Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How would I set this with the Cheetah-Speed-Pro-Bracket-MKI? What would I need? to mount it?

A: Totally agree with other answer. I would not recommend using a speed light with this. Invest in a strobe that has 360 light direction such as Profoto or Einstein.

Q: 2. Does this come with a carrying case to protect it for travel?

A: i'm sorry, no, it does not come with a case.

Q: 3. I found a Setti cheap (Dish, Profoto Speedring, and Diffusion Sock). So I'll still need a grid, and the Opal Diffuser. But just wondering... This one seems to have kind of a "creamy" white finish. I imagine it will produce a warmer color temp. Is that normal for a Setti or has this been painted/modified/refurbished? And also, 20 or 40 degree grid? And White, or Black?

A: Back in January I purchased the entire line of Mola soft lights. I would have to say that the Demi and Setti are two favorites. First its hard to know about the interior color of the dish being it could be just old and age discolored or just stored badly between uses. If it turns out to be a bit too warm for your liking I think I would opt for a CC gel to knock it back some. With regard to grids? I prefer the black 20,.....while some say the white gives a nice soft edge which I think is contrary to using a grid to start with.....it also knocks back the contrast which I don't like one bit. {looks odd to me} Also, don't lose any sleep over the Opal diffuser disc. I have several and have yet to use them on any of my dishes. I like them with the perforated disc alone. I think once you get set up with this dish you'll love it as much as all Mola users do. They have a completely unique look and feel to them. Oh, and a tip for storage? Put them back in their plastic shipping bag and store on their face, not on their sides.

Q: 4. I own an elinchrom Deep Octa 100cm And Im thinking a lot about buying this Setti for my fashion work which often involves full length shots. What kind of distance is required for good full length coverage when using this and does a second strobe lower down need to be used to get the legs exposed properly? Also how do you think it compares to the deep octa will I see a major d8fference?

A: Ferhan: The difference between the deep Octa and the Setti white interior are as follows. The Octa is 39 in and the Setti is 28 in, so it is 30% smaller. The Octa however is quite different in that the Octa is 26 inches deep and the Setti is 13 in deep. The Octa is much deeper and therefore has less coverage than the Setti at the same distance. The Setti's white interior will give greater spread as the Octa is a bright silver making it more directional. The light quality from these sources is very different. The Setti is contrasty, but the Octa is more so. The Setti will give you a warmer quality of light whereas the Octa will be much cooler in colour temperature(silver vs white). Shooting distance with the Setti for F/L would be 7-8 feet. This will depend on how even or flat you like your light. You may want to add a light below or something broad behind to act as fill. These are all personal preferences is lighting style. I think the Setti has great contrast with a really nice fall off. But as I've said they are very different in light quality. I hope this helps!

Q: 5. I need a mounting ring for the Mola 22inch demi that works with the Cheetah speed pro s bracket?

A: You may use the Mola Speed Ring for Bowens, B&H # MOSRBQ to attach the Cheetah Speed Pro S Bracket to this Mola beauty dish. Please see the image below for reference:

Q: 6. Hi,i'm looking or a 20 Grid for a Mola Demi 22 .The ones Mola produce are a little wobbly.Any alternatives?Thanks

A: look at honey grids

Q: 7. What are the exact dimensions of the Mola Rayo?

A: 16 in Diameter13 in height

Q: 8. I am currently using Setti with opal defusion. I am now considering adding White Rayo, how does it feel with opal defusion?

A: The Mola Rayo Reflector (16") BH #MORW160 will have a longer more directional throw of light.

Q: 9. Mola setti How much weight?

A: Are you asking how much the dish weighs? If so, the dish when set up and out of the box is approximately 13-14 lbs. The box when shipped is just over 18 lbs.

Q: 10. Does it comes with Opal Diffusion Glass ?

A: No it doesn't come included you have to purchase the opal glass separate along with the opal glass stabilizing ring. Also you will need to purchase the speed ring attachment that works with your lighting equipment. Hope this helps. It's an awesome light diffuser!! Enjoy:)

[Polycarbonate] Mola, where have you been all my life? My soft boxes have taken a backseat to the Rayo, the Demi and the Setti. And I must admit, I love the thunking sound it makes :)

[Polycarbonate] This grid helps control the spread of light when the 133 is used in the focused position. Because the surface of the Para is somewhat diffuse, the grid helps to control the spread. It's a subtle difference but noticeable when trying maintain the emphasis on the main subject. The light characteristics on the subject in the focused position with and without the grid is much the same - but the spread to the background and other areas is reduced with the grid. The grid required about an additional four tenths of a stop of light. Useful if you require precision lighting when shooting fully focused.

[Polycarbonate] I'll admit it, I walked right into this. Literally. The grid material pushed inwards through the metal frame, and I was worried that a very expensive modifier was now ruined. However, I was able to carefully re-insert the grid material to the frame, and it's as good as new. This is a resilient grid. I hope to never experience that again, but it's very nice to know that a minor mishap won't be a costly mistake.

[Polycarbonate] I haven't fully tested this grid. I'd say it's lightweight and fits snugly on my Mola Demo. I used a Fotodiox version and it's heavier. I can't tell if light quality is different with that.

[Polycarbonate] Purchased through a local seller a few years ago, still haven't seen much traction on this dish. I made my purchase blindly, but you don't have to. It's a strong contrast light with a 60 degree fall off. There's a new one they're releasing that's 50 degrees and a smaller mouth. Interesting thing about this reflector is how much pop a photo has, yet there's a pleasing softness to it thanks to the metal mesh in the dish. There's some talk on how this is like a profoto magnum. Kind of. It's more Telezoom and Magnum had a lovechild. Long throw with an extra stop of light. I have to crank my acuteb pack down to use it. Every time you pop one off, *DUNK....DUNK....DUNK* It's weird but satisfying. There's a video floating around by The Breed of this thing in action against a beauty dish. Had much better transitions and fall off. It's a satisfying pop that isn't too strong. Single light setup for this. If you have lower power packs, it's worth the extra light you get. Had it on an AB800, best photos were shot on this thing. It's a tall dish though. The carrying bag is pricy. Not exactly easy to travel with. Use with an boom to make your life easier. What I am saying is, it's not a hard light you'd expect Mola to make, but it's got a hard-soft quality. Worthwhile purchase.

[Polycarbonate] Grids are essential kit for almost all modifiers...

[Polycarbonate] Mola stuff is very solid. A level above most metal modifiers on tensil strength. This one is close to needing the extra support of the brace that the Setti has. When you put a monoblock on it it is pretty heavy. Really needs a case to keep it nice if your going to travel with it.
