: 5. Is there a longer version of this cable? Or a way to extend? I'm trying to use this with DJI Osmo Mobile and it is too short and restricts the movement of the gimbal.

A: I use this with the regular Osmo where the phone is the monitor. Unfortunately, I think any cable you try and use directly with the phone on the gimbal is not going to work because it will mess up the balance, even if it is longer.

Q: 6. will this work with a Camera as well? Particularly a Sony Mirrorless microphone input?

A: This cable is specifically made to take a typical TRS 3.5mm mic and convert it to connect to a TRRS mic input on a mobile device. It would not be appropriate to connect this adapter cable to a camera, and I cannot guarantee that it will work for that purpose.

Q: 7. Can this be used with Android devices such as Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy Tab S2?

A: Yes it can be use.

Q: 8. Can this be connected to Rode VideoMic Me to use on cameras?

A: Yes it should

Q: 9. There are numerous comments about it working with iOS devices but will it work with Android, specifically Galaxy S9?

A: Technically this should work with Android phones that sport a TRRS jack. Androids are a bit less standardized, so it may be a bit finiky in terms of app compatibility. See other Android related comments on this Q/A platform about this cable.

Q: 10. To use this cable with a modern iphone, you must use the apple lightning adapter (no 3.5mm jack in an iphone) - is this a barrier? I am getting no sound when recording video with an iphone, and since this is supposed to work with iOS, I assume the adapter is the issue? If so, are we expected to use iphones from 8 years ago for this to work?

A: The SC7 cable has 3.5mm TRS and 3.5mm TRRS connectors. The TRRS connector is compatible for use with mobile devices and can be combined with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP) to connect with iPhones that use a Lightning port. For iPads and Android devices that have a USB-C port, the SC7 can be combined with the Apple USB Type-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APMU7E2AMA). When the SC7 was originally introduced, Apple was still using a 3.5mm TRRS jack on the iPhone and the cable does work with Android devices that use TRRS. If you want to use one cable to connect directly from a 3.5mm TRS output to a Lightning port, you can use the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Audio Cable (B&H # APLMADAP) or Comica Audio CVM-D-SPX(MI) 3.5mm TRS Male to Lightning Output Cable for Audio to iPhone (B&H # COCVMDSPXMI). Both will allow recording from an external microphone or wireless mic system.
