Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this tripod compatible with Wimberley WH-200 gimbal head and RRS BH-55 ball head?

A: The Benro Mammoth Carbon Fiber Tripod is compatible with the Wimberley WH200 and RRS BH-55 heads.

Q: 2. is there a bubble of the leveling base ?

A: The Benro Tortoise Column less #3 Carbon Fiber Tripod does not have a bubble level on its leveling base. This feature is typically provided on a compatible quick release system or tripod head.

Q: 3. How heavy can the camera or gimbal be? Whats the loading capacity?

A: Tilta recommends staying under 20 pounds when using the Mini Table Top Tripod.

Q: 4. are the leg lock positions spring loaded ?

A: The leg locks on the Benro Mammoth Carbon Fiber Tripod are not spring-loaded.

Q: 5. Will the Manfrotto MVH500AH Fluid Video Head with Flat Base simply screw into the flat half bowl?

A: Yes it will. The Manfrotto MVH500AH Fluid Video Head with Flat Base has a 3/8"-16 thread which will connect to the platform on the Benro Mammoth 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod.

Q: 6. What is the actual load capacity of this tripod - the description has different numbers - 33 pounds and 50 pounds - which is correct?

A: Benro Mammoth Carbon Fiber Tripod has a load capacity of 55 lbs.

Q: 7. This looks like it would be an awesome tripod for astrophotograpy as it has no center column - but would the leveler cause any stability issues?

A: The leveler on the Benro Mammoth Carbon Fiber Tripod is very stable.

Q: 8. Can the legs be easily detached for packing into a carry on bag for flights?

A: The legs of the Benro Mammoth 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod are not designed to be detached; the folded legs in the carry case would generally fit within FAA guidelines for carry-on baggage.

Q: 9. Does this tripod require a Benro GDHAD1 Geared Head Spacer to use it with a geared head?

A: Yes, the Benro Mammoth 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod does have a large base diameter of 75mm. If you are using the Benro GD3WH 3-way geared head it has a base diameter of 52mm. Since the tripod base is larger than the geared head, some knobs on the gear head may hit the tripod. The Benro GDHAD1 Tripod Spacer is a good option to use to make sure no knobs hit the tripod.

Q: 10. Are the leg locks weather sealed?

A: The Benro Mammoth 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod is made for tough weather. Benro does not list specifically at this time if the leg twists are weather sealed.

[2] This is now my 4th Benro tripod - each purchased to replace a more expensive, but much heavier, piece of kit. Each tripod has been carbon fiber and the oldest of them is now 6 (almost 7) years old. And all of them have performed flawlessly with the exception being a small design quirk of the first one I bought (which I long ago learned to adapt my practices to and Benro has long ago fixed in newer models).

This latest was purchased to support an Arca Swiss geared head that has 8x10 and 4x5 large format cameras attached. This is gear that makes an 800mm wildlife lens look like it is a featherweight.
The positives here are myriad - but ultimately the best compliment I can pay this tripod is that with 43 pounds of gear mounted on it and a camera pitched forward at a 35 degree angle over one of the legs I was able to insert and remove an 8x10 film holder without any detectable shake. That is rock solid stable. Add in the light weight, beefy build, friction locks that work flawlessly, and the smooth action of leveling the bowl prior to mounting the camera and I am thinking about picking up a second (which I can afford to do since I didn't go with one of the high end brands that really offer me nothing extra for the money any more).
The tripod comes with a very nice carry bag and interchangeable spiked feat for working on non-man made surfaces.
There are no real gripes to be found. You can read the specs to see if the height is good enough for you. I admit it was on the border for me.
No plans to buy any other tripod brand going forward. With a 9-12 year failure rate on my expensive tripods and now 6 full, flawless years out of my first 60% less-expensive Benro, they are simply making too good of a product these days to justify paying more elsewhere.

[Yes, Faceted] I own the entire lineup of Syan Bird tripods, and I just LOVE
This is the tabletop version that can hold up to 9lb.

[Yes] I have the 4 section, TMTH34C model which has a weight limit of 39.7 lbs and 75mm bowl. Everything about this tripod exudes quality and it is very stable. Without the included ball (which is all metal) and handle, it weighs only 3lbs 10oz. I have other Benro aluminum tripods that have been great, but Benro has taken a step up with the Mammoth line. The bowl, the leg locks/hardware and carbon fiber legs all have a premium look and feel. Even the included bag is upscale, they have changed to black for the bag from their traditional blue, all bag fittings are metal, it has enough space to carry both the tripod and my BV6 fluid head fully assembled. The only thing I am left wanting is a bubble level for rough leveling before adjusting the head (the BV6 has a lit bubble level).

[Carbon Fiber] I intended on getting the tortoise 34c but couldn't find it with legs only. I came across the Mammoth and couldn't be happier. Stronger and lighter than what I was looking for originally.

[Flip Lock] This tripod is a beast. It checks off all of my wants and meets all of my needs. I can’t get over the quality and features for the price. I have been using my friends Pro Media Gear 57” tripod, which I absolutely love, but when I saw this come out and with a few more inches of height and the fact that it is a bowl and even comes with a leveling center plate, I had to give it a try. Also to add, it’s one third the price. Now I get that the PMG is made in the USA and that it is truly premium grade, but after using the mammoth for just a short while, I have found myself liking it better. I’m not writing this to bash on others or steer anyone away from the PMG, I’m just saying, this thing competes with the big boys and in some regards I think it even exceeds. At this price, it could get you in the game much sooner instead of saving up for the high end gems. Who knows, you may get it with the expectation to upgrade later and end up falling in love with it. Because of the price, I was able to pair it with a RRS 55 ball head at the same time. Definitely not looking back.

[2] I have several Benro Tripods that have given me great
service over the years. I purchased this
one for my iFootage Slider specifically and it is no disappointment. The leveling base works great for my needs
and the tripod is rock solid at any angle you put it at. I placed a rubber disk pad on the top (purchased
separately) for my use to cushion slider a bit and not scrape the aluminum on
the tripod or slider. If you are looking
for a tripod that does not have a center pole this one is the Bomb Dignity!

[Carbon Fiber] The Benro Mammoth tripod is well constructed and definitely has the load carrying capacity for my 200-600 zoom lens mounted with gimble.

[Carbon Fiber] Very stable platform for long lens bird shots. Well built. A bit heavier than I thought it would be, but manageable. Love the height. So far very happy with the purchase.
