The Audio-Technica ATM610a Hypercardioid Handheld Microphoneis designed for live sound reinforcement and recording applications. The microphone is especially useful for lead and backing vocals because its hypercardioid polar pattern reduces the pickup of sounds to the sides and rear of the microphone. It utilizes a rare-earth magnet within its dynamic circuit design and provides a frequency response of 40 to 16,000 Hz. An integrated MagnaLock switch allows you to turn the microphone on and off.

The unit features an internal shockmount to reduce handling and stage noise and includes a multi-stage grill to reduce the effect of plosives and sibilance. The microphone body is constructed of metal for durability and features corrosion-resistant gold-plated XLR3-M contacts. It comes with an Audio-Technica Quiet-Flex stand clam for 5/8" threaded microphone stands, a 5/8" to 3/8" threaded adapter, and a soft protective sleeve.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I pair this mic with the system 10 lavalier receivers?

A: Thank you for your question. You can use up to 8 systems in an ideal environment. the receiver can only operate on a single transmitter at a time so you would need 8 full systems to mic up 8 people.

Q: 2. How does this compare to the Beyerdynamics DT297 headset? I've used the 297s for years but it's time to replace or update.

A: The Audio-Technica Broadcast Stereo Headset with Cardioid Condenser Boom Microphone (BH # AUBPHS2C) should compare very well to the Beyerdynamic DT297 headset in actual use depending upon the device it is connected to. NOTE: The Audio-Technica BPHS2C impedance is only 38 ohms.

Q: 3. what stops the popping when singing?

A: The AE 3300 has a metal mesh grill which is foam lined to give you 2 stage protection from popping and sibilance.

Q: 4. is this a battery operated microphone?

A: There is no place to add a battery, but it does require extra power (phantom power) from the mixer to work.

Q: 5. Does it require phantom power?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone BH #AUAT4053B requires 48V phantom power.

Q: 6. I have a Canon r600 camcorder, does this mic require Phantom power or does it use batteries as i am unsure if the port allows for Phantom power.

A: This is a dynamic handheld mic that requires no phantom power.

Q: 7. I was wondering if this would work with the ATW-R3100b receiver?

A: The Audio-Technica ATM610a/S requires a cable to operate. This mic has no wireless capability built in. The Audio Technica 3000 series requires a wireless handheld transmitter such as the ATW-T371b. Available in multiple frequencies to match 3000 series receivers currently available. Please see the following link: http://bhpho.to/1hyrOYU

Q: 8. Is this system susceptible to cell phone interference?

A: The System 10 operates on the 2.4 GHz band which is above cell phone transmission. You should not experience interference from cell phones.

Q: 9. So it's powered by the cameras battery?

A: I think dynamic microphones do not use any power source. They're similar to phonograph cartridges in that way.

Q: 10. Can I use this for music vocals? I would like to use it with my iRig DuoPro and travel guitar. It has the correct plugs but how about sound quality? I need something for practicing not for stage or recording. I currently use a Sharp over ear mounted mic with Bose noise canceling headphones but that is too much attached to my head to be comfortable.

A: The sound quality from the mic is pretty good, not up to specs as proper performance mics, but certainly better than your average bluetooth headset. It is primarily used for broadcast, so it does have a professional quality.

[Hypercardioid] We purchased this microphone for our teen broadcasting class in our high school. It is perfect...excellent quality and easy to work with for our news broadcasts. I highly recommend it!!

[0.9 lb] I have owned this mic for a little over 10 years now. I've used it for everything from outdoor boom mic, indoor boom mic, voiceover, multiple instruments (amazing on a cello!!).... simply put, it's better sounding and better control than any other mic I've used. When in doubt, put the 4053 on it, and you'll smile from ear to ear. It has yet to disappoint me. I eventually sold my NTG3 because this sounded better by a LOT. never used the NTG again after I got this mic. It's my favorite mic. I'm VERY tempted to get another... probably replace my studio podcast mic with it. It can sound full and warm without having that muffled/dark sound the SM7B and others of its ilk tend to sound like.

[Black] Don't have enough money to buy a Schoeps? Obviously that's the Gold Standard, but the AT does an admirable job and it fit our budget a little better.

[Solid-State] The AT4053b was the right choice to upgrade our audio recording capabilities. Sound is crisp, sharp, clean, and precise.

[Hypercardioid] Great sounding mic. Very sensitive as well as natural sounding. Compliments my CS-3e well for indoor scenes. I will buy another if I ever need stereo.

[Hypercardioid] Great sound for great $$$. Considerably less expensive than its competition and sounds nice. The sound I got from it took EQ well. Pair it with the Rycote Softie-Lite 21 Fur Screen Kit (21 mm), a nice boom pole and you'll be a happy camper.

[Hypercardioid] Can't believe how long it took me to learn that shotguns aren't a good choice for interior dialogue. Upgraded to the 4053b from an NTG 2 and haven't looked back.

[On/Off] I've been using cheaper overhead mics for my video production company for years . . . generally, the audio was good, but never crisp . . . this mic has changed everything! Professional, tight, clear microphone. This is a pro mic and at a great price.

[Hypercardioid] I bought the new Tascam DR-60DmkII 4-Channel Portable Recorder as a secondary device to record audio and tried my existing mic's with this unit. The problem was that both my other 2 mics did not pick up well without a lot of ambient noise too and definitely didn't do well in a echoey type room setting. Now I do have a couple of wireless mic's also but sometimes those don't fit the bill. I needed a mic, on a boom pole & stand that picked up good interviews that didn't have that echoey tone to it and also picked up the voice loud * clear enough so when I imported it into FCPX I had an audio track I could deal with and edit. After watching some video's of this mic and hearing some online samples, I thought I'd try this even though it was very pricey for mainly one purpose. Once it arrived I was really anxious to test it and after about an hour of testing, adjusting levels, bringing samples into FCPS & so on, I was very pleased. This is one thing I won't have to worry about anymore. So with the the Tascam recorder & this mic, and the extra wind screen, I got about what....$$into this solution. But audio is so important I felt relieved I had solved the problem. I also bought the Windtech 1200 Series - 3/4 Inside Diameter - Black Windscreen (B&H # WI1200B) to put on this mic because it's a little bulkier and helps block echo sound. The wind screen that comes with the mic is a little small & thinner. One more thing about this. I have the new Sony a7s, I will be hooking this camera up to the new Atomos Shogun monitor/recorder and using this mic with that unit, plugged right into the Shogun's XLR inputs for close personal interview type work.
