A: You can only connect powered speakers to an AVR receiver using the pre-out or zone 2 line outputs, but definitely not to the standard speaker outputs on the AVR receiver. The AVR receiver has a built-in amplifier that sends power to passive speakers through the standard speaker outputs and if you use the standard speaker outputs on the receiver, it will cause permanent damage to powered speakers since they have their own built-in amplifier and are not designed to receive power from another amplifier. A: They split about 6 from the ends - but they may easily be split farther apart by gently cutting the jackets with a razor knife. Warranty is voided by this common modification however.

A: Yes. you can use extension cables for the 1/4" TS connectors. The maximum length of the extension cables would really depend on what type of devices you will be connecting from and to. Up to 25' could be OK if you use good quality cables.
