Elevate your mic signals with the RB-MA1 from Sonifex, a single-channel low-noise mic preamp that converts line-level to mic-level signals, ideal for stages or long cable runs. With a rugged metal chassis and recessed controls, the RB-MA1 is designed to withstand the rigors of backline use, studio work, and touring.

The RB-MA1 sports one electronically balanced XLR 3-pin female input and one balanced XLR output. The XLR output can be rewired to be unbalanced by grounding the nonphase pin, allowing for both balanced and unbalanced output. A recessed potentiometer allows for adjusting input gain from 36 to 75 dB, and DIP switches are provided for activating +48V phantom power and the 125 Hz high-pass filter. The AC input voltage can be selected for global compatibility, between 115 and 230 VAC.

Q: 4. What rating is the included AC adapter? Looking for an answer like "9V, 1.0A, positive polarity". Cannot read the pictures!

A: The Mackie M48 Single-Channel 48V Phantom Power Supply uses a +9V DC power adapter which is included with purchase. There is no information provided for the amperage rating, but the manufacturer does specify in the user manual to "Only use the factory-authorized power supply that came with the M48."

[130 dB] Solid build, absolute reliability & nice sounding pre-amp with plenty of quiet gain - as with all my SD gear! One of my favorite uses is to power a Sennheisser 416T mic. Can’t find T-power in affordable mixers nowadays so has kept this mic. alive. Also perfect tool for boom op. wanting easily adjustable monitoring.

[AC Input] TO be clear, I was sent one of these for my honest and unbiased review..........that being said...there is no reason to pay more. This is constantly on sale at 35, 40 bucks and it is clean and does exactly what it is supposed to do. If only people would get off the cloudlifter bandwagon. The cloudlifter is CRIMINALLY overpriced when you have options like this on the market. And its not JUST this that is cheaper and possible AS good...there are more...but this is my pick considering it is seemingly always available (unlike others) and it is never overpriced. Well done!

[Metal] The $30 preamps have noise and the good ones are $100 and up. This is perfectly placed. It's worth the $50, for sure. I thought 30dB gain was too much, but both the PC interface and the DAW software benefitted from tweaking their gain down. MY SE V7 is an amazing voiceover mic now, and would be a fantastic podcaster mic.

[AC Input] I had to crank the mic gain all the way up, now I don't! $30 well spent.

[+28 dBu] Works as advertised, very pleased. I tried it with my Electro-Voice 635A handheld mic, which does not have power or audio adjustment settings, so it's levels are often too low. This Polsen inline XLR preamp boosted my volume from the mic and did not cause any noise or distortion from what I can tell. If you look at the pictures I uploaded, you can see the difference in volume with and without this preamp. As you can see it was pretty significant. This will be handy when I need to boost the volume without raising the gain internally in the camera. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

[Red] I'm just...WOW!!! The gain this device provides is more than you'll ever need on a dynamic mic.

I'm using a Sennheizer MD-42 dynamic as the testing mic, I don't use it often because it needs a lot of gain. It works well on high end recorders, but for using it on a camera, the mic is just ok...It never satisfied me until I tried the XP-30D. This preamp allows much less gain on the recorder or your camera. And it's a LOT of GAIN!! Maybe too much in some cases, for example, on a Tascam DR-100 MKII recorder.

I used a Tascam DR-100 Mark III recorder for this experiment.

Now, I have to set the gain so Low, resulting in a super clean and hiss free audio, like most decent Condenser mics do.

After plugging in the XP-30D, adjusting the gain to minimum wasn't enough. Additionally, on the DR100 MKIII recorder, I had to turn on the PAD filter on my recorder, then adjust the gain, WAY low!

Further next, I also tested it on a Canon C100Mark II. These cameras have terrible preamps, and adding the MD-42 mic makes things even worse.

I plugged the XP-30D in, turned on phantom power on the C100 MKII, and the gain was awesome!

Please make sure you see the pictures I included in this review. It shows everything you want to see.

If you're looking for a powerful preamp, look no further. It's insanely powerful.

The only thing I didn't like is, when plugging the mic, the XLR "input" PLUG from the XP-30D makes the mic connection a little lose... I tried is also with another 3 mics. Same.

However, the slightly loose connection I will NOT make noises or anything that would ruin your presentation or recording even if you touch the plug. It's just a little loose and I thought it is worth mentioning...

Before I plugged it in for the first time I used it, I expected a snug fit like all XLRs do. Other than that, this thing REALLY does the job!!

[Red] I was honestly expecting a somewhat noisy preamp for $50....but...this was not the case. Not only did the polsen not color the audio, it was also very quiet while providing a great amount of clean gain. Devices like this are the reason the cloud lifter is overpriced. Great device....great price

[130 dB] Got this for my boom Op. Easy setup and great sturdy design. The XLR line out connection is hard to disconnect. It's just at an awkward angle, but it has a firm connection.
