Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I mount accessories on top of v-mount adapter? I see three holes that looks like quarter inch screw holes.

A: Yes, those 3 holes are 1/4"-20 threadings.

Q: 2. What does unregulated power outputs mean on this item and is there a risk they could short circuit my camera or connected accessories?

A: The Sony FS7 can work safely with V mount and gold mount batteries which are nominally rated for 14.4VDC. Nominally in reality means the voltage varies from 14.4VDC. However, no worries on this plate for the voltage from the battery to the camera is regulated to a 11VDC to 17 VDC range and the camera self regulates to these same voltage numbers. Very commonly like here however, the D taps voltage is straight out whatever the battery is outputting with no regulation. If you use it on a light, there is no danger, the light will just dim and go out. If the device is complicated computer circuitry, I would not hook it up unless it had its own internal voltage regulation.

Q: 3. Does this come with the 2 top mounting screws?

A: Yes, but it doesn't sit flush and the inside connector that connects to extension unit is exposed to the elements. It works but needs to be redesigned.

Q: 4. Are other V-Mount batteries compatible with this plate or just the Core SWX branded batteries?

A: Any v-mount battery will adapt to the following plate.

Q: 5. How does this mount to the camera? Do I need an additional cheese plate?

A: This mount is designed specifically to mount directly on the back of the Canon C300 mk III or C500 mk II. No cheese plates or additional accessories are necessary.

Q: 6. Can you use multiple outputs simultaneously or just one at a time? I want to power my Sony FS7 and a monitor with just one v-mount battery.

A: Yes you can. This will connect directly to the FS7 for power and has D-Tap power ports you can use to power accessories from.

Q: 7. Does this work with the CORE Sharkfin?

A: Yes, if you are working with the Core SWX Battery Plate for RED KOMODO (Gold Mount) it could adapt to the SWX Gold Mount Shark-fin mount. Core SWX Short Form Factor Hotswap Shark-Fin Mount Battery Mount (Gold Mount, 2 x D-Taps) BH #COGPTASFF

Q: 8. Does this unit actually power the camera and how is that connection made?

A: Yes it powers the camera through a small cable that connects to the DC in port in the back of the camera. You can still have a small sony battery in the camera so it actually becomes hot swappable :)

Q: 9. Is this plate surge protected?

A: The Core SWX Battery Plate for RED KOMODO (V-Mount) does have fuses that would protect your camera.

Q: 10. If ordered now will this be the new model ,as in the picture ?

A: Yes, you will receive a brand new model, the same as pictured.

[12 to VDC ] Excellent V-Mount plate for the Komodo as I was skeptical at first from the previous reviews just had to find out for myself and great product with no problem at all..

[12 to VDC ] I tried two other plates, and Core's plate is the best. It's like RED made it. It reads battery information, fits perfectly and is dependable. This is the plate to get.

[1x DC Jack] So happy not to have to plunk down 2K for a extension back! This does the trick for battery and weight distribution solution!

[12 to VDC ] There's no real question here, this is a must-have. I use V-mount batteries for my other Red, lights, random other gear so adding this V-mount to the KOMODO was necessary. I definitely didn't want to add a whole new battery system to my gear bag with all the other cables, chargers, etc I travel with. This thing pops on and off with ease and pairs well with Core SWX batteries. Highly recommend.

[7 to 8.4 VDC ] There seem to be a myriad of ways to power the FS7. You have the stock Sony batteries, V-Mount, the Sony extension unit, various plate options and this guy. It fits snugly to the camera and looks like it belongs on there. It is well designed and not too heavy. It would be nice if it was completely sealed from the elements, but you would really need to be in a sketchy environment to get anything into it- a small portion of the back is not sealed. The only downside is that it won't transmit time remaining on your battery to the camera as hours and minutes, It sends that info as volts, since it uses the DC input on the back of the camera for power.

[1x DC Jack] Took some time to compare and try different models, but happy I decided to go for this one. Slim, flexible, awesome quality and gives me possibility to use the v-mount without rods and accessories. Easy to attach to the body. Enough with connections to run additional monitor and other equipment. To sum up, put it in your basket. You will not be disappointed!

[12 to VDC ] I chose this plate after quite a bit of research and with the knowledge that it is Red Approved, unlike many other options. I'd read a few accounts of defects, but decided to see for myself.

I definitely made the right decision. I've had no issues whatsoever after about 100 hours on set, and probably 50 hours of recreational shooting. The plate is tight to the camera and keeps the battery secure even when pressing it against my chest for extra stability when handheld. I'd have preferred another d tap port, but most batteries have at least one on them.

[12 to VDC ] Not sure why some of the other reviews are so negative -- this has been a truly great piece of gear for my Komodo kit & easily works with many different sized v mount batteries. Never an issue, as with most core swx products.
