The Shure QLXD2/N8C is a digital handheld wireless microphone transmitter compatible with QLX-D receivers. It comes equipped with a Nexadyne 8/C dynamic cardioid capsule featuring an innovative Revonic dual-transducer design that uses two separate, but interdependent sets of diaphragms, voice coils, and magnets. This unique technology gives this dynamic mic a condenser-like clarity with a crisp, yet natural high-end and plenty of detail—allowing vocalists to worry less about mic technique and instead focus on delivering powerful performances. The cardioid polar pattern reduces off-axis pick up, for less bleed from other sources and fewer feedback issues.

This version of the QLXD2/N8C operates in the G50: 470 to 534 MHz band of the of the UHF spectrum, providing a wide 64 MHz tuning range with 2560 selectable frequencies available to secure a clear transmission channel. It operates for up to 9 hours on two AA batteries, with a transmission range up to 330' and a selectable 1/10mW RF power output.

With a rugged, yet lightweight aluminum housing, the QLXD2/N8C transmitter delivers pristine audio quality and RF performance as well as AES 256-bit encryption for secure transmission and advanced rechargeability options. It is well suited for sound reinforcement applications in medium-sized venues and houses of worship as well as A/V installations in conference, educational, and corporate facilities.

  • Shure's Nexadyne Revonic system is an innovative dynamic microphone design that uses two matched dynamic transducers, working in conjunction, to provide more opportunity for both greater sound quality and the rejection of unwanted signal.
  • Wiring the transducers out-of-phase cancels mechanical vibration, so self-noise is actively zeroed out. This makes traditional pneumatic shockmounts unnecessary, and allows the transducers to be optimized for acoustic performance.
  • Vocal performers will experience natural and vivid clarity when performing—enabled by a cartridge design that optimizes signal output acoustically, producing more of the desired sound source and less environmental and handling noise.
  • Engineers will receive stronger and clearer output, resulting in fewer EQ corrections that are often necessary with other mics to retain vocal clarity within the mix.
  • The cardioid polar pattern provides focused, yet forgiving, audio capture centered on the performer in front of the mic—reducing bleed from other sources and stage monitors for clearer sound.
  • The interchangeable capsule design allows you to replace the Nexadyne 8/C capsule with a Shure capsule that’s ideal for your application and simply screw it onto the transmitter—including the Nexadyne 8/S (supercardioid), KSM8, KSM9, SM58, Beta 58A, Beta 87A, and Beta 87C capsules.

  • The QLXD2 transmitter delivers clear, reliable 24-bit/48 kHz digital audio and quickly syncs with a wireless receiver via infrared at the touch of a button.
  • The adjustable input sensitivity on the transmitter accommodates mic levels ranging from booming voices to quiet speech.
  • Frequency and power lockout functions prevent accidental or unauthorized changes during events.
  • A backlit LCD with easy-to-navigate menu and controls lets you quickly access frequency, group, and channel settings, along with mute and lock status, and RF output.
  • 1/10mW selectable RF output power allows you to increase either the transmitter's range or the number of mics operating simultaneously.

  • Operates for up to 9 hours on two AA batteries.
  • Optional Shure SB900A lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack offers intelligent power management with over 10 hours of battery life, precision metering in hours and minutes, and zero memory effect.
  • External charging contacts allow for docked battery charging with the SBC200 dual-docking charger (available separately).
  • The networkable SBC220 charger (available separately) allows for remote power monitoring via Shure’s Wireless Workbench software.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I plug the Azden SMX-30 into one of the Comica transmitters to act as an off camera boom?

A: Yes, you can connect the Azden SMX-30 to a Comica transmitter and use it off camera.

Q: 2. I have a G4 Receiver with 558-626MHz. Can I use the GW1 Transmitter with 558-608MHz?

A: Yes, you can use your G4 receiver with the Sennheiser SKP 500 G4 Pro Wireless Plug-On Transmitter GW1: (558 to 608 MHz) but you will be limited in the frequency channels that you can use to sync the transmitter and receiver. It is always recommended to use a transmitter and receiver in the same frequency band, for the most available frequency channels and best results.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with the URX-P03D (stereo) receiver?

A: Yes,as lomg as both are in the same frequency bank and tuned to the same frequency.

Q: 4. Can the 48v Phantom Power be switched off if not needed?

A: Yes, the 48v phantom power can be turned off for dynamic microphones.

Q: 5. Could I connect 2 of these (in the same frequency bank) to the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver?

