Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a recommended grid that will cover the softbox?

A: Unfortunately, there is no grid available to fit the Raya Octa Soft Box for Octa Fluorescent 7 which is included in this kit.

Q: 2. Can the light level be adjusted, or is it always on ?

A: The Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture has dual rocker switches on their back panels, each of which control on/off function for 3 or 4 lamps allowing the creation of a light ratio. You can either turn one switch on to use 3 lamps, the other switch to use 4 lamps, or both switches to use all 7 lamps at once.

Q: 3. Can this be used for flat lays?

A: Yes this light kit can be used to shoot flat lays.

Q: 4. do the battties charge via the light when pluged into a power source or need to charge seperately???

A: This fixture does not use batteries. AC power only.

Q: 5. I have the above lamp, which came with 4 Eiko 26W florescents. The combined effect is somewhat underwhelming in brightness. Can this same lamp accommodate or withstand the use of the Eiko 40W or 50W bulbs listed elsewhere on B&H?

A: Personally, I use 4 LED bulbs (760 lumens/60w equivalent) instead of fluorescents. My setup involves using the Impact boom with the lamp, where it is positioned above the subject to increase ambient light, decrease shadows for portrait work. As well as, off camera flash to add character to the shot. As you may already know, Impact diffused lighting tend to be warm; therefore, higher bulb (LED) output tend to increase the lighting for the environment.

Q: 6. Could I use one, two or three Savage 50W LED bulbs (B&H # SA50WLED) in some of the seven fluorescent sockets on this light head? Thank you!

A: While the Savage 50W LED bulbs have the same Edison base as the fluorescent lamps included with this fixture, they have not be tested by the manufacturer as being fully compatible. Your results may vary.

Q: 7. Can I use LED bulbs???

A: Yes, you can use led's.

Q: 8. Will it accept trs 1/4" as input?

A: Yes, the Fostex RM-3 Rackmount 20W Speaker System accepts both XLR and 1/4" TS analog input, as well as AES/EBU digital input.

Q: 9. Is there any way to add a grid to these softboxes?

A: No

Q: 10. What's the SSI rating for this LED light?

A: The manufacturer does not have a SSI rating for this affordable, entry level light. It does have a Color Accuracy Standard rating of CRI 94.

[Electronic] I BOUGHT 4 OF THEM FOR MY CHURCH, IT IS INCREDIBLE EASY TO USE

[50,000 Hours] I needed a bright LED for front of house lights with a throw of 50-75 feet. This did the trick. It can be adjusted for a soft or hard focus and zoomed in for a spotlight. It acts like one of those great old incandescents that I miss so much since going down the LED highway. The one problem I have with the light is that it is pretty long and I wanted to hang it on a light tree in the audience and I am a bit uncomfortable with that. But this is not a problem with the instrument or B&H Photo who sold me the light. It was just something I didn't put into the mix. But I would buy this product again and I do anticipate many happy years of use.

[4.495 lb] First use was in an auditorium that was larger than it should have handled. Everyone was so impressed by the clean and bright white light. It impressed me enough that I will purchase another on so I can have proper spotlight operations.

[1x Power Cable] Despite the confusion in the Q&A above, this does have a fan on the bottom, see picture. It's *much* quieter than either of the two ADJ Dekker models which are the closest comparison I'm aware of. RGBW light quality is identical to those, although with a different dimming curve and strobe timing. The CMYO beams are projected opposing RGBW not mixed with them, which is a neat effect (see other picture of blue and orange channels from a single fixture). Be warned that if you're using SoundSwitch for DMX control, controlling CMYO requires attribute cues not simple color/intensity automation.

There are a couple issues with the manual, if I could take off half a star for them I would. The cyan and magenta channels are swapped, and the description of the movement channel could be better. The manual says 001-255, motor speed slow to fast. More accurate would be 0-127 indexed positions, 128-255 fast to slow then slow to fast direction and rotation.

The constant rotation gives you a much wider range of movement options vs the ADJ Dekkers, although there's no automated back and forth thus more programming required if you want a basic derby effect (requires attribute cues in SoundSwitch which is kind of a pain).

[5x Auto-Program] Needed a good ellipsoidal for field video work but didn't want to shell out big $ for it. This was the perfect fit. Plenty of punch, and it comes with a zoom lens so I can scale the pattern to fit the background properly. Love it! It's got a little bit of fan noise, but hasn't been a problem yet.

[617 Lumens] I bought two of these. They have a lot of nice features and are easily set up. I got one hung and it worked perfectly, although for our stage it was a pretty wide wash. We may put barn doors on it. We have about a 24’ throw from that position.

For the other light, we accidentally put it through an abuse test. It got dropped from a 12’ height onto a concrete floor. The lens broke into several pieces and a two inch chunk of the metal case broke off. Amazingly enough, we put in the second lens and it worked fine. No LED or circuitry failure. Very tough little light. We are going to use it until it chooses to fail.

[1x Power Cable] Plug and play, I ordered 2 and hang them together. Quick and effect light show for small events. Cannot get much simpler

[15.3 x 8 x 7.9"] Red...Green...Blue...White...Cyan...Magenta...Amber...Orange...you pick and choose.

Fire up DMX and not only do you have a nice color palette, but unlike nearly every derby effect light out there you can actually dim the intensity of each color! Really works well when combined with static lighting to get just enough movement blended into your look.

Loving it so far!

[15.3 x 8 x 7.9"] I bought four of these to incorporate into a permanent install, and to travel to smaller events. The lights were very easy to install - I was up and running in minutes. Programming is intuitive - from the menu on the back of the light, an IRC remote, and a lighting console. The only caveat to that is the ability to dim or turn off the lights. I had to set the light to a static color (like red), then turn the intensity of the color to 0%. This in effect turns off the light. The lights are very portable, and just what I wanted to bring some life to a school dance, special church event, etc. MelRae in Texas
