Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Made in USA or made in China?

A: The MOTU M4 is made in China.

Q: 2. Can we output audio from both Input 1 and Input 2 simultaneously to the usb so that we hear both inputs at the same time (mono-mix or stereo mix)?

A: Yes. This will allow two simultaneous inputs.

Q: 3. Are the line outs 3/4 able to be switchable outputs? For example I use Vmix for streaming and need to be able to send something different to my speakers than what is going to my headphones. So I want to make sure I can route output 3/4 as like just playback and main outputs as the master.

A: Line Outputs 3/4 will output the same audio that is coming from your main monitor outputs 1/2. The reason for outputs 3/4 is primarily for routing to outboard gear like reverb or effects processors and then bring that audio back into your line inputs, to mix with your existing audio. You can also monitor through another pair of monitors using line outs 3/4.

Q: 4. The specs say this has 32 bit. How would that compare to the 32 bit in the Zoom F6?

A: The Motu M2 records in 24-bit.

Q: 5. Is this the new 2021 version with the new DAC converter and the extra fixing screws in the front?

A: Yes, we are currently carrying the most recent version of the MOTU M2.

Q: 6. Can I connect 4 XLR Mics to this interface?

A: This interface offers just two XLR microhone inputs.

Q: 7. Can I power this with a USB-C powering jack (wall wart) and use it without a computer?

A: Yes, it can be powered via a USB-C wall adapter and used as a standalone pre-amp.

Q: 8. I noticed that the front connectors say XLR/LINE/Guitar yet I dont see a switch to change it from line to instrument. How does this work?

A: The interface adjusts automatically based on what input connection is used. Please note, the XLR connection is only meant for mic level sources, any +4 line level input should be connected to the TRS input of the interface.

Q: 9. Looking for an audio interface in the $200-$1k range that records in 32bit float, that works effectively on windows using FL Studio. Does this exist?

A: Yes, the MOTU M4 Desktop 4x4 USB Type-C Audio/MIDI Interface offers 32-bit float capabilities and is compatible for use with Windows as well as FL Studio.

Q: 10. Will this work on a 2015 iMac?

A: This should connect to a 2015 iMac via the included USB C to A cable. Your macOS will need to be 10.11 or higher in order for this unit to operate.

[48 V] Without the LED meters you are just guessing.
Returned others like Scarlett because no audio in/out metering

[48 V] Bought this for home use with Macbook Air M2. I also got a USB-C hub (Sitecom) and was worried it would have issues when connecting via a hub, but it works perfectly fine. The sound is fantastic, having the display is great, and the knobs are a joy to use. Overall a very solid piece of hardware. Very happy with my purchase.

[8x Knob] Easy to set up. Good Value. Worth the upgrade for the extra in/out ports and monitoring options. Low Latency when monitoring in a DAW. Plus the security of knowing that MOTU is best in class for MIDI routing, and this has two MIDI ports--a winning combo for an audio interface.

[12 VDC] So far, the product has worked as described and no complaints. However where the product has been outstanding is the support. I had an issue with drivers on Mac and submitted a Motu support ticket. Less than 24 hours later, Matt from Motu had responded with a personalized video tailored to my exact setup going through the entire install process, just for me. As someone whose new to the pro audio world, I really appreciated that extra personal touch!

[8] I just got the MOTU M4 for video editing and I couldn't be happier. The Motu M4 is hooked up to my MacBook via the Anker 577 Thunderbolt 3 docking station and the sound coming out of my Yamaha HS5's is flawless. I'm very pleased. It looks great sitting on my desk,.

[24-Bit] The first item on our list for our tech upgrade for us to be able to live stream. B&h delivery was fast and this interface was easy to use.

[24.5 x 7 x 4"] I love knobs and audio level meters. It's like enjoying the journey and not just the destination. I purchased this so I can connect my XLR mic and record. For this purpose, it's amazing and I can stop here. However, if you are also looking to get an equally awesome DAC out of this machine, then don't. I have an ifi Zen DAC V2 connected to my setup and when I listen to both side by side, it's lear that the MOTU M2 DAC is just for monitoring.

[8x Knob] Solid build quality- plug and play operation - works fantastic with my MacOS, Windows, and a Linux distribution - used for practicing guitar, multiple sources for recording and with various mics for Zoom meetings - I like the separate on/off switch and versatility of all the balanced and unbalanced inputs/outputs.
