Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can I use the MKH 50 outdoor to record sound? Is it so bad?

A: If you plan to use the Sennheiser MKH 50 outdoors, which is entirely feasible, it would be highly recommended to combine it with a sturdy windshield such as BH #RYSSKS or BH #RYWSQAT.

Q: 2. What will provide some protection for the mic from damage (only need for use indoors) better than the foam windscreen?

A: The only accessories made to actually mitigate damage to the MKH 50 P48 Microphone would be a case for safe storage and transport. In general, wind protection such as foam is not meant to protect against damage, only excessive wind noise and should not be misconstrued for physical protection. While it's true the foam can provide some slight protection against shock, you should still treat the microphone with the same level of care as you would with out any wind protection.

Q: 3. Where is the MKH 50 made?

A: Country Of Origin GERMANY

Q: 4. How does this compare with the 8060 for use as an on-camera mic?

A: The Sennheiser MKH 50 P48 Microphone and the Sennheiser MKH 8060 Short Shotgun Microphone are both very good mics. The MKH 8060 has frequency response range of 50 Hz to 25 kHz and a maximum sound pressure level rating of 149 dB while the MKH 50 has a frequency response range of 40 Hz to 20 kHz and maximum SPL rating of 134 dB. The MKH 50 has a built-in -10 dB pad which allows for more headroom while increasing the maximum SPL rating to 142 dB, and it also has a low frequency roll-off switch to minimize rumble and noise. The MKH 8060 has no switches or controls. The equivalent noise level is similar for both mics, at 11 dB (A-weighted) for the MKH 8060 and 12 dB (A weighted) for the MKH 50. The MKH 50 is a shorter mic at 0.98 x 5.91" while the MKH 8060 measures 0.75 x 7.01". The MKH 50 has a supercardioid pickup pattern while the MKH 8060 has supercardioid pattern at low to midrange frequencies and transitions to lobar in higher frequencies. The MKH 50 is designed for use as a spot mic, usually mounted on a boom for overhead applications to focus on one person to record dialog. It is often used for studio applications. The MKH 8060 is better suited for mounting on a camera and it can be used for a wider range of applications such as films, documentaries, and outdoor shooting. The MKH 8060 is also moisture-resistant.

Q: 5. Does this contain the same removable capsule as the DPA 4018C?

A: This mic has the same 4018 capsule as the 4018C variant.

Q: 6. is there a recommended pistol grip for shooting situations where a boompole is not feasible? for the mkh50

A: The Auray Universal Microphone Pistol Grip (BH #AUGRIP) is a recommended handheld pistol grip for adapting to the shock mount and microphone in the Sennheiser MKH 50 Supercardioid Microphone Kit.

Q: 7. Compared to the DPA 4097, what is the reach of the 4018? In other words, how far from the speaker's mouth can the 4018 be used to still get good sound?

A: Both the DPA Microphones 4097 CORE Micro Shotgun Microphone and the DPA Microphones d:dicate MMC4018 Supercardioid Microphone Capsule have directional supercardioid pickup patterns. DPA does not specify a specific distance from the source for optimal sound capture. As sound sources can vary, different distances from the source to the microphone can achieve similar or different results depending on the scenario. In general, however, 2-3 feet is a typical distance for good audio capture with this style of mic.

Q: 8. Is this shock mount appropriate for the Razer Seiren Emote mic?

A: No, the DPA Microphones Microphone Shock Mount UA0897 would not be an appropriate choice for this mic. I would suggest a universal shock mount such as the Rycote InVision Universal Microphone Shock Mount (BH #RYINVUSM).

Q: 9. I hope you have a promotion of DPA4017C with cinela pianissimo, will you have it?

A: DPA Microphones 4017C Compact Shotgun Microphone with MMP-C Preamp B&H # DP4017C

Q: 10. Is the spec. given here for the diaphragm an error? i.e., 0.05' / 16 mm. Surely 16mm = 0.5'

A: Here us the specification as published by DPA microphones: Capsule Diameter - 16mm (0.6 in).

[Solid-State] I use this mic to record acoustic guitar because of the way it picks up percussive elements of picking. So its uses go beyond just miking drums.

[End Address] We use this lav for education purposes at Morgan State University and it's been a true workhorse. Dare I say, the students can drop them, pack gear on top of them, tug on the cables, and more and they just keep working. We've been using them for almost 5 years now and just ordered a bunch more as additions to our growing department. It's a rarity that one comes up with a short, and it's usually in either the capsule or the mic & cable itself which you can buy independently. Audio quality is superb in noisy situations and in the studio it's crystal clear. Windscreens minimize pops, cracks, ambient and of course modest breezes. The only MINOR downside to these mics are the lack of an internal battery. They do draw on phantom, so not having that battery means whatever we plug them into has to provide the power, but thats never an issue for the systems we use.

[Black] Purchased for use as a lectern and baptismal microphone. Worked great. The length allows us to use this mic in multiple ways such as a instrumental, lectern, crowd, and vocal.

[Mono] This is a great wired lavalier mic. It has great sound and comes with several connection clips and wind screens. I highly recommend this mike for interviews and just about any application where your subject is not in a lot of motion.

[Phantom Power] I watched a lot of online reviews of The 50 before making my purchase. I wondered if this mic could really sound as great as they say. So I took the chance and bought it from my most trusted source, B&H! No regrets! This mic sounds fantastic and is easy to position with its polar pattern and sensitivity.

[Solid-State] We use this lav mic for on-camera production of programs for a local TV station. Our shows contain vo footage recored with a large diaphragm condenser mic. The MX184 approaches the sound quality of the large mic yet is easily concealed on the talent. The cardioid pattern effectively reduces unwanted ambient noise.

[Black] I got this Lav to use with my Zoom H4n and it sounds great. Really picks up sound. So much that I have to turn the recording level down from the previous mic I was using. This is great as it gives me more range to work with.

[48 V] Now I say good riddance to the 402xx series. These guys are fully shielded and really not much bigger either. (get the dpa cable for them) I love the switchable caps to... DPA has really upped their game !!
