A: The OWC 8TB miniStack USB 3.1 Gen 1 External Hard Drive BH #OWCMSTK3H7T8 does not include a USB C cable but you could adapt it to USB C. It is compatible with the Mac Studio.

Q: 2. Do I need a backup replacement drive available in case one of the 4 drives fails so I can do a fast recovery to full operations? If so what would I order?

A: It is always best to have a spear drive just in case. This Buffalo DriveStation Quad 24TB 4-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Array (4 x 6TB) would be able to support the Buffalo 6TB 3.5" HDD found here ---- https://bhpho.to/3slXbMY .BH #BUOPHD60QH • MFR #OP-HD6.0QH

Q: 3. Can the drive be replaced with any sata drive?

A: If you want to use your own 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drive, I would recommend buying the empty enclosure version of the OWC miniStack USB 3.2 Gen 1 Storage : https://bit.ly/48Xs5zg If you do buy the OWC miniStack USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive with a drive installed (https://bit.ly/3SLAzDP available as 1 TB, 2 TB, 8 TB, 12 TB, 16 TB, 18 TB, or 20 TB), opening the enclosure voids the OWC warranty. Instructions for installing or replacing a drive are available on pages 5-7 of the manual here: https://bit.ly/49lOpT8

Q: 7. I am looking for an external storage solution (just like this item) that i can plug into both my windows pc and mac laptop via usb, and just access the unit as a storage drive. Am looking to use it regularly to store my photography library (store all the photos and use adobe softwares using pictures that are on the external unit). Is this the best unit for this, or is a different unit recommended?

A: Ari,I can only speak to this unit. The Qx2 can be moved between platforms if properly configured, but you cannot have them plugged in simultaneously.

Q: 8. Why are the specifications hidden?

A: This is a new item that we have added to our website, and we are slowly adding the specs to the item page.

Q: 9. As of now 2021 does this raid system come with 2 4TB HDD drives of 7200rpm?

A: The two 4TB hard drives in this OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual 8TB 2-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 2 RAID Array with 3-Port Hub would be 7200 RPM.

Q: 10. Will this drive work to edit 6K prores video footage?

A: The OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual 32TB 2-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 2 RAID Array with 3-Port Hub will have USB-3.2. I would recommend that this can be used for editing assuming that your computer has USB-C 3.2 as well. Otherwise, it will not be to your advantage.

[2x Proprietary] Drive worked nicely. The RAID utility was minimal and easy to use.

[1 x 350 W] Changing RAID modes on this box in quick and painless with the included RAID configuration utility. The device includes backup software but I prefer to use Macrium Reflect. In RAID 0 mode the drive can easily sustain over 120 MB (mega BYTEs not megabits) per second on a capable hosted server over USB 3.0 It is likely even faster over USB 3.1. When I outgrow this I will be buying a newer larger version starting with Buffalo's products. The B & H purchase was awesome as usual!

[2x Proprietary] After getting bogged down Transcoding files for clients I needed a super fast working drive on which I could dump frles and transcode jobs at lightning fast speeds. What surprised me is just how fast it is to copy files to and from the drive. 160gb in just over a minute and a half.
Amazing.
It's expensive but the time it saves me is worth every penny.

[16 TB] In RAID 5 configuration, this drive does the job of archiving my images. It is so quiet that you hardly know it is operating. So far, very happy with its performance.

[2x Proprietary] The setup was quick and easy (Raid 5 out of the box), drive speeds seem good. I have this attached to a media PC to play HD/4K material to a projector and it's handling that with zero problems (serves as storage for my Plex server). It gets moved back and forth between PC's frequently and no issues with that either. When I fill it up I plan on getting a second one assuming no issues crop up.

[1 x 350 W] I was struggling to get any sort of multicam editing done on Final Cut Pro X using a 2017 MacBook Pro. Though this was an investment, I decided to upgrade to this instead of an entirely new computer for now, and I'm super glad I did. The build quality, the performance, and the ease-of-use is second to none. The pelican-style case is a nice addition as well for when editing on the go happens.

The most important question isn't whether or not to get this, but to decide what size best fits your workflow. For me the 2TB was sufficient as I only work on one project at a time. I could see upgrading to another larger one later if that changes.

[2x Proprietary] It might be a bit pricey, but it's a lot of fast storage that you can easily carry around. It holds about 10TB of virtual instruments for me and I love its portability. Seems very rugged as well.

[16 TB] This OWC 16TB ThunderBlade RAID drive replaced a 24TB Promise Pegasus RAID and I'm never going back to HDD drives. The Promise could be heard from the other rooms in the house, while the ThunderBlade is completely silent, even when working right next to it on the desk. It's also a LOT smaller. I suggest removing the OWC soft raid software which has caused issues for us in the past. We have the drive formatted as RAID 0 directly in Sonoma 14.3 running on our Mac Studio M1 Ultra. SSDs are a lot more reliable than HDD so I'm more comfortable running these in RAID 0 vs another RAID. However, SSD is not a replacement for a backup, and I have this drive being backed up onto my old HDD once a month.

[16 TB] Using mainly for active Final Cut projects ! Couldn't be happier. The speed of drive keeps up with ever increasing .mov file sizes from newest cameras. No more crashes in FCX ! Love the compact form factor.

[16 TB] Item came packaged better than any drive I have ever received. It is built well and easy to set up. From there, performance is as expected, fast and reliable.
