Visually and sonically precise, the matte black Earthworks ETHOS B is a broadcast condenser microphone built to impart a competitive, detailed quality to your voice for podcasts, narration, audiobooks, and more, helping it stand out in a world of speech-centric content. Like many mics that made Earthworks a big name, the ETHOS B utilizes a small-diaphragm condenser capsule, which allows it to deliver nuanced and accurate vocal recordings with extended highs.

While it is common for broadcast mics to have cardioid polar patterns, the ETHOS B features a supercardioid response, enabling more focused capture of your voice with less background noise. The combination of low-noise circuitry and high SPL handling make it a strong performer, even in today's demanding production standards. Whether hung from a boom arm or affixed to a mic stand, the supplied mount from Triad-Orbit lets you get optimal and stable mic placement without trouble.

This microphone is part of the B&H Virtual Mic Locker, an online tool to help our valued customers determine the sonic differences between popular microphones for podcasting and voice over work. Each microphone was recorded using a Grace Design M103 preamp into a Presonus Quantum 2626 interface.

Q: 10. Can the EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus be used with a Canon 430EX II Speedlite as a slave?

A: You can but you need the EL-Skyport receiver. https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1247560-REG/elinchrom_el19369_el_skyport_receiver_plus.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1247560-REG/elinchrom_el19369_el_skyport_receiver_plus.html/aNot 100% sure the setup makes sense though as the Elinchrom flashes are MUCH more powerful...

[Black] I love my sr314 except for the plosives rejection. This adapter foam windscreen works great. the foam is a bit longer than I expected so I bought the extra form and made it a bit shorter. Now I can alternate between the two of them for the different voices and no plosives!!

[Black] This microphone sounds better than the sm7b in my opinion. It is more of a natural sound compared to the sm7b. I highly recommend it!

[Mono] I bought two of the Icon Pro mics when they first came out. I already owned an Earthworks SR314 which was my first Earthworks mic. It made a believer out of me. The build quality on the Icon Pro is consistent with every other Earthworks mic. Built like a tank out of milled stainless steel. Seems indestructible. But the quality of the audio is what will sell you on this mic. Stunningly accurate. You'll never sound better. I've used the SM7B for years along with other mics. This is the best sounding mic for voice work I've ever heard. I record into a Sound Devices MixPre-6 which has super quiet preamps. Perfect pairing. If you are looking for a broadcast, podcast, streaming or voiceover mic and $499 is in your budget range, don't think twice.

[Black] I had my reservations at first but when comparing directly with my SM7B (Now returned SM7B) I was blown away by this microphone. Not only does it look surgical it sounds clear, analytical, and bass rich. Nothing is overpowering with this mic. It is a very honest to life and presence heavy microphone. I can't recommend trying it enough! With B&H's 30 day return policy giving this mic a fair shot is nothing but a win! You will love it, I love it, I will not be returning it, and with it's CNC milled stainless steel body it will last me a life time! Thanks B&H for making this fantastic product available for the consumer.

[Mono] This microphone is expensive but it sounds SO GOOD. It's like an RE20 and SM7B merged together with the sweetness of the RE20 but low end of the 7B in a perfect balance. It makes my voice sound great and does me a lot of favors. The build quality is outstanding and it feels super robust. The only minor complaint I have is that the pop filter/foam can fall off kind of easily so if you use this as a guest mic they may tug on it the wrong way and pull it off by accident if it's on a boom arm.

If you're looking for a super clean, unique sound this is the Mic for you. It's also very easy to drive with about 25db of gain needed for a healthy signal.

[Solid-State] This is a broadcast-style microphone (front address), but it is NOT a dynamic mic. It is actually a small-diaphragm condenser microphone with a BIG sound. You get the absolute clarity and detail you'd expect from a small-diaphragm, but if you run it through a tube-based preamp (UA-610B for example), you also get a warm and full sound.

To my ears, the clarity and detail are far superior to the SM7B or the RE20, and depending on your preamp, you can obtain that darker, rich sound of the SM7B (great for podcasting) or you can achieve sonic clarity (great for voiceovers).

