Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is there a way to connect this for use directly on computer?

A: This microphone will need an inerface that can provide both phantom power and XLR to USB conversion to work with a computer.

Q: 2. can I use the MKH 50 outdoor to record sound? Is it so bad?

A: If you plan to use the Sennheiser MKH 50 outdoors, which is entirely feasible, it would be highly recommended to combine it with a sturdy windshield such as BH #RYSSKS or BH #RYWSQAT.

Q: 3. Does this kit also include the sennheiser native shockmount, and foam windscreen that usually comes in the case with the mkh50?

A: Yes, it has the boxed Sennheiser kit with the screen and a mic clip. The latter is the close-fitting clip with the standard 5/8 thread.

Q: 4. Is it possible ship to Hong Kong

A: Due to export regulations and/or manufacturer's restrictions, we are unable to ship the Sennheiser MKH 50 Supercardioid Microphone Kit to Hong Kong.

Q: 5. Could anybody tell me the name of the stand that is holding the microphone in the picture?

A: That is a desk stand for the Sennheiser MD441U. There are 2 stands that fit the MD441U, the desk top one in the photo which comes with the mic (special order) and flexible rubber one that we have separately B&H # SEMZQ441.

Q: 6. Is this shock mount appropriate for the Razer Seiren Emote mic?

A: No, the DPA Microphones Microphone Shock Mount UA0897 would not be an appropriate choice for this mic. I would suggest a universal shock mount such as the Rycote InVision Universal Microphone Shock Mount (BH #RYINVUSM).

Q: 7. is there a recommended pistol grip for shooting situations where a boompole is not feasible? for the mkh50

A: The Auray Universal Microphone Pistol Grip (BH #AUGRIP) is a recommended handheld pistol grip for adapting to the shock mount and microphone in the Sennheiser MKH 50 Supercardioid Microphone Kit.

Q: 8. What is the maximum suggested distance to use this mic indoors when lavs and handhelds aren't an option?

A: The operating distance for the Sennheiser MKH 50 P48 Microphone will vary depending on the environment, the ambient sounds in the background, as well as the number of people you will be recording and the volume of their voices. Under optimal conditions in a quiet indoor environment without any background noise, the MKH 50 can pick up sounds from around 6 feet to up to approximately 10 feet away. The best thing to do is to monitor through headphones and do some test recordings while you are setting up the mic to make sure the audio is clear.

Q: 9. I would like to use this microphone to record Voice Overs with. Can you recommend a good "pop filter" for it?

A: Here's a quality pop filter option B&H # THPF842S.

Q: 10. How does this compare with the 8060 for use as an on-camera mic?

A: The Sennheiser MKH 50 P48 Microphone and the Sennheiser MKH 8060 Short Shotgun Microphone are both very good mics. The MKH 8060 has frequency response range of 50 Hz to 25 kHz and a maximum sound pressure level rating of 149 dB while the MKH 50 has a frequency response range of 40 Hz to 20 kHz and maximum SPL rating of 134 dB. The MKH 50 has a built-in -10 dB pad which allows for more headroom while increasing the maximum SPL rating to 142 dB, and it also has a low frequency roll-off switch to minimize rumble and noise. The MKH 8060 has no switches or controls. The equivalent noise level is similar for both mics, at 11 dB (A-weighted) for the MKH 8060 and 12 dB (A weighted) for the MKH 50. The MKH 50 is a shorter mic at 0.98 x 5.91" while the MKH 8060 measures 0.75 x 7.01". The MKH 50 has a supercardioid pickup pattern while the MKH 8060 has supercardioid pattern at low to midrange frequencies and transitions to lobar in higher frequencies. The MKH 50 is designed for use as a spot mic, usually mounted on a boom for overhead applications to focus on one person to record dialog. It is often used for studio applications. The MKH 8060 is better suited for mounting on a camera and it can be used for a wider range of applications such as films, documentaries, and outdoor shooting. The MKH 8060 is also moisture-resistant.

[Phantom Power] This is great if you have the gooseneck with an XLR barrel. If you've got the MicroDot, you need the CMX2218B00 cable to use with this. Fair warning. Beyond that lack of explanation, the mount is great.

[Mono] I got this Lav to use with my Zoom H4n and it sounds great. Really picks up sound. So much that I have to turn the recording level down from the previous mic I was using. This is great as it gives me more range to work with.

[48 V] I use this mic to record acoustic guitar because of the way it picks up percussive elements of picking. So its uses go beyond just miking drums.

[Phantom Power] This is a great wired lavalier mic. It has great sound and comes with several connection clips and wind screens. I highly recommend this mike for interviews and just about any application where your subject is not in a lot of motion.

[Supercardioid] The only cable to have when your DPA headset mic cable breaks (depending on color option).

[48 V] It's a cable. Works great. Expensive. Would you expect anything else from DPA?

[Black] Bought the first one, tried it out, and bought two more immediately.

Terrific microphone. I used to own a Sennheiser, but after a year of use, it started buzzing. Glad to replace it with this mic.

[Black] I love the detail that this mic picks up. The wider spread and small footprint makes it ideal for doing field recordings for sampling in music and foley. Close mikig does a good job of isolating asound, while pulling it back sets it in its environment, and its size allows it to be camera mounted with ease. Great mic!
