[Aluminum] I needed a heavily graded filter for video on my a7siii. The versatility of having it be variable combined with this camera's ISO performance means that 6 to 9 stops is really all I need (if 6 is overkill at ISO 100 I can safely go to 800 with no practical noticeable image quality degrading). On a modern, super light sensitive camera this is an essential tool for video. I could take or leave the Peter McKinnon branding but PolarPro makes great kit and this filter is no exception. [0.505 lb] at first I was using the 2-5 variable and it wasn't enough to keep my 50mm f1.2 at f1.2. This 6-9 variable nd solved everything. I actually recommend both because there's a time of the day for different nds.

[5.5 x 5 x 1.2"] The 6-9 stop works amazing for shooting at a low aperture outside and has very little vignette. It was well worth spending the money and splurging for this one.

[Glass] I purchased the Maglock system on pre-order from PP. I actually got an early release of the VND itself and want to say it performs just like the the regular 2-5 VND from polar pro. Only difference, drum roll, the locking mechanism.

Being a run gun videographer, this thing is an absolute life saver. When switching scenes quickly, switching from stop 2 to 5 is relatively easy. However, from 4-5 stops, the VND does shoe some vignette. But it's tolerable and and workable.

The locking mechanism works flawlessly. One button and a turn and the entire VND is off. Allowing me to go from outside, to inside in record time, and be ready to go.

[Aluminum] The 1.8 to 2.7 is perfect when filming in direct sunlight, you need to shoot at 2.8f, and you are at 800iso. Plus other photography uses too. I have not noticed much color shift. This is a well built VND.

[5.5 x 5 x 1.2"] Very good quality ND - slight cast and slight vignette at the higher stops when using my widest lens (20mm), but better than the cheaper Tiffen filter it replaced.


The real winning quality is the included case/defender cap system, makes it so easy to put on, leave on, and take off when needed. Makes me reach for it far more than other screw filters I've had, which alone makes it worth the price tag for me - What good is a cheaper filter that I don't bother bringing with me because its a hassle to use and protect.

Well made product. Love that you basically never have to touch the filter itself. Would I buy again?? Yes, I see the 2-5 stop filter in my near future.
