Q: 2. Can the Lyre Mounts be moved closer together for a small mic, like the Sanken CS-M1?

Q: 6. Does it fit 19mm mics?

A: FYI it works with 20mm mics (Schoeps CMC6) but rubber insert will prolapse easily - have had a couple of these rendered useless by stagehands forcing KM184s into them. i've never tried vaseline,(!) but i think that may be a joke comment...

Q: 7. What size is the thread, 3/8" or 5/8"? I assume 3/8"-16, which is what I want, but I don't want to have to adapt it.

A: The SM4-R Suspension Shockmount from Rode is for mounting various Rode microphones onto a mic stand or boompole with a 3/8 or 5/8" thread.

A: The RE50 has a 1 inch shank. A A53M is too small as its interior dimension is 0.75 inches.

[0.36 lb] I use these with my expensive Schoeps MK41 mics. They are alot cheaper than the ones that came with the mics and do a better job. Highly recommend these.

[0.36 lb] Someone said these work/fit on Gefell M930/M940/M950 in a review. They do indeed, and much better than the original clips.

Good luck and happy recording all.

[0.36 lb] I bought this Shure Microphone mount for a specific set of active mics. I am able to mount the mics on a bar that slides into the A53M and it provides excellent isolation. I really like its low profile and with rubber cushioning and dampening it seems to work as well as larger shockmounts using more elaborate elastic band isolation methods. I can see that 2 of these would work well with some of my full sized thinner mics and I actually have a set of larger Shure isolation shock mounts that I use with some fatter microphones. This is a well priced item that does the job, resists vibration and allows me to optimize recordings. I have not yet found any negatives, perhaps because it is a simple item that does a good job isolating vibrations.

[0.36 lb] Not cheap but does a good job of isolating the mic from floor and stand vibrations.

[0.36 lb] I purchased a pair of these for a set of Shure SM81s after reading that a number of the top recording engineers prefer these to the traditional spider style. They do seem to do an as good or better job with a lower cost and less bulk. This style would be my top recommendation for a good-performing, no-nonsense shock mount for small diaphragm condensers. It also works well with the Beyerdynamic M201. If you have other mics, check the specs on the SM81 and if your mic has roughly the same diameter then you should be good to go. Negatives: They slump a little when used horizontally. This is an aesthetic thing mostly. Speaking of aesthetics, if you are using these for a studio some clients might find them less impressive than a big spider mount. They don't look as expensive. I read that these work with the Gefell M930 and they do to an extent, but I only feel comfortable using them with my M930s if they are mounted facing forward with the cable coming out the bottom. I feel like in a sideways or upside down position the mic could work its way out.

[0.36 lb] As a replacement for the stock microphone clips, this works beautifully. It holds the mics securely, and protects against vibrations. I couldn't be happier with them. If I were to suggest any improvement, it would be to engineer the base to accept European 3/8" standard as well as USA 5/8" to avoid having to use an adapter.

[0.36 lb] You know the drill: You clamp your small diameter mic into a suspension mount, as one of the rubber bands pops loose. Your client watches as you struggle to get the band back into place, only to have the other side of the mount pop loose as well! No such problem with this little beauty.

My Shure A53M mount will take any 20mm diameter mic (most small diameter dynamic and condenser mics, it would seem.) Besides the Shure KSM137, it fits my Oktava MK012, Neumann KM84/KM184, and some other mics.

The trick to using it is to twist a mic a little as you insert it. Otherwise it will stick a little bit as you slide it in. Either way, it is quick to set up, doesn't use up as much space as the traditional suspension band mounts, and doesn't seem to deflect as much in use due to the weight of an XLR cable.

I haven't done any scientific tests as to the amount of transmission of noise from the floor up and into a microphone (the whole point of a suspension mount, right?) but it seems to do as good a job as most any other mount.

Oh, and I can store two of these into the same space as one typical suspension mount. Plus they don't snag as easily onto to other gear in my kit bag, as I try to remove them during setup.

Nice!

[0.36 lb] This is a great shock mount for pencil-style mikes - much smaller than elastic-band types and just as effective.

[0.36 lb] I use the A53M on a pair of classic AKG-414B-ULS studio condenser mikes that I purchased used. I tried AKG's current shock mount for the 414 series, and it simply did not provide as good shock isolation as the A53M. The small size is also a definite plus.

[0.36 lb] This A53 is a sleeper product not aggressively marketed by Shure, like many of their offerings. But Shure is an American company, much copied and seldom equaled with unprecedented longevity. These mounts will fit just about any small diameter mic by Shure and many other manufacturers. I use them for my Shures, AKGs, Schoeps and Oktavas and the, larger, A55 for my Royerribbons. It's a simple compact design that punches well above its weight class at a very reasonable price
