[0.43 lb] Been using this lens on my Black Magic 6k Full frame and it's amazing. Because of the ability to shoot 4k DCI super 35 on the bmcc 6k, this lens is effectively a 28-66 with that 1.8. Such a killer lens for video. Very sharp, virtually NO FOCUS BREATHING which is really nice. Will live on my bmcc. 6k as my daily driver. Only swapping when needed for specialty shots.

[0.43 lb] Quite sharp wide open on both ends of the zoom. Bokeh not quite as smooth as some of my prime lenses in the range. Great contrast. Fast Auto focus.

[0.43 lb] Love the lens. the built quality and sharpness is amazing. It's definately on the heavier side (even heavier than the popular Tamron 28-75mm) and the size is almost identical but i can see myself using the Sigma 50mm as my main lens.

[Zipper] I have seen people complain about the focal range being too narrow, and while I’d love for it to go fully to 50…. Honestly, isn’t 45 close enough?

The lens is super sharp, and autofocuses like a dream. Great build quality and not TOO large/heavy. I’ve see. Those complaints also, but really, it’s not that bad!

Lens is amazing.

[0.43 lb] The quality of the lens and optics are remarkable. Sharpness, critical focal distance, focus fall-off, lack of chromatic aberration, build quality, and the smoothness of the focal change with fly-by-wire are insane. I’m incredibly excited to put this to work.
ONE THING to note. If you buy the L mount for panasonic, the sound of the motors changing the aperture within the lens are quite loud. If you were to rely solely on on-camera audio sources it will be picked up in quiet environments. Even when the lens is de-clicked this is the case. I actually video-chatted with B&H (amazing customer service) to verify it wasn’t a malfunction. After testing it in-store on a sony e-mount, we assumed my lens was defective until i received the replacement and did a second video call because of the same issue. Originally the representative said his lens was quiet, but i asked him to use an L-mount on a panasonic to verify this. Once he swapped lens mounts/camera he observed a noticeable increase in the noise of the aperture motors from the lens. VERY unlikely 3 lenses all have an issue. 
All that said: I’m happily keeping the lens but wanted to let people know because i haven't seen this mentioned anywhere yet.

[Zipper] OK, I haven't tried this lens. But the review below hasn't either and is extremely unfairly giving this a 3 star overall rating. I used a 24-35 f/2 for a couple years, though.


With video you need more testing for distortion, lens breathing, et. but lenses, in general, are all pretty good for photography these days. So mainly look at the specs. It's fairly heavy, though it could be worse. It starts at 28 which may not be wide enough for many — 24 is a big difference. But if you like the range going to normal (true normal is about 43mm if you're pedantic so this covers it) and don't mind no 24mm to 27 then this could be great for documentary coverage.

[Zipper] I tend to prefer primes for pure image quality and the results from this lens are truly prime quality. I've done some comparison between this lens and my primes in this range on my Sony a7R V and wide open at shared apertures it competes very well.

If you are okay with the FL range of 28-45, want something faster than a traditional zoom, and are willing to have a largish/heavyish lens...go for it. It's a winner.

[Handheld Only] Perfect walk around lens for my video cameras. it's what the 18-35 used to be on my C300mk3. I wish they made an EF version, but I doubt they will at this point. I use this on my FX6 and Burano. A little heavy, but worth it.
