Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is the L-mount side? Any play or looseness? For example, I have tried both the Sigma MC-31 and the Fotodiox Pro and while the Sigma is very snug on the L-mount side, the Fotodiox is loose and sloppy. How does the Wooden Camera version compare?

A: The adapter is a bit lighter and thinner than some others but does seem to be very good. And it comes with universal support foot. I would suggest using that to help relieve stress on the Camera lens mount. Especially with heavy lenses.

Q: 2. Will it work with BM Pocket 4k ?

A: Yes, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K uses an MFT mount so it is compatible with the FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Arri PL to MFT Adapter.

Q: 3. What PL lenses does it fit? Does it have the same problem as the PL to EF adapter? My guess is that it would work with more lenses due to the mirrorless factor.

A: You can use any PL lens with this adapter. There are no compatibility issues.

Q: 4. Is it perfect for Fuji camera x-t3?

A: Yes you could use it to mount Arri PL lenses on a Fuji X-T3.

Q: 5. Does this adapter work on the Sony FS7?To the one reviewer that said it doesn't work, did you try rotating the lens?

A: The Sony FS7 is E-mount so this is compatible.

Q: 6. How compatible is this mount with CP3 lenses using BMPCC 6KPRO ?

A: It would be best to use the PL adapter from Wooden Camera. Although other lenses may work with this adapter, only the lenses below have been tested for proper operation. Canon 20-35mm T4 Ruby 14-24mm T2.8 Angenieux Optimo 15-40 mm T 2.6 Angenieux Optimo 17-80 mm T 2.2 Angenieux Optimo 28-70 mm Angenieux Optimo 24-290 mm Angenieux 24-290 mm T 2.8 Angenieux 17-102 mm T 2.9 Angenieux 7-81 mm T 2.4 HR Angenieux 20-120 mm Canon 300 mm T 2.8 Canon 400 mm T 2.8 Canon 800 mm T 5.6 Canon Century 200 mm T 2 Cooke 18-100 mm T 3 Nikkor 200 mm T 2 Nikkor 300 mm T 2 Nikkor 800 mm T 5.6 Nikkor Micro 200 mm T4 Canon Century Optics S2000 150-600mm

Q: 7. Does this come with a front PL cap and a rear Fuji mount cap?

A: Mine didn't come with any.

Q: 8. Any chance to work with Red Pro Primes?

A: It should work with any PL lens, but I can say from personal experience that it works with my RED 50-150 zoom, RED 300 prime, and Sony PL primes, Zeiss PL zooms, and many others.

Q: 9. Does this adapter work on the Sony A7SII with Sony PL Primes?

A: I have no idea but it works well on my Sony fs7

Q: 10. Does this adaptor work for PL prime lenses? The Fotodiox PL to EF does not.Does this cover full frame on the Sony A7S or just APS-C like the Metabones PL to E mount?

A: I've used this adapter with several PL mount lenses, they have all fit just fine (Cabrio 19-90, Cooke S4i, UltraPrime, Canon 17-120, and others). Be sure to properly support the lens since both the soft aluminum of the Fotodiox mount adapter as well as the E-Mount itself are prone to flexing.

[Brass] Having dealt with adapters over many years, you know that nothing comes close to a PL mount (don't get me started on positive lock EF, not even close... plus even Canon has kicked EF to the curb). LPL now takes PL and makes it literally bigger and better. For whatever reason, changing PL lenses always took a while to get it to sit in perfect for the lock to work, but so far with LPL it's been a piece of cake every time. Maybe that's an added bonus thanks to the rear guide? Anyhow, you may be thinking well the LPL to L is still a click-in adapter to the camera body. Correct, but Ron has created a collar that allows you to bolt the collar down to a plate along with the camera cage, then tighten the collar on the adapter and it's not moving. To be honest, even without the collar, these mounts are super accurate, so very little play with them to start with, but the collar just locks everything down tight. I always hated when using a follow focus (especially a focus motor) and every time you made an adjustment it shifted the lens in the mounts. Even the tiniest bit of movement showed up in the shot, so when you have two weak points, you get a lot of movement when you throw in some torque. With this setup, any movement between the lens and camera is now completely gone. I bought 4 LPL to L mounts and collars, instantly you should realize that is a big investment, but 100% worth it. Every time I use them, they make me happy, so thank you Ron and crew for continuing to push this industry forward!!

[Sony E] If you're like me, you keep looking at the cost of this one, vs the cost of all the others. This one is worth it. Well made, tight fit, flocking on the inside, shims if needed, and a great case to put it all in.

[Brass] I own (and love) my newer Blackmagic Design 6k camera with full frame sensor and Leica L mount. I also have a number of wonderful new and old Zeiss PL mount fixed cinema lenses. (18mm - 200mm) So when I saw this adapter for sale at B&H, along with a good review of it, I took the plunge. I am not disappointed.

With this adapter, a fairly heavy Zeiss lens with ARRI PL mount, like their CP.2 25mm for example, hangs off the Blackmagic camera with no discernible wiggle. The lens goes on and off a bit tight, but hey, that's what I wanted. It looks great too, with excellent machining and black surface coating.

Note that — nothing to do with this excellent adapter itself — my oldest 1970s vintage Zeiss Super-16 lenses, while still producing great images, do vignette at the image corners, from 9mm to 16mm when the Blackmagic camera is set to FF 6k, exactly as I expected. But I could not have verified that without this Simmod adapter. Note also that simply changing the Blackmagic camera setting to capture a more restrictive Super-35 4k size, allowed more of my older PL mount Super-16 lenses to be used. The lens coating on those older Zeiss is not quite as nice as the newer CP.2 or CP.3 but still hard to see much difference in most lighting conditions. Again, this Simmod adapter allowed me to test all this.