A: Yes, dual Sony UTX-M40 Wireless Handheld Cardioid Microphone Transmitters can be used with the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver simultaneously if all components are on the same frequency band.

Q: 6. Can I use with MKH 70?

A: Hello Mikhail - the SKP 500 is capable of providing the 48V Phantom Power required by the MKH 70; please note that the SKP 500 is a transmitter only and you'll need to pair it with a receiver (i.e. EK 500 G4) or purchase a system (i.e. EW 500 BOOM G4) to ensure you have all the appropriate products for a successful shoot.

Q: 7. Will this work with the Senheiser AVX Wireless system? I want to plug this into an MKH416 and record boom audio wirelessly into camera.

A: No, the Sennheiser SKP 500 G4 Pro Wireless Plug-On Transmitter is not compatible for use with the AVX system. The G4 series is a UHF system (this particular transmitter operates on the 470 to 558 MHz band) while the AVX series is a digital system that operates at 1.9 GHz. Sennheiser does not offer a plug-on transmitter for AVX. The G4 series system is a better option if you need to use a plug-on transmitter that can supply phantom power for your MKH416. The SKP 500 transmitter is available separately or as a complete system with the EK 500 transmitter -- Sennheiser EW 500 BOOM G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Plug-On Microphone System with No Mic - AW+: 470 to 558 MHz (B&H # SEEW500BG4AW).

Q: 8. Hi, I would like to wirelessly place a boom with With 48V Phantom Power to a 100 G3. The 100 G3 does not support 48V Phantom Power. There would be no problem receiving the signal with the boom from the SKP 500 G4 Pro to the 100 G3. in the camera?

A: Although hard to confirm without actually testing, it can be theorized that the Sennheiser SKP 500 G4 Pro Wireless Plug-On Transmitter AW+: (470 to 558 MHz) will properly send signal to a Sennheiser EK 100 G3 Receiver, assuming both units are set to the same frequency.

Q: 9. Can this mic be used with the UWP-D11 receivers? And more specifically, can they sync channels with the IR feature found on the side of the UWP D11 receiver pack?

A: Yes, this mic can be used with a receiver from the UWP-D11 system. There is an IR sensor on the bottom of the mic to allow for IR syncing. Please note, the transmitter frequency range must match that of the receiver.

Q: 10. I'm getting a SYNC ERROR when attempting to sync this (UTX-M40) to the URX-P41D receiver. Can't find any info online. Any advice?

A: You can find instructions on how to sync the Sony UTX-M40 Wireless Handheld Cardioid Microphone Transmitter and the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver in the user manual. The information for "Operation" that begins on page 23 should be helpful. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/833188.pdf

[Aluminum] I purchased this product recently for group activities, so it is the beauty in your hand in terms of a clean, crispy, high-quality sound without getting into trouble with wires. What I liked a lot about this wireless system is that there is no latency when talking, and it also has excellent range when receiving the signals, giving freedom to move when talking.

[Handheld] Thank you B&H for your products, and discounts on items, this digital system is very helpful when one travels from place to place that is city to city and in different types of buildings, this system allows you to use the best available frequencies because it can very easily search out available frequencies to be used and it really cuts down on the set up time, it also is great for linking many transmitters for multiple users like in traveling singing groups. Again thank you for you discounts which allows less well known travelers to be able to obtain great professional equipment at lower cost which is a real benefit to us

[Digital UHF ] My occupation is to record live musical events, and of late, mostly live-streamed. I've used several brands and models of wireless microphones over the years, but purchased the Sony URX Dual Channel receiver kit for the ease at which it can be used with a variety of Sony cameras, including the A7 models and FS5 cinematic camera. A digital connection, without wires, is something to rejoice. I bought the UTX-M40 microphone almost as an afterthought, to accommodate vocal and narrative elements for salon concerts. It was easy to set up and works perfectly. I have used plug-on transmitters before, but the dedicated wireless mic is lighter and more compact, which makes it more comfortable for the talent to use.

[Handheld] I bought this mic specifically to handle Q&A sessions in a corporate A/V setting. It does such a great job rejecting feedback when a user stands more than a foot away from the mic. You can really hear the rich fullness of the human voice even at a great distance away. This mic paired up with proper compression on the input channel gives the mix engineer much to work with. B&H order process and shipping are the best too.

[1.495 lb] Gotta love wireless that sounds "wired". Shure's ULX/QLX continues their long-standing performance even in digital guise. With networking, RF analytics, and dead simple setups (e.g. transmitter/receiver sync button), these units deserve their place in the rack.
