To maximize sound quality, consistent playback, and ensure wow and flutter are extremely low, FiiO made sure to source premium cassette components and integrate them with optimized engineering. For example, they removed the typical recording and autoreverse functionality to simplify the design and improve playback quality. This movement is joined by an oversized pure copper fly wheel that's 1.2" in diameter and 0.16" thick.

Using a custom-balanced amplification head, FiiO helps the CP13 create even left/right channel performance. It uses a thickened magnetic head cover to both reduce wear on the head, but also to better shield it from any interference. A differential circuit is also used to ensure stable transmission, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and low distortion.

At 4.2V, FiiO gives their motor a higher-voltage power supply than many other players. The higher voltage works with the motor-speed stabilization circuit to deliver consistent playback and support cassette types I to IV.

A: I don't think this machine will digitize anything....unfortunately the one I got was defective and did not operate well...but I think it's probably a good machine for elementary recording...

[Red / Silver] I've been tremendously happy with the experience of not just the player but buying from B&H from start to finish. Tracking and confirmation arrived promptly and once the player got here, it worked perfectly out of the box. I've collected cassettes and had a stationary player on my dresser for a while and being able to immediately hit the ground running with something portable has been great. I'd order again in a heartbeat and have already recommended it to friends. 5

[1.18 lb] It’s heavy duty, not a cheap plastic thing. I bought it to listen to a tape a friend made for us 39 years ago, and I immediately felt like I could trust it to do the job. I’d like to find a little speaker I could plug into it for easier listening. Want to share the sentimental mix tape with our grandkids! 5

Sound Reproduction is Forgiving to Static, Almost Like a Smooth-Out to a Pair of 1970's Sony Bookshelf Speakers (Yes, Still Up & At-'Ems). Don't Cut Your Fingernails to a Bare Minimum and then Want to Open the Door Latch.. i mean its Not a Big Deal or a Game Changer, But with or Without Nails You Can Play Nine Inch Nails on Your FiiO with a Little Finesse. Very, Very Solid Build Quality is my Example. Volume Knob Doesn't Blast Out the Music or Spoken Word, Seemingly on Purpose for Protection. It's Helpful to Have External Speakers with their own Separate Knob, ala a BOSE with a RCA-3.5mm Adapter. That's It, A Very Solid Little Device! 5

[5 VDC at 2 A] Quite a bit like the old original Sony Walkman, only this seems more solidly built. I put in an old cassette, plugged in headphones and it works great! Wow/flutter not noticeable. And the price is very reasonable... back in 1981 the Sony Walkman cost over $100... so this costing $105 in 2024 is really quite a good deal! There's no noise reduction or bass boost, but that didn't seem to be a problem when I listened to a tape. And the volume control has lots of gain, setting it at a comfortable listening volume I barely had it turned up. I'm thinking of figuring out an adaptor cord to see if I can plug the headphone jack into the RCA plugs on my stereo (where I'll be able to add some equalization if needed). 5

[5 VDC at 2 A] Just amazing!! This is an exceptionally high quality cassette player, made from milled aluminum, and built to tight tolerance. Features? This is as barebones of a cassette player as you can get. No recording ability, no bass boost, no Dolby. What do you get though? Excellent battery life, USB-C charging, and GREAT audio quality. It's everything you need, and nothing you don't. How's the audio quality? FANTASTIC. As good as a real vintage Walkman that's in perfect condition, and far better than any other new portable cassette player being made today, far better than the We Are Rewind player. There's minimal motor noise, basically no WOW, and the playback speed is near perfect, no pitch shifting here! Is this really portable? It is a large tape player, as big as some of the earliest Walkman's. I'm able to use it in my back pocket without issue, but your mileage may vary. The player has no issue with playback while walking and hiking, and it works just as well sitting on your desk, as it does sideways in your pocket. It exceeds my own expectations in that regard. What's the catch? The only downsides to purchasing this over other alternatives, is how few features there are. There's no USB or Bluetooth audio, you MUST use the 3.5mm output. There's no recording ability. There's no support for Dolby noise reduction. There's no bass boost features. If you care about any of that (I personally don't!), then you're better off with a Sony WM-EX1 or WM-EX910. Nitpicks? I've already got some scratches in the aluminum case from abusing it (I am not gentle with it!), and rewinding is a bit slow. As for me? I'm in love, this is basically the perfect cassette player. 5

[5 VDC at 2 A] As the owner of a large cassette tape collection, I had begun to despair of being able to listen to them any more. The tape decks of the 1990's are so old that the belts are starting to slip on most of them. When I found the Fiio CP13, I was thrilled. This tape player has no record function, so there is no chance of accidentally erasing a tape. The case is metal, and is very sturdy. The battery is built in, a lithium ion cell that lasts for a number of plays of 90 minute tapes. The output is through a 3.5 mm stereo miniature phone jack, for either headphones or a line-in cable. This is not an auto-reverse player, and there is no 'pause' function. The reproduction quality is superb, much better than any portable I have heard before. Flutter and wow are practically non-existent, and the music is sharp and clear. For any person who has cassette tapes which they wish to enjoy for years to come, I highly recommend this player. 5
