Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will this work with a late 2015 i-mac with Monterey OS?

A: No, this LaCie 4TB Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive, would no work with a 2015 iMac.

Q: 2. compatible with mac?

A: The LaCie 5TB Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive BH #LASTFR500080 can be formatted for use with a Mac.

Q: 3. Can anyone advise me as to how to upload phots onto this ? I can't figure stout.

A: This drive is designed to be connected to a computer. Once it is connected to the computer and properly formatted you would use it as an external drive and then you'd be able to bring photos on to it with a camera that is connected to the same computer. You cannot bring photos directly to this drive.

Q: 4. Can you connect this drive to a Samsung Galaxy Tablet?

A: No. You can connect the LaCie Copilot 2TB drive to a tablet or phone. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1381645-REG/seagate_stgu2000400_2tb_dji_copilot_drive.html

Q: 5. I am looking for an External hard drive to back up videos from my iMac M1 (2021) and my iPhone 12 pro max. Will this Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive plug directly into my 2021 iMac M1 without buying an adapter? Also what kind of adaptor would I need to plug it into my iPhone 12 for backing up video files from the phone? TIA

A: Yes, the LaCie 5TB Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive BH #LASTFR500080 connect to a 2021 M1 iMac with the included cables, no adapter is required. While it is possible to connect the drive to the iPhone, it is not very convenient since it requires multiple adapters and would also need to be connected to power. I would suggest instead transferring the content to your mac and then it will be backed up with the rest of the things you have when you make a backup of your iMac using time machine. Another option is getting more iCloud storage which would just run seamlessly in the background for backups and is far more convenient. If you do want to connect it, you would need these items. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1241761-REG/apple_mk0w2am_a_lightning_to_usb_3_0.html?sts=pi&pim=Y https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1429003-REG/rocstor_y10a207_a1_usb_male_to_usb_c.html?sts=pi&pim=Y The adapter has a lightning power input which you might need to use to connect the drive to the iPhone if it's unable to deliver enough power.

Q: 6. Is this an SSD drive?

A: As far as I can tell, it is not a solid state drive. I don't see this written anywhere, so I assume that it is not SSD.

Q: 7. Can I transfer my 4K videofiles from Sony FX6 to LaCie when I am out in the forest?

A: Yes, the LaCie 4TB Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive can hold any type of file you need to store.

Q: 8. Which would be the best match for a macBook pro macOS 10.14.6? I want to move my photo catalog to an external drive.

A: This drive works well with the Macbook Pro and comes with the cable you need in the box.

Q: 9. What brand of HDD do they use in this enclosure?

A: I believe it must be Seagate, as LaCie is touted as Seagate premium product.

Q: 10. The dimensions on specifications of this is wrong? Looking to see how thick it is?

A: Oh yeah, those measurements are off. With the case, I'm measuring 3.40625 x 5.3125 and 1.0625 off the desk.

[ 3.5" HDD ] With the reviews coming out for the latest G-tech drives, I started looking for an alternative. One month in and multiple transfers on the two 12 TB drives, they are almost as quiet as most of my g-techs. No glitches, so far. The power light on one of the drives does not light up.

[12 VDC] I purchased the 2TB version which is more than sufficient for my 500GB MacMini. The only thing I will criticize is that the setup instructions come with the Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office built in. If you have a Mac, you don't need this; Apple's Time Machine provides excellent backup, and it comes with your operating system. After going through the OWC setup instructions, you'll find that Acronis is being offered for a free 1 year subscription. To setup your OWC miniStack, just go straight to the Time Machine setup.

[ 3.5" HDD ] Bought this when it was on sale because I needed more storage. Already had 2 full and have had no issues with either. For long term storage these have been great and reasonably priced

[ 3.5" HDD ] We have used several large format drives in the past, and this is by far the most stable and reliable one we've had yet. The size is great - does not take up much space on the desk top (about the size of a Mac Mini). We've had no issues with failures or transfer speeds. Heartily recommend this drive.

[20 TB] Aesthetically, this drive looks identical to my Mac Mini. The unit looks super sleek when stacked under my drive. I had the 8TB custom built for back-up purposes primarily and it seems extremely responsive with TimeMachine scheduled back-ups. The drive isn't what I would call silent, you definitely hear this drive if you're at the workstation while it's writing but it's not distracting at all. Set-up and formatting was incredibly easy. The auto formatting software comes on the drive. Plug it in, go through the set-up prompts (pick either IOS or PC) and you're good to go. Good device. Hope it lasts since I've never paid this much for an ED ever.
