Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The specs for this tripod says the Closed Length is 21.1" / 53.6 cm. Is this correct? I want to put in my carry on luggage bag.

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff TVC-34 Versa Series 3 Mk2 Carbon Fiber Tripod is 21.1 inches when folded/collapsed to its smallest size and without a head attached.

Q: 2. I already have a BH-40 ballhead. If I wanted to get the Ascend-14-PF or the Ascend-14L-PF, for travel and use the MPR-192 nodal slide, would I then also have to add in a PC-LR (or PC-PRO) to work with my BH-40 to do panoramas? Or is there another ballhead with a leveling base to use?

A: The BH-40 has a panning base with engraved degree marks that could be used for panoramas, but a panning clamp like the PC-LR would be more precise. Very few heads have built-in leveling bases, but we have several leveling bases available for sale.

Q: 3. Is Acratech GPX compatible with the Ascend-14 tripod? The suggested ball heads include Acratech GP. Thank you!

A: Yes. The Acratech GXP (https://bhpho.to/3zKcaT4) would work with the Ascend-14! In this case, the ballhead's strength exceeds the overall capacity of the tripod, so be aware that the legs will be the less stable part of this combination.

Q: 4. How tall is this with the center collum down ?

A: The Really Right Stuff Ascend-14 Long Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod has a 60.3" (153.2 cm) max height without the center column.

Q: 5. what is the diameter/size than the Ascend-14's mounting platform? want to mount acratech and flm ball heads

A: The diameter of the Ascend platform is 1.6"/40mm. Many heads will be larger, but that is fine. Most heads will still attach and work very well.

Q: 6. Would RRS Ascend 14L legs and an Aratech GP Ballhead make for a combo? Would head fit to platform well? Could the combo handle a Nikon D500 w/ 500 F5.6 PF lens easily? What might be the upper limit of lenses for this combination?

A: Yes this would be a great combo, the head would fit to the platform well, it could easily handle a D500 with 500mm PF, and the largest lens that you could safely hold according to the specs would be almost any of them!

Q: 7. I'm looking to buy leg wraps - what is the widest diameter of the legs?

A: The leg diameters on the Really Right Stuff TVC-34 Versa Series 3 Mk2 Carbon Fiber Tripod, are 36.7mm top leg diameter/ 33 / 28.5 / 24.7mm. Lenscoat recommends this one, https://bhpho.to/35sR4i5

Q: 8. Is this compatible with the bh-30 or bh-40?

A: Yes, the RRS BH-30 or BH-40 would be fine to use with the Ascend-14 Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod.

Q: 9. Can you remove the integrated ballhead and purchase a platform separately (if so, which one?) to use with a BH30?

A: An integrated ball head is not included with the purchase of the Really Right Stuff Ascend-14 Long Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod. The Really Right Stuff Ascend-14 Long Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod would be the tripod legs only; a ball head (or other tripod head) would have to be purchased as a separate accessory.

Q: 10. Would the gitzo series 3 center column work on this tripod? I like the gitzo option better because it's CF/magnesium.

A: The Gitzo columns are not compatible with the RRS tripods. The Really Right Stuff TVC-34 Versa Series 3 Mk2 Carbon Fiber Tripod can only use the RRS TA-3-QC which is sold directly by RRS: https://bhpho.to/40gSPY6

[5.26 lb] This tripod was a life-changer! I recently attended a photography workshop in the Lofoten Islands of Norway and my instructor had a RRS TVC-33. I was envious the whole time. This tripod, although not inexpensive, is very easy to use and is extremely stable! I had a cheap, rickety tripod, and it did not stand up to the strong gale winds of Norway. I made this order as soon as I returned to the USA and have enjoyed it ever since.

[Twist Lock] Pound for Pound, no other tripod comes close to offering the performance that the Ascend-14 offers. The stiffness of the legs, quality of the hardwear and the innovative center column all add up to making this the best tripod I have ever used. I mainly use a spotting scope, namely a Kowa 773 or 883 from this tripod. I also shoot a rifle from it, mounting a RRS Anvil-30 head directly to the tripod, using a washer and stainless bolt, without the center column.

[Carbon Fiber] Absolutely love this tripod. It's been everywhere with me and taken lots of abuse. The thick carbon tubes are super lights but super strong. A blessing when carrying my heavy 600mm f/4 and my pro Nikon Z9

[XLR 3-Pin] This tripod is very stable when I have my Nikon D5 / Nikon 500mm f4 attached to a sidekick on a BH-55 ball head. I started noticing my camera vibrate when attached to my other tripod (using live view magnified) I wasn't even touching the rig. With the RRS TVC-34 it was solid. I like how it can be raised for my viewing without bending and still be stable. It is a little heavy but I transport it using my ATV 4x4 to get back into the area where I do most of my work. This was an excellent purchase.

[Twist Lock] The tripod is very strong and vibration-free, even on a windy day. It supports my camera with a large telephoto lens (the Sony 200-600mm) on a gimbal head and I can take sharp, long exposure, night time photos of the skyline of Manhattan very easily. I highly recommend this tripod.

[XLR 3-Pin] It is light, strong and stable. The carbon fiber dampens vibration, and the size, height and weight serve me well. It is not the least expensive, but If you want to only buy one tripod in your lifetime, skip the rest and just get this one.

[Twist Lock] This tripod is very sturdy with no vibrations that ruin long exposures. It is the perfect height (I am 5' 10) fully extended. It should have came with the carry bag though at this price.

[4] I did a lot of research and finally decided to go with the RRS TVC-34 Mk 2. I also decided on the RRS BH55 Ball head, the RRS TA3 leveling
base , and the Wimberly SideKick. It was a major investment, but in my opinion worth it, as this is a lifetime setup. Each one of these products are 100% performers as advertised. I must complement B & H for their quick and well packaged delivery. The payboo card tax free method is very refreshing. I will recommend B & H to anyone interested in quality Photography Equipment.

[4] As a working professional, my gear needs to stand-up to the abuse of traveling often, shooting everyday, and dealing with the elements i expose my equipment to regularly. I've owned the RRS BH-55 ball head for almost a decade now and it's a tank. Still works just as good as the day i bought it. Buying a tripod is definitely not a sexy purchase equipment wise so I put off spending serious money on a tripod and instead focused on glass. Big mistake! After destroying 3 professional tripods from other brands in 3 years that weren't cheap, i finally decided to buy this tripod that I've wanted for years. This thing is worth every penny. It's stiff and keeps the camera rock solid. The twist knobs work perfectly with just a quick quarter turn, and it's super lightweight! I highly recommend it!
