The Radius RAD-1 Microphone Shockmount XLR Cable Dark Editionis a microphone shockmount suitable primarily for indoor booming or outdoors with no winds, when using the mic by itself or with only a foam windscreen. Designed to hold short shotgun and small-diaphragm pencil microphones (19-25mm in diameter, up to 150mm in length), this suspension provides exceptional isolation from movement, handling noise, and other vibrations associated with booming.

The RAD-1 (Dark Edition) features two soft-coated universal mic clips (dark gray). To achieve the best isolation for your style of booming, two pairs of interchangeable RAD-1 hoops are included: standard firmness (black) and soft firmness (dark gray). The base of the shockmount comes with a 360° rotatable XLR holder to further isolate the mic from cable noise. Also included is a low-profile, 3-pin XLR jumper cable. There is a 3/8"-16 thread at the bottom to mount the RAD-1 on boompoles, stands, or with quick-connect attachments.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Where is the XLR cable?

A: XLR cables are a required but not included accessory for this microphone. We list several cabling options under the ACCESSORIES tab for this microphone.

Q: 2. Is the xlr to mini cord compatible with a 3.5mm jack? Like, could I just just use that cord and connect it straight to my camera through the microphone jack?

A: Yes that's what that cable is for. Mini is just another name for 3.5mm.

Q: 3. So with my black magic camera as long as i have the battery in the mic i won't need phantom power correct?

A: Yes, this is correct. It will run out quite quickly. Between 4-6 hours.

Q: 4. How long is the mic?

A: The mic is 11 inches

Q: 5. Will this work well for picking up actors' lines for a live theatre event?

A: The Rode NTG2 Shotgun Microphone is highly directional, meaning it will pick up what it is pointed at in a range of 2-3 feet, but not much else. Unless the actors are stationary or there is an operator that will move this mic along with the actors as they move, I would not recommend using the NTG2 for this purpose.

Q: 6. Does the NTG-2 have a db pad? Like a -10db switch?

A: No, the RODE NTG2 Shotgun Microphone does not have a -10 dB pad, but it does have a switchable high-pass filter set at 80 Hz which can be used to remove low frequency noise that is not part of your intended source.

Q: 7. Does anyone know the shipping weight of the kit?

A: The shipping weight for this kit is approximately 1.10 lb.

Q: 8. Which pair of RAD hoops come with this shock mount?

A: (2) pairs of interchangeable RAD-1 hoops are included with the Radius RAD-2 Shock Mount (Dark Edition): standard firmness (black) and soft firmness (dark gray)

Q: 9. what is the difference between this and the rde videomic pro

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro is designed as a compact camera mountable solution. Generally used with DSLR or smaller camcorders. Both offer great sound quality, however since directionality of the pickup is related to the length of the mic tube, the NTG-2 offers a more narrow pickup and more effective at rejecting surrounding ambience.

Q: 10. Is it compatible with DSLR cameras?

A: Not exactly. The cable attached to the mic is XLR and that is typically run into a separate recorder such as a Zoom H4n or similar. I think you could get an XLR to headphone jack adapter to plug into a DSLR if you can choose the mic input on your camera to accept audio. It's recommended to attach this mic to a separate audio recorder and sync the footage and audio in post. This is a very good mic.

[7.2 x 5 x 3.2"] Super helpful, love the mic, after doing a ton of research I know the NTG3 is a higher quality sound but for this budget range, the NTG4 seems to be the best.

[0.605 lb] Was thinking of going with the NTG2 but given how for just a bit more this has none of that background hiss, made this a sensible pick. Sounds great!

[7.2 x 5 x 3.2"] They aren't kidding about the 150-hour battery: the mic was still on the day after I wrapped a 10 hour shoot. It makes a huge difference to not run phantom power on your mixer. For the price it makes great recordings, just remember that any mic is only as good as the person operating it.

[7.2 x 5 x 3.2"] The pristine build quality and attention to detail must be mentioned for this mic. 'the feel' in your hand is reassuring. On the sound front the high tones if anything are slightly rolled off but with a high boost function get extremely sharp. I've found that keeping the high boost off is preferable with interviews. The built in lithium ion battery is fantastic as you only have to carry around a USB cable which you already have with you and can charge from your laptop/iphone charger etc... Tops remarks for this Australian microphone.

[7.2 x 5 x 3.2"] I chose this mic from its reputation and I’ve been well please so far. My other shotgun mic lets more side sound thru, which only came apparent once I started using the ntg4. The customer service was awesome too. That always puts you at ease, knowing what to expect. I’ll review more in detail after a couple months of usage, I love it so far!

[0.605 lb] This microphone is pretty amazing. I do a lot of documentary work and it works perfectly for capturing crisp audio, even outdoors! I chose this mic instead of lavs because it's more versatile in my opinion, and the audio is just as clear.