I personally run mine through a Cranborne EC1 preamp into the PreSonus Quantum 2626 interface and into the Studio One 5 Professional DAW. The EC1 can provide total sonic clarity or add a bit of mojo depending on your taste and needs.

The only downside of this mic is that if you're looking for background noise rejection, you'd be better off with a dynamic mic (SM7B, RE20, etc.). This is a condenser mic and it shows in its sensitivity.

If you have decent acoustic control over your space, I highly recommend the ETHOS for broadcast, podcasts, streaming, and voiceovers.

[3.05 lb] TL;DR - This mic is incredible. The sound is super crisp and clear, and even though it's not a dynamic mic, it does a great job of eliminating background noise. Bottom line - buy it if you need a great sounding mic!

Long story - I create YouTube videos about cars and riding our Yamaha WaveRunner personal watercraft. I try to record my voice live to save time while editing, but sometimes I just have to do voices overs at home.

I used to use a video-style mic going into my iPhone, and it sounded okay, but I wanted the sound to be great. After reading and watching lots of YouTube reviews, I knew the Earthworks Ethos was the one.

I purchased a PreSonus Studio 24c and the Ethos and love that I don't need a signal booster to get quality sound...and believe me, the sound is quality - once I figured out how to speak properly.

I have never used a mic that was so sensitive (in a good way), but it picked up the slightest noise I made while talking. Once I figured out how to not make clicks and other noises with my mouth, I absolutely fell in love with this mic. I didn't even realize I was doing until I listed to my first recordings.

I have a very minor EQ setting in the higher frequency that I use, but other than that, I just record my voice into the built in Voice Memo app in the Mac and import it into DaVinci Resolve Studio.

I used to record into Logic Pro, and that audio came out better, but the process is more time consuming. I often make a lot of short voice overs, so the Voice Memo app works good enough. If I needed to record something with the highest quality, I'd do it in Logic Pro.

Overall, I love this mic and really can't say enough about it.

[End Address] I was a little skeptical before I bought it. Once I bought this mic, I realized its so good and easy to EQ that all other mics are way behind in the queue. So smooth and warm, doesnt suffer with the deficiencies of a Dynamic microphone, so easy to drive and excellent to EQ.

[Solid-State] I'm a voice artist and record loads of long form projects (Audiobooks, articles, eLearning, etc.), and this mic works just brilliantly for that use case. It responds incredibly well to EQ, which I apply to brighten the top end frequencies a bit, and with that on the recordings the mic sounds just as good if not better than my Neumann and MKH-416 on certain jobs and auditions. I would even say that it might be the most like me a mic has sounded in my studio.

Not to mention it's a beautiful mic to have in front of your face for hours at a time.

[Black] At the new price point, this is one of the best broadcast/vo mics in my arsenal, hands down. Crisp, focused, and more portable than an SM7B (or another new favorite of mine, the BP40), the Ethos is a fantastic mic. Avoid the Icon, hoard the Ethos.

However your voice sounds, the ETHOS B is designed to faithfully capture it. You can be sure that the tone of your podcast, narration, commentary, or audiobook will be unmistakably you.

The ETHOS B utilizes a small-diaphragm condenser capsule to ensure accuracy and revealing detail across its tonal spectrum.

With a frequency range of 20 Hz to 30 kHz, the ETHOS B enables every element of your voice to be recorded clearly, with no loss of highs or lows.

A supercardioid polar pattern allows the ETHOS B to pick up primarily what's in front of it (your voice) while rejecting much of the off-axis room reflections and background noise.

  • 0.6" small-diaphragm condenser capsule
  • Ultrafast 11.67 microsecond rise time
  • Supercardioid polar pattern
  • 20 Hz to 30 kHz frequency range
  • 145 dB maximum SPL
  • 16 dBA self-noise
  • XLR 3-pin output connector
  • Requires 24 to 48 VDC phantom power

By reducing noise from breaths and wind, the supplied foam windscreen helps you achieve clean vocal recordings.

