The diskAshur3 is engineered to provide tamper-proof security. Accessing its components requires physically breaking the enclosure, clearly indicating any tampering attempts. Moreover, all internal parts are shielded with a layer of durable epoxy resin, enhancing protection against physical attacks.

The firmware complies with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 standards. Additionally, the drive features a secure microprocessor certified to Common Criteria EAL5+, along with a distinctive flash lock mechanism, providing defense against potential firmware attacks.

It also provides robust protection against BadUSB attacks via a secure USB controller firmware protection mechanism. This guarantees the authentication of the USB controller firmware prior to any unlocking attempt.

If the user PIN is entered incorrectly 10 consecutive times, it will be deleted. Data will remain on the device but only accessible with the Admin PIN. If the Admin PIN is entered incorrectly 10 consecutive times, all data is lost forever. The device will need to be reconfigured before it can be re-used.

The diskAshur3 can be configured with independent user, admin, and one-time recovery PINs, ensuring flexibility without compromising security.

No pre-set admin PIN is provided, and one must be configured before the drive can be used.

Once the self-destruct PIN is entered, the encryption key and all PINs are deleted and all data is rendered as lost forever.

The backlighting can be turned on or off, making the keys visible in low light conditions.

Install any OS on the diskAshur3 and boot directly from it.

The drive can be set to automatically lock when idle following a predetermined length of time.

Restricts write access to the drive, making it impossible to modify the data stored on it.

Select between the default AES-XTS 256-bit mode or the AES-ECB 256-bit and AES-CBC 256-bit modes.

[Bus Powered] One of my new years resolutions/projects was to get away from HDD/spindle drives completely and get my entire digital life on SSD. This would require a 16TB drive and the only two choices at this time were the Glyph Blackbox and Oyen Digital MiniPro RAID V4. I use a Glyph 2TB Blackbox at work and it seems stable and solid. But I chose the Oyen for a few reasons.

The price difference of $600.

The RAID option to have two separate SSDs actually works better for my purpose. I have an inflexible, rigid archive of files that is just under 8TB and just fits in one of the drives, and I use the other drive for current projects and files.

The ability to daisy chain was the deal maker for me, and requires the power adaptor which is provided. After reformatting both drives I successfully transferred the 8TB archive files over although it took FOREVER going thru a USB A hub. Now that I think about it, I am surprised how many drives on the market (both SSD and HDD) don't have daisychaining.

I have always been a believer in solid state memory going back to the microdrive vs CF Card photography days at the turn of the millenium. Since that time the durability and speed of solid state has been firmly established, but the prohibitive costs have made it difficult to switch over. While I wouldn't exactly call the Oyen MiniPro RAID exactly cheap, the cost per terabyte ratio is doable for me. And it certainly is nice not to have to wait for HDDs to spin up anymore or worry about moving parts. If the Oyen holds up as well as I hope, I will be getting another to daisychain for a backup unit.
