Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the tightening knob head extend below the base level of the clamp? I'd like to attach it to the top of leveling head DYH-66i. It would have to be screwed in by rotating this clamp. Bubble level of 66i does not allow attachment of clamps by rotating them into the center screw if their tightening knob extend below the bottom level of clamp.

A: Yes, the knob drops below the clamp by about 2mm. You can try using a tripod spacer like the one below; https://bhpho.to/39dgYEs or your better off get a clamp that is circular and the knob has clearance or a clamp with a lever; https://bhpho.to/2CGdONl

Q: 2. Two questions, really:1. Bill in GA wrote: It's being used to attach a Black Rapid strap to the camera so I can switch quickly from hand held to tripod. That sounds like precisely what I'd like to do, but I'm not actually sure I follow HOW this product helps Bill achieve that goal. How does the BlackRapid fastener fit into this equation, for instance? What am I missing..?2. I'm also planning on buying this clamp to replace the mini arca quick-release system on my MeFoto DayTrip tripod, in order to have consistent quick-release plates on all my tripods. So really, I'm just deciding whether I should buy one or two of these little guys. But I'd love to know if my plan for adapting my MeFoto tripod head won't work for any reason. Thanks!

A: Unfortunately, we are not sure what Bill in Georgia specifically is using, nor do we have the ability to inquire as to what type of setup he has made. However, Custom SLR produces a plate that is both Arca and Manfrotto compatible that would enable you to use a BlackRapid strap in conjunction with this clamp: http://bhpho.to/1tNH3SGAs for your second question regarding using this clamp with the MeFoto DayTrip, this is compatible.

Q: 3. Hi! If this is mounted vertically on a copy stand (for use as a "microscope" setup), would the action be smooth and precise, even at 4x magnification? It would be a working distance of about 10mm from microscope objective to subject. This would be a ≈5lb. camera/lens setup attached to this rail. If this isn't a suitable rail, could someone recommend one that would work well? Thank you!

A: Because it is a heavier camera and lens set up, I would probably not use this one unfortunately. The one that I would trust the most would be the following: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/554343-REG/Manfrotto_454_454_Micrometric_Positioning_Sliding.html Due to the fact that you can screw down a tension knob that very securely locks it into place. This would be the strongest one that I would recommend for a setup such as yours.

Q: 4. Would this take most camera quick plates

A: It does not. This is not a quick release assembly. This is a shoe mount.

Q: 5. Does this item include wedges or do they need to be purchased separately?

A: No. wedges are sold separately.

Q: 6. Has the screw knob for the "arca clamp" had its stem shortened? From your product images it appears so.

A: The knob on the clamps for Sunwayfoto Macro Focusing Rail with Screw-Knob Clamp is 26mm long. It looks like the image was taking on an angle which change the perspective of the knob.

Q: 7. Can this mount on top of Sunwayfoto DDP-64SiX Indexing Rotator? Any other mounting hardware needed?

A: Jiawei, B&H asked me to respond to your question. Most of my ArcaSwiss plates and clamps are from Sunwayfoto; I have found them to of excellent quality and a lot cheaper than the brand names. I do not own the DDP-64SiX. However, from its photo on the B&H website, I see no reason this clamp won't mount; I have a several of these that I have mounted on tripods and monopods with configurations similar to that on the rotator. One possible issue I can see is that the long knob on the clamp may interfere with the release lever on the rotator. I recommend you try it to find out if it's satisfactory for you. Hope this helps.

Q: 8. Will this work? I want to use the clamp side to go onto a c stand and the other side to attach to a 6'x6' diffusion. I want to be able to adjust the clamp to get certain angles. Hope this makes sense.

A: This clamp would not be ideal for that. It would be better to use a End jaw and Grip head.

Q: 9. Does it perform well with focus stacking?

A: Yes, this will work well for stacking and is a good alternative to the more expensive models.

Q: 10. I wanna use this on external monitor , what kind of 1/4 screw (up-Profile Knob) can fit to this ?

A: The Vello Universal Accessory Shoe Mount With 1/4" Screw and Knob can accommodate any 1/4"-20 screw.

[Aluminum, Steel] While the wingnut is still a little clunky, the overall form factor of this is very useful.

[Jaw] I have the older version of this and it's surprisingly useful. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I have found so many uses over the years for it.