Included with the ETHOS B is a Triad-Orbit M2-R mount, a sturdy and versatile accessory that makes it easy to get the perfect mic placement with a boom arm or mic stand (available separately).

Q: 1. Is this compatible with a Sekonic Litemaster Pro L-478DR using its own Pocketwizard transmitter? If not, can Pocketwizard receivers be connected to them to work?

A: If you are referring to the Sekonic LiteMaster Pro L-478DR-U-EL Series Light Meter for Elinchrom EL Skyport System, B&H # SEL478DRELU, then it would be fully compatible for use with the Elinchrom D-Lite RX 4/4 Softbox To Go Kit as packaged. If you instead own the Sekonic LiteMaster Pro L-478DR-U Light Meter for PocketWizard System, B&H # SEL478DRU, it would not be directly compatible for use with the Elinchrom D-Lite RX 4/4 Softbox To Go Kit. However, you may use the Sekonic LiteMaster Pro L-478DR-U Light Meter for PocketWizard System with the light kit by connecting the included Elinchrom EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus (B&H # ELSTP) to the synchro terminal on the bottom of the light meter with the Metz 36-50 Standard Sync Cord, B&H # ME5548. When you press the MEASURE button on the meter, it will trigger the transmitter connected via the cable and trigger your lights. If If you are using PocketWizard remotes with the Sekonic LiteMaster Pro L-478DR-U Light Meter for PocketWizard System and the light kit, the light meter will communicate directly with the PocketWizard remotes. However, you will have to connect the PocketWizard remotes to the Elinchrom monolight strobes via the 1/8 (3.5mm) sync terminal on the rear of the monolights via the PC sync cables included with the PocketWizard remotes. The PocketWizard remotes are not directly compatible with the Elinchrom Skyport receivers built into the light fixture, so they have to be connected via the sync cable. If you do not have a sync cable, the PocketWizard PC1N Locking PC Sync Cable (1'), B&H # WIPC1NPC, would work for your usage needs.

Q: 2. Has anybody seen a lit of the various flash durations for these? I know they report 1/800th at full power, but what are the flash durations at, say, 1/2, or 1/16th? I can't find anything like this listed anywhere. I'm considering the new HS transmitter, and these durations are going to be important.

A: Hi,There is no published flash duration data for lower settings. Generally, theFastest flash duration is always at full flash power for our units, and it gets slower when you decrease flash power. The reason is that by reducing the flash power you also decrease the capacitor voltage and lower voltage will give a longer, slower flash duration. This rule does not apply for ELC units as they are using a different technology.A global rule at minimum power the flash duration will be around 40% slower.I hope this helps.Regards,Will HBrand Manager Lighting, MAC Group US

Q: 3. Can power output be controlled from the iPhone app?

A: Yes, but you need the portable wireless transmitter EL-Skyport WiFi, then select the it on your iPhone's wifi settings

Q: 9. Good day,I got a Celestron NexStar Evolution 9.25 last week and from the reading it seems that it would benefit greatly from better eyepieces than the supplied stock ones. The telescope has Focal Length 2350 mm and Focal Ratio 10.I'm reading good things about the TeleVue Ethos.I was thinking about getting the Ethos 21mm. Would that be a good choice for my telescope? Also the Ethos SX 4.7mm, but maybe it would be too much power for my telescope? The supplied stock 13mm seems quite shaky as it is, using it from my apartment balcony. For the Ethos 21mm I would need 2 diagonal. Would TeleVue 2 Everbrite Diagonal - Satin be a good choice? Would it fit my telescope?Or maybe the Meade Series 5000 Dielectric Diagonal (2 ) as it seems to be supplied with Schmidt-Cassegrain to 2 adapter?Would there be a big difference between these two diagonals in the picture quality or not really on my telescope? What is the advantage of getting Ethos 21mm and Ethos 10mm versus Ethos 21mm and a 2x Barlow?Any advise/recommendations would be appreciated.Thanks.Regards,Andrej

A: I would personally go with the 21mm Ethos model. The 4.7mm will be overkill I think. You could still use it, but you would notice some shake for sure. I would go wit
