[Aluminum] I needed this to get my AZ-EQ5 high enough that my refractor would be useable at a comfortable height in Alt/Az mode. This did the trick! It is very stable and raises it to just the right height. It is a f/7.5 5 APO refractor. The standard pier that comes with the mount just wasn't hight enough.

I also highly recommend the AZ-EQ5 or 6 for use in AP and visual. It is really nice to have the ability to switch to Alt/Az mode for visual then go back to EQ mode for AP. I have both mounts. And for a mass produced mount they work really well plus you can use EQMOD with them.

[Black] This is a simple pier extension that can be used on many different photo tripods, telescope mounts & carbon fiber tripods.


I use this with an ALT/AZ head to mount telescopes on light weight tripods for travel.


The extra height allows the telescope to clear the mount legs and make it more comfortable to view.

It gave my pier the 6" increase in height it needed to bring the eyepiece on my refractor to a more usable level when at zenith. For the money, it was worth buying this option vs. making one of my own in my shop. Two thumbs up.

[2.84 lb] Out of the box, I got some pretty gratifying results. It's definitely not beginner friendly, but it isn't beginner unfriendly either. You can get a lot of insight from watching reviews and usage practices on youtube. The instructions are not the best. But the results I got on my first attempts are so gratifying, I can't give this anything less than 5 stars. It's a joy!
