The mobile rack is used in 3.5" drive bays (floppy bays). The ability to house two 2.5" SATA SSDs or HDDs in a single 3.5" drive bay make it suitable for building small RAID 1 backups for SMB workstations or fast RAID 0 arrays for powerful PCs. Utilizing its small form factor, the mobile rack is suitable for use in industrial PCs, SMB SFF servers, mobile DVR systems, or even home servers. Multi-Flow Technology (MFT) effectively routes airflow correctly for passive cooling via ventilation slots on the front, rear, top, and bottom (in multiple locations).The Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT) and EMI grounding are used to provide a stable environment for hard drives or SSDs. LED indicators installed in the front of the mobile rack provide drive status information at all times. Active Power Technology (APT) allows each LED to be on only when a hard drive is inserted into the enclosure.

A: As your laptop does not have external sata or SAS interfaces, only Thunderbolt or USB, there would need to be a computer in between to manage the connection as well as disperse the drives properly into your laptop's file system. A computer basically, or file/drive server. This server would interface to each physical drive via SATA and provide connectivity via USB or some other consumer level connection method. This box cannot serve these drives alone without an actual computer with processor to handle traffic management and device connectivity.

A: That will depend on your RAID controller. The unit does make it simple to pop out the drives when safe to eject.

[1x 3.5"] Pros: Self contained. Doesn't use up resources Cons: Longer than a standard 3.5 drive The drives stay loose on the trays. It looks as though the holes for the drives are slightly too wide for the screws provided. I had same issue with different screws. Product works fine as is. Other Thoughts: I've been installing these on our manufacturing equipment on their CPCI controllers. Only wish ICYDOCK offered a tray for CPCI setups. I've been making my own at a local maker space. Of the 7 I've installed so far, I've only had one bad unit. I'll be sending it back for warranty. Still a great solution for our needs. I would like to see some indication, either via lights or the monitoring software, that the unit has finished building the new RAID array. To avoid loosing any data, I first install the SSD and power up the unit. Give it 5min to build the array. Then take out the SSDs and clone the original drives. The manual is not very specific about this. 5

[SATA 3 (6 Gb/s)] I am very pleased with the ease of use and performance of this product. The only thing that would make it better is that if it were trayless, but I knew what it was when I bought and am extremely pleased with it. 5

[SATA 3 (6 Gb/s)] This is a great product if you have limited space and power. Use 1- 5.25 Drive Bay and then mount up to 2 - 2.5mm drives and one slimline (Laptop) dvd/blueray Drive in unit. I'll be getting another :-) :-) If the screws don't fit then use other screws. Extra power connectors on the back if you don't have the right one coming from your power supply. 5

[SATA 3 (6 Gb/s)] I bought this because I liked the fact that it didn't have a rail/caddy system like many of the other models. There's really not much to this simple design, which is why I like it. You're just sliding an SSD into a power + SATA connector. Not much to go wrong here. The SSD's I've tried in it fit somewhat tightly in the slot so a bit of force is required to push them in, and quite a lot of force is required to pop them out by pressing the button. I'm not sure if this would be the case with all SSDs or just the model I'm using. If I were going to be popping SSDs in and out multiple times a day, I might be bothered by this, but for my usage pattern, it's fine. 5

[SATA 3 (6 Gb/s)] I recently acquired a Dell 5180 workstation. It has a mirror pair of boot SSDs but not local storage. Fine for an enterprise workstation, but not a home system. The Icy Dock enabled me to add two more 2.5 HDDs and a multi-card reader to teh only 5.25 bay. Only complaint, had to purchase a SATA power splitter. Would have been easy to include in packaging. 5

[Yes] I was looking to build a seven SSD RAID in my HP z820 for video playback and found this 8 bay Icy Dock on B&H. �I thought they only built these for 6 drives, but was psyched to find one cage to hold all of my drives. This is a sturdy metal case that holds the eight drives neatly and secure while allowing for easy access at the push of a button. �The dual fans on the back provide cooling for the drives. I highly recommend this storage solution for anyone looking to mount multiple ssds 5

[1x 3.5"] SFF computer from many brands only come with a single SATA power connector and this allows using the one SATA power for 2 HDD/SSD. Easy to use and the hot-swap insert and removal functions as expected. 5
