This dark green filter helps to lighten foliage and other green subject matter within the image while darkening red tones. The #61 filter is also used for tri-color separation and tungsten projection when used in conjunction with a #25 red and a #47 blue filter.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. It measures 4 x 5.65" / 101.6 x 143.5mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this filter fit on a Zeiss 28mm Biogon lens?

A: Yes, the Leica E46 will fit lenses with a standard 46mm filter thread such as the Zeiss 28mm Biogon. I use the Leica E46 Green filter on a Zeiss 50mm C Sonnar lens. However, I mostly use the excellent B+W F-Pro MRC filters at 1/3rd the cost of the Leica branding.

Q: 2. How thick is this Schneider 4x4 filter? Will it fit in a Lee Filters 100mm foundation kit if I install the 4mm optional spacers? Thanks!

A: This filter is 4mm thick.

Q: 3. Can this VND setup be used next to another Rota Tray with just a CP, so I can have both VND and CP? Will this work?

A: The Tiffen Multi Rota Tray Variable Neutral Density Kit with Extra 4x5.65" Circular Polarizer has a rotating ROUND CP that is permanently in the tray, and could be used alone for CP. When combined with one of the included Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Circular Polarizer Filters, which would take up another space in your Matte Box, it becomes a variable ND solution. Tiffen also includes a spare 4x5.65" Circular Polarizer as a backup.

Q: 4. Does this filter fit a Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH. Lens (Black)? Thanks, Robert

A: Yes. The Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH takes 46mm filters.

Q: 5. (re Tiffen #11 Green Filter, 43mm) What is the thread pitch for this filter? Will it fit on a Zeiss Biogon ZM 35mm F2.8? Thanks!

A: This filter works on all lenses with a 43mm filter thread size, the pitch is .75

Q: 6. Are those filters helpful or needed when using DaVinci Resolve color grading ?

A: Yes, the Tiffen 4 x 5.65" CC20G Green Filter will help you while color grading if your scene has a magenta tone and you don't want the tone in your final video.

Q: 7. Is it really 9.5 lbs? I am a little worried about the weight.

A: It is a heavy matte box, it is about a 1.5kg (3.3lbs) without the flags and hard mattes, and 15mm rod adapter. In my case I have a F55 and an Alexa so it is not over kill. The box it came in was about 12lbs. Great build.

Q: 8. What's the widest focal length lens I can use with this matte box (on both FF and S35 sensor, using both stages of filters)? Will it work with a 10mm lens on S35 and/or a 14mm on FF?

A: The answer is...it depends. You notice focal lengths are not listed for matte boxes like this. That is because it depends on the sensor, the camera, the lens and the matte box what will precisely work. That being said, we would say that this matte box should have no problem with an 18mm on Super35 and 24mm on full frame. Depending on all above conditions, wider than those lengths may be possible. However, we would tend to think that the real answer for 10mm on Super35 and/or 14mm on full frame would either be a single filter clip-on matte box or a two filter 6.6 x 6.6 matte box.

Q: 9. Does this Tray with both the filters take up only a single slot in the matte box?

A: No, The Tiffen Multi Rota Tray Variable Neutral Density Kit comes with one rotating Circular Polarizer Tray. When combined with one of the included 4x5.65" Circular Polarizer it becomes a Variable ND solution. However, the 4x5.65" Circular Polarizer would take up another space/slot in your Matte Box. A second 4x5.65" Circular Polarizer is included as a backup.

Q: 10. In the spec, it says that the shipping weight is about 9lbs, but other search on the internet says that the item weight is only about 3-4 lbs and it is the shipping weight that is 9lbs. So I just want to make sure, with the flags and everything, will this weigh 9lbs?

A: The matte box weighs between 3 and 4 lbs depending on how it is set up. The 9 pound weight is the box with everything that is included in it.

[0.46 lb] Like the odd 1-iron a golfer might bring, a 47a is not the everyday go-to of filters. That said, it emulates ortho film amazingly well, and for certain types of architectural photography, dramatically lightens, if not whitens skies while deeply defining most everything else.

For instance, ironwork like the Eiffel Tower, a Ferris wheel, or an old, complicated bridge would become a nearly abstract study in lines with a filter like this.

Or, if one wanted images evoking a late 19th Century feel, the ortho rendition would be prefect, especially with a soft focus, Lomographic, or pinhole lens. Shades of Matthew Brady!

As for the Tiffen brand, there’s really none better. Never in 40 years of film photography have I heard of quality issues, except for a one-off problem once 20 years ago. They work and cost less, yet made in the USA!

While the deep-pocketed Leica or Linhof user may sniff at them, this Mamiya RB photographeur, merely exclaims, “Tsk!”, or even, “Tchah!”, and continues merrily. Buy with great confidence!

[0.46 lb] Despite this being a digital-capture world (and yes, I am a part of it), I shot film for a few decades and still enjoy using it on occasion. Tiffen's deep yellow #15 filter makes virtually all black and white pictures look better than anything.

[0.46 lb] Bought this for my daughter for her B&W photography college couarse. It gives amazing, balanced contrast without being too stark. Fits right between the lighter K2 yellow and the more pronounced contrast of the orange filters. Tiffen glass and construction seems to be of good quality. Priced lower than other brands. Put this on your film SLR lens instead of the protective UV glass and leave it there.

[0.46 lb] Really nice dark tone ; cuts the green and red really well and amplifies blue tones on b&w film. Perfect filter for RGB processing (with the green #58 and the red #25). The rigid plastic case that comes with it is also pretty useful.

[0.46 lb] I had been using a set of bare 3 gels for in-camera RGB tricolor separation negatives. Over several decades the 61 green had faded significantly - almost a full f-stop. The new Tiffen RGB set - 29-R, 61-G, 47B-B - are well made and the color of the green 61 is much deeper and bluer than the old one which looks yellow green now. I have been using Tiffen filters since I was a combat photographer in Vietnam. I like them because they are accurate color ... more accurate than dyed glass filters because they use Kodak Wratten gels sandwiched between glass. They are also more reasonably priced than many filters and do not scratch as easily as plastic filters. Tiffen has a very complete offering of filter colors, sizes and types and after these many years I consider them a well trusted filter manufacturer. B&H Photo is also a well trusted supplier....
